    Red Alert!

Send us Fan Mail A highlight reel can make anyone look like a star, but it cannot show the work that turns a young scorer into a complete basketball player. We sit down with Northern Bounce guard Paxton James, also known as Red, to trace his path from casual recess hoops to a level of commitment that changes everything: leadership, conditioning, defense, and the daily choices that separate “good” from truly dependable. We talk about what it feels like to be held accountable even when you can score, and why the best teams are built when everyone buys in to the hard stuff. Paxton opens up about learning to move the ball sooner, trusting teammates as they improve, and embracing the responsibility of being a leader that others follow. We also get into the tension every high school athlete knows: balancing a social life with serious youth basketball training, and deciding whether you want to be great or just okay. Then we go deeper on development and opportunity. Paxton explains why he’s choosing senior high school basketball over junior to learn faster in a more physical, competitive role. We break down what a select team environment teaches about effort and minutes, why defensive details like hedging screens matter, and how strength and basketball conditioning are directly tied to confidence, consistent defense, and even the chase for that first clean dunk. We also touch on the reality of setbacks, including Team BC trials, and how to turn disappointment into fuel for the next season and the next level. If you care about player development, basketball mindset, and the real road to U Sports or NCAA goals, hit play, subscribe, share this with a player or parent, and leave a review so more hoopers can find it. Spring Ahead or Fall Back!

Send us Fan Mail Five championships, a couple painful finals losses, and a gym that feels louder than ever, that’s the spring and fall recap we’ve been wanting to share. We’re back after a hiatus, and we get straight into what made this stretch so meaningful: real development across age groups, teams learning how to respond to adversity, and a league championship weekend that shows exactly who has been putting in work since April. We also dig into the engine behind the results: coaching. From the girls side getting guided by seriously accomplished mentors to the boys side adding strong voices and new coaches growing into the role, we talk about why coaching quality is one of the biggest advantages a youth basketball club can offer. If you care about player development, basketball IQ, and building confident athletes in Kamloops, the Okanagan, and across British Columbia, this conversation is for you. Then we unpack the Thompson Okanagan Select team project: why we built it, what we learned at major tournaments, and how role changes can accelerate a player’s growth. We finish with what families always ask about: recruiting and the “next level” path. We share stories, expectations, and the unglamorous skills college basketball programs want most, plus what we love about our fall program and upcoming trips. If this resonates, subscribe, share the episode with a basketball parent or coach, and leave a review. What’s the biggest question you have about development or recruiting right now? Hey everyone!
