    Looking for People to Fill Spaces Only God Can

    We are in 1 Samuel 8-9 today. The Israelites want a king to judge them, lead them and fight their battles. They want to be like other nations. We do the same thing. We are looking for things and people to fill spaces only God can. When we take in who God is and His love for us, this is what really fills us. We know He is king. We are after His approval and He is our guide. Taking in so deeply Ephesians 3:17-19- And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. He is the way!

    Samuel, making God first in our lives

    We all have meals to cook, houses to clean and deadlines. But Samuel shows us, to turn to God, and make Him first. Even with the business, we can chose Him. Whatever battles we are facing, God is the one thing that is necessary. And we learn from Samuel to turn to Him with all of our hearts.

    Hannah, Praying it out and Giving our Burdens to God

    Hannah has this desire on her heart to have a baby, and it is not happening. Through her story in 1 Samuel 1, we learn what to do when we feel so low, so heart broken. What does Hannah do? She prays it out and gives it to God. It is so hard, but we can do this. It takes faith and trust in God to let go of our burdens. We learn in Psalm 55:22 and in Matthew 11:28-30 to give our struggles to God. So thankful for Hannah’s story and how we can learn from her faith.

    we need to rise up, things to take in from the Book of Ruth

    Ruth is a beautiful book in the Bible. Naomi, her mother in law, has been through so much. So much grief, but she grieves and chooses to rise up. She rises up and chooses to live. Naomi and Ruth embark on a new life, and they have a redeemer, Boaz. Jesus is our eternal redeemer. We have so much life because we have protection, a firm foundation and a new life with Him!

    Just sitting there in the Lord’s presence

    What would our lives look like if we just sat there in the Lord’s presence? When we don’t do this, so many things can take over our identity. We wander and feel lost. We don’t have to feel that way. We can seek God and be rooted in Him. We can let Him take over our lives. Then we can stand firm no matter what we face.

    My strength comes from the Lord

    Life can make us feel overwhelmed and weak. We can feel like it is all too much! Do we know where our strength comes from? Samson was dedicated to God, and knew his strength came from Him. This big man was weak without God. What a gift that we have the Lord as our strength. He gets us through! When we focus on Him and turn to Him we have strength. It isn’t from us, it’s from God.

    Trust and surrender it all to God

    We are in Judges 10, and again the Israelites are turning away from God. They are struggling, and they cry out to Him, again. In Judges 10:10-16, they have two different prayers. At first they don’t realize the power of God. Then, they do. This brings us to Jesus, and Him teaching us how to pray. His will is best! We can trust and surrender what we are going through to Him. The Israelites do this and throw away their foreign gods and serve the LORD. They do an action! We need to surrender, and then do something to change our pattern. This is how we fight our battles!

    Is prayer our last resort?

    God works through unlikely people, all through out the Bible. Gideon is one of those people. He is from the weakest tribe and is the youngest, but God chose him to lead the Israelites to defeat their oppressor. Gideon questions if God is with him and tests God. He doesn’t fully trust Him, which many of us struggle with. How things change when our trust and faith grow. Then prayer can be our first resort, and everything changes.
