    April 2026 Audio Summary AI Takes Center Stage

    In the month of April, there are several ideas that we are pushing based in some parts on the circumstances in which we find ourselves. When we started the year, there were signs that the year would be full of #turmoil. This has been the case. Even as I am sharing a piece about Dubai done by Alessandro Palombo on the benefits of choosing this as a destination for #relocation, recent events between Iran on one hand and the USA and Israel on another are further testing this idea. In the month of February we covered in brief some of the #geopolitical trends that were affecting us into the new year and how these intricacies were going to force us to rethink many often mundane ideas and plans. Win this case it was the attack on Venezuela which seems to be fueled US moves in the Middle East urged on by the Israelis. The piece about Dubai is really meant to help other countries that are not taking advantage of modern day trends like #Digital #Nomadism. The second piece that we think is important is a discussion about #ArtificialIntelligence. Here, we are interested in giving our readers a forensic look at structure of AI and where they can position themselves for a future that seems to favor the machines and those who are familiar with communication via Machine Interface. Interestingly, the digital layer of AI has been used by many countries in the Middle East as a new pivot away from oil. This digital layer is powered by massive data centers which have found a home in these middle eastern countries. An attack on these countries for collaborating with the Americans is therefore a direct attack on a promising sector. This is an area we are watching keenly. Finally in our Q and A with notable people in the technology and innovation landscape of Uganda, we share a conversation with Mawanda Lawrence Maranda of Araknerd and Lamwad Engineering Labs. Our recommended book for the month is the mom test. It is essentially a practical guide on how to talk to your customers and extract maximum value from them about the products you are building. These are probably the most important conversations you will have in the stages of growth of your company.

    Breaking Democracy’s Chain 

    This week we are thrilled to have a conversation with an author who is tackling an important subject for those of us in business. Metin Pekin is the author of a book called Breaking Democracy’s Chain.  In the book and this podcast in particular, we talk about his approach where he guides us through the history of the democratic practice in the US and the warnings that were given by the founding fathers g about challenges in the future that would affect democracy. He enlightens us on what makes parties so dangerous to the democratic movement. He shares what levers are utilized by the external forces to weaken parties. Lobby Groups, Think Tanks and the incentives used for political leaders through revolving doors. In the third chapter of the book and in or we touch on just three parts of the ideas as he has presented where he debunks the myth of party necessity. Here he talks about the efficiency illusion (the myth that parted increase efficiency), he sheds light on the illusion of choice (why the voter is really often just choosing between two of the same thing) and accountability mirage (how the inability to blame the candidate for failures related to the voter’s choice hinders vote strength). In chapter four and five the author talks about parties and violence and how these two are related. He also helps describe party machinery.     March 2026 Audio Summary Navigating a challenging quarter

    The month of March is here and it feels like it has a strong global feel. Firstly, one of the people that i subscribe to Alessandro Palombo regularly puts out some geographical content on locations of interestand i think you will enjoy this one. There are many countries that spend time setting up systems to accommodate #investors and new #citizens to help drive growth into various #sectors of their #economies. Those who follow the Middle East will therefore appreciate this piece. The author goes to great lengths to help us see the plus points that make this destination #attractive and what you can do to take advantage of this and other opportunities. Are you concerned about #taxation? Do you have #dependents? Are you a small business owner looking for the perfect conditions in which to set up your business? Is it better to set up a company or to fly solo? All these ideas are explored and presented in this useful piece. Do you have a nation that is struggling to attract top level #talent and #industry? Some of the answers you are looking for may be found in this article. Use it to compare notes with other economies and countries so that you can be a step ahead of the #competition. The advantage of this system is that you can examine systems that others have set in place and then #benchmark for better systems of your own. Perhaps the best part is that the author also tell you some of the negative parts about this location and why he makes the choice not stay there permanently. We also fit in two articles in one when we look at a future looking conversation with Jumanne Mtambalike’s predictions for the coming year in technology. Jumanne is a respected author andinfluential voice in the technology and innovation ecosystem of #Tanzania and #Zanzibar but his reach is in some ways continental with his works helping shape policy on the continent and helping technology founders in his country. I make it a habit to check in with him and what he is working on to sharpen my #intellectual ax. I have also met him briefly when we were both privileged to attend a Vitalik Buterin Sponsored event a few years ago in Eastern Africa. While scrolling, i came across an amazing piece that was looking into Norway and its history with oil and how the country has grown in leaps and bounds through #strategic #thinking, #sacrifice, #discipline and forward thinking #leadership. So many lessons to learn for those who are in young democracies and who are seeking to leapfrog standard systems and methods of operation to take their nations into a prosperous future. Finally we share a Q and A with our very own Donald Maasa co-founder of Uganda’s largest founder focused group Founders Lounge Uganda. He is a lawyer practicing at Summit Advocates and a strong pan-africanist with a pulse on the nations’ urgent needs in the technology and innovation space.

    Of Dinosaurs and Cataclysmic Events
