    No Shelter of Your Own

    I. Our Eternal Foundation (Psalm 90:1-2) The God of All Generations: God has been a "dwelling place" for His people from the beginning. The Creator’s Stability: Unlike the world, God is not shaped by the elements; He is the shaper of them. He exists "from everlasting to everlasting," which is a stark contrast to our limited perspective. II. Our Mortal Reality: The Curse (Psalm 90:3-6) From Dust to Dust: While God is everlasting, man is returning to the ground. The Perspective of Time: A thousand years is but a "watch in the night" to God. Our mortal lives are monumental to us, but a drop in the bucket of eternity. The Withered Grass: Human life is like grass that flourishes in the morning dew but is sapped of life by the evening heat. III. The Righteous Judge (Psalm 90:7-11) Mortality as Judgment: Death and frailty are presented as universal reminders of the seriousness of sin. The Exposure of Secret Sin: God sets our iniquities in the light of His presence; nothing is hidden from the Judge. The "Sigh" of Life: Even a long life (70 or 80 years) is characterized by "toil and trouble." Our best days often end in a weary sigh. The Right Response: Who truly considers the power of God's wrath and maintains a healthy fear of Him? (v.11) IV. The Gospel Connection: From Wrath to Refuge The Incarnate Adam: Jesus Christ (the eternal Word) became "dust" (flesh) to dwell among us. The Great Exchange: Jesus stood under the wrath of verse 11 so that we could dwell in the shelter of verse 1. The Present Hope: We cannot build our own "shacks" of self-reliance; Christ is our only refuge and strength in a fallen world.
