Losing Isaac - Turning Pain into Purpose

** This episode comes with a trigger warning, topics of losing a child and grief are discussed, if you are not in the right head space to listen to this, please come back to this episode at a later time.** This conversation is a must for parents who have pre-teens and teens. Sometimes in life you sit down and speak with someone who immediately becomes a friend, a person you deeply connect with because you see and feel their trauma and also understand their resilience. That’s exactly how I felt speaking with Lisa Kenevan, a mother of two beautiful children Emily and Isaac. Lisa and her family have experienced the hardest loss, losing their 13 year old son Isaac who carried out a TikTok challenge and lost his life. Lisa and I discuss the day it happened and the aftermath of such a tragic and utterly heart shattering journey. Lisa also discusses what keeps her going 3 years on and how she honours her late son with her passion to raise awareness of the dangers of social media. Lisa is an activist for online safety, dedicated to improving children's safety online. She highlights the paradox of a generation overprotected in the real world but under protected in the virtual world. She gives us practical advice to help keep our children safe online. Lisa along with other parents who have lost children due to social media are suing the likes of TikTok and campaigning to try and make the online world a safe place for our future generations. Her work is truly what is needed today and it was a privilege to hold space for her to tell her story. Ashleigh Ellerton - Before I Go

** This episode comes with a tigger warning, topics of death, cancer and end of life care are discussed** It was an honour of a lifetime to sit down with my fellow Breast Cancer Now 2024 model and friend to hear her journey of Inflammatory Breast Cancer, a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. Ashleigh was only 24 year old when she was diagnosed and had just given birth to her 4th baby five months prior. Ashleigh bravely and beautifully opens about her childhood, motherhood and the journey she's been on since her diagnosis paying homage to her wonderful husband for his unwavering support. She provides the most unique prospective on life when you are so close to death that is simply put nothing short of truly inspiring. It is advice I urge everyone to sit with and digest, because as Ashleigh highlights when the end is near there is only one thing that is important and that is 'being present’. The episode also shines a light on how women are frequently not listened to by their GPs, consultants and other health professionals and how we must advocate for yourselves to unlock access to therapies and to just be heard. Ashleigh's story is uplifting, heartbreaking and thought provoking. If you have been touched by this episode please do check out Ashleigh’s go fund me page which will provide a brighter future for her children when she’s not longer physically here in this material world: https://www.gofundme.com/f/ashleigh-and-her-children-make-memories?utm_campaign=p_cp+fundraiser-sidebar&utm_medium=copy_link_all&utm_source=customer There is also support available from charities such as Breast Cancer Now, Future Dreams, Maggies, MacMillan and Coppa Feel.
