I CARE FOR YOUR BRAIN with Dr. Sullivan

I loved episode 3. My son has been diagnosed with FND and I could relate to so much of what Lorraine discussed in terms of the feeling of the diagnosis and lack of information and guidance to seeing resemblances in symptoms my son experiences. It does feel so isolating!

I can’t imagine being in Bridie’s shoes. I was blown away by this interview. I learned a ton from Dr. Karen Sullivan and Bridie. Everyone can take something away from this interview regardless if you have never had this specific brain health challenge. It broke my heart to hear it took Bridie so long to get a correct diagnosis, but it made me realize so many people never get a correct one (I also thought of the movie Brain on Fire during the interview). I could relate to this on a personal level as well. I was misdiagnosed twice in my life and it took dozens of doctors to find the correct diagnosis. This interview was another reminder about the importance of being an advocate for yourself and your health. Meaning don’t just trust what doctors are telling you, do your research and go in to the doctor appointments prepared and ready to speak up for yourself. I t was fascinating and heartbreaking at the same time to hear Bridie’s story. I strongly encourage everyone to listen to this podcast. One thing that stood out to me was the amount of information not shared with patients such as her blood work was not ok and the one doctor she saw said it was (maybe that doctor thought it was but failed to conduct further research to dive in deeper). Thanks to what I learned, I will now obtain medical records and doctor notes. Not everyone will understand the medical terms or know what to do with this information but, Dr. Karen Sullivan goes above and beyond for her patients and combs through medical records to help provide an advanced level of care for her patients. Also, she encourages healthy lifestyle changes as well. She’s an extraordinary doctor who is dedicated and passionate about changing lives. Dr. Karen Sullivan and Bridie are passionate about changing the path for others. I wish every doctor was as empathetic and driven to make a positive impact as Dr. Sullivan. In the end of the interview, Dr. Sullivan provided important guidance to help Bridie with next steps that will help with managing her thoughts. I actually found this to be helpful for myself.

I found this podcast to be heartwarming, fascinating and educational. The interaction between the two experts speaks volumes to a healthy doctor patient relationship as it should be. It was like listening to a medical mystery show. You gained knowledge of brain operations in general and followed along as the charming Australian woman detailed how she solved her own brain mystery!! Dr Sullivan is an excellent speaker and shares the listeners eagerness to hear the whole story. Please treat yourself and listen to this podcast. You will be amazed!
