    New Pressures, New Possibilities For Men and the World They Live In with Ed Frauenheim

    Men today face new pressures at work. The long-overdue reckoning over sexism, racism and other forms of bias in recent years has heightened scrutiny on men, to the point many can feel blamed and shamed simply by being male. These recent pressures build on long-standing stresses on men, including expectations to be successful, stoic, and "self-made." Among the impacts of all the pressures are mental health challenges--which continue to carry a stigma for many men.  Yet this is also a time of new possibilities. When we examine and evolve from confined, outdated beliefs about what a man must be, we free men–and everyone around them–to thrive as never before. Men can better embrace 21st skills such as collaboration, emotional intelligence and leading with authenticity. We can choose an inclusive version of success that is about elevating those around us even as we advance ourselves. The result is healthier, happier men who are better, more inclusive colleagues and leaders.  I’m excited to have Ed Frauenheim on my show. He has devoted his life to supporting men to have new options for living. Together, we explored the effect patriarchy has had on men, in particular, and a world beyond it. As men are freed, we are all freed.

    Encore: The Power of Intentional Gratitude with Deborah Hawkins

While doing that she realized that each person has their own gratitude power buttons. These are qualities that have great meaning to you. For example, while taking Deb’s workshop, I realized that one of mine is beauty. By becoming aware that beauty is a power button, I can turn it on throughout my day. It totally shifts things for me.     A World Beyond Patriarchy with Dr. Richard Schwartz

    I am so excited to have my friend and mentor, Dick Schwartz PhD, creator of the Internal Family Systems (IFS) method, on Reality Reimagined. Together we explored societal legacy burdens, in particular, male domination, and its effect both men and women,  humanity, and the planet. How did they come to be? How to heal? And a vision of the world healed and whole. Dr. Schwartz explained how the IFS framework sees each person as having multiple internal "parts," some of which may carry burdens of trauma from societal oppression. By working with and healing these parts, we can free ourselves from the grip of internalized patriarchal conditioning. We can, then, better understand how patriarchy has caused immense harm—not only to women, who have been subjugated and marginalized, but also to men, who have been taught to suppress their emotional selves and adopt harmful ideas of masculinity. As these burdens are unburdened and healed, we can embrace more balanced and empowered ways of living.  We explored how patriarchy has maintained its dominance over time, but also a vision of the future. Using the metaphor of a bird with two wings—one male, one female—patriarchy has long kept one wing (the feminine) weak, limiting humanity's ability to "fly" to its full potential. However, in a future where both wings are strong and equal, humanity will be able to soar to new heights. This vision calls for the empowerment of all genders, allowing each person to express their full range of human potential without being confined by outdated societal structures. When both the masculine and feminine energies are honored and balanced, humanity can move beyond the traumas of patriarchy and build a more just and compassionate world where the dignity of all is honored.     Creativity: A Pathway to Transformation with Robert Dvorak

    I had the pleasure of taking a watercolor class at the coast with Robert Dvořák last month. I was struck by his simple passion for every one of us to create something beautiful in our own unique way. It didn’t matter how frustrated we got at what, in our mind, didn’t look “perfect.” He saw our potential as creative people and gently invited it to be expressed. Creativity is one of the aspects of our true Self, yet so many people have gotten disconnected from it. It is where our inner child lives, where our connection to the Divine Creator lives. How is it that we have lost that connection? Robert Dvořák is an advocate for adventure, travel and art as a gateway to reclaiming our creative self. Image is our first language. By taking time to truly see the world around us, we can make each moment precious. Beyond the selfie or phone photo, looking and drawing, however simple, we begin to stop and take in the beauty of our life experiences.     The World Is as You Dream It with John Perkins

    I met John Perkins in Ecuador on journey, with the Pachamama Alliance, into the jungles to meet with the Achuar, a dreaming tribe. They wake up each morning way before dawn to drink tea, purge and tell their dreams to each other. The messages from their dreams informs them of the actions to take that day. More than 50 years ago, John was in Peace Corps in Ecuador. He was saved from dying by an Achuar shaman. In the process of his healing, he saw how his perception of reality, or his dream of truth, was what caused him to go the brink of death. In exchange for his return to health, he became an apprentice to the shaman. Over the next years, while a chief economist for the world bank, he continued to study with shamans all over the world. His work as chief economist inspired his New York Times bestselling book, Confessions of an Economic Hit Man, a must read. Plus, numerous other books, including those on his experience as a shaman.
