    Why are we so uncomfortable talking about death, which is the completion of a soul’s cycle on Earth?  We plan, prepare for and celebrate birth, yet the time of transition back into Light is rarely spoken about, let alone for which we prepare.  In this episode, Anahata talks with Diane Cogorno, a counselor, bereavement specialist, and licensed social worker with more than 40 years’ experience; 20+ years within the hospice setting.  Together, Diane and Anahata will explore and share stories of the sacredness and beauty of end-of-life transitions, which have allowed those left behind to feel their loved one completed their journey with Grace, Ease and lasting Joy.  This includes education and awareness of the process, rituals, music, art and ceremony to celebrate a soul’s homecoming.  There are many new ways to approach this way of thinking, from home deaths to green burial; from death doulas who teach, advise and help plan, to new, more inclusive approaches to hospice care.     It's a scene from a movie...a young man gets into his car to run an errand and ends up on tribal land some 700 plus miles across two states, driving first on interstate, then state highway, then county road, then gravel road, and finally walking several miles to come upon a ceremonial building where an elder sits by the door.  As he gets closer, the man looks up and says simply, "You're late."  The young man then stays for three months studying shamanism with this elder.   This is just one of the many synchronicities my guest, Chaplain Thomas Stratman, experienced from early childhood through high school.  We're talking spirituality on this episode, but not the out-of-body kind.  This episode is about how spirituality and social activism can find a meeting point for service.   Chaplain Thomas is now a learned, wise elder himself, but his work has benefited decades of the unhoused, incarcerated or hospitalized people along his path.
