Your Heart Stores Only 10 Seconds of Energy — Why Ubiquinol Matters

Your heart beats 100,000 times a day and pumps up to 10 tons of blood — but most people never think about the energy it takes to keep it going. In this American Heart Month episode, NatureCity CEO and co-founder Carl Pradelli breaks down the critical connection between heart health and cellular energy — and explains why ubiquinol, the active form of CoQ10, may be the most overlooked supplement for long-term cardiovascular support. Subscribe to the NatureCity Podcast for weekly science-backed supplement insights. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN ✅ Why your heart needs more energy than any other organ — and what happens when it doesn't get enough ✅ The 4 ways ubiquinol supports heart and cardiovascular health ✅ Why CoQ10 levels drop by 40% between ages 20 and 40 — and keep declining ✅ The difference between ubiquinone and ubiquinol (and why the form you take matters) ✅ How the formulation used in NatureCity's TrueCoQ10 supplement showed 4.3x greater absorption in a double-blind study EPISODE SUMMARY Most conversations about heart health focus on cholesterol, blood pressure, and exercise – all very important . But your heart is also the most energy-demanding organ in your body. A single heart muscle cell contains thousands of mitochondria working around the clock to produce ATP — and your heart stores only about 10 seconds' worth at any given moment. That constant demand makes the heart uniquely dependent on efficient energy production. Ubiquinol, the active antioxidant form of CoQ10, plays a direct role in the electron transport chain that generates ATP. It also protects mitochondrial membranes from the free radicals that energy production creates as a byproduct. Unfortunately, natural CoQ10 levels peak around age 20 and decline steadily from there — dropping approximately 40% in heart cells by age 40. Carl walks through four specific ways ubiquinol supports heart health: fueling the heart's ATP production and supporting healthy ejection fraction, protecting mitochondria from oxidative stress, shielding LDL cholesterol from oxidation (which research suggests ubiquinol may do even more effectively than vitamin E), and supporting nitric oxide production for healthy blood flow and vascular flexibility. The episode also covers why the form and formulation of CoQ10 matters. Carl explains the difference between ubiquinone and ubiquinol, why conversion efficiency declines with age, and how NatureCity's TrueCoQ10 uses Kaneka Ubiquinol with an advanced delivery system that demonstrated 4.3 times greater blood plasma levels in a published double-blind study. Astaxanthin Update: Vision, Skin, Muscle Recovery & Emerging Brain Health Research

In this episode of the NatureCity Podcast, host and supplement expert Carl Pradelli welcomes back Dr. Karen Hecht, Vice President of Science at AstaReal, along with Dr. Susan Hamrahi, who leads scientific communications. Astaxanthin has long been recognized as one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants — but since Carl and Dr. Hecht’s original deep dive in Episode 9, a wave of new human research has expanded our understanding of how this unique carotenoid supports vision, skin health, muscle endurance and recovery, immune resilience, and even emerging areas of cognitive performance. In this updated conversation, the group breaks down why astaxanthin is structurally different from other antioxidants, how it uniquely protects cells without becoming pro-oxidant, and why its ability to support mitochondrial function makes it relevant for both everyday energy and athletic performance. They also explore why AstaReal® natural astaxanthin, derived from Haematococcus pluvialis algae, has become the gold standard for research-backed supplementation — with over 85 human scientific studies supporting its safety, bioavailability, and effectiveness. If you’re looking for a science-driven update on one of the most versatile nutrients in healthy aging — and want practical guidance on dosing, benefits, and who may benefit most — this episode delivers a comprehensive, evidence-based overview. WHAT YOU'LL LEARN What astaxanthin is and why it’s different from other carotenoidsWhy natural astaxanthin from algae matters vs synthetic sourcesHow astaxanthin protects cells without becoming pro-oxidantWhy astaxanthin is considered a mitochondrial nutrientHow it helps with eye fatigue, visual accommodation, and screen-related eye strainWhy astaxanthin complements lutein and zeaxanthin for vision healthHow astaxanthin supports skin hydration, elasticity, and collagen protectionWhy a scientific review ranked astaxanthin among top skin nutrientsNew findings on muscle endurance, recovery, and delayed-onset sorenessHow astaxanthin may support immune resilience during physical stressEmerging research on cognitive performance, reaction time, and moodHow much astaxanthin to take — and how to personalize dosing REFERENCES The Lopresti Study: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38892705/ The ISSN Position Stand on Antioxidants: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41701327/ SUBSCRIBE & CONNECT Don’t miss future episodes packed with supplement science and practical healthy aging insights. ✅ Subscribe to the NatureCity YouTube channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and your favorite streaming platform 💬 Comment below with your biggest takeaway from this...

Omega-3s, Brain Health, and Why Blood Levels Matter

In this episode of the NatureCity Podcast, host and supplement expert Carl Pradelli breaks down a newly published study that takes a deeper — and more impactful — look at omega-3s and brain health. Rather than relying on food questionnaires or supplement surveys, this new research measured omega-3 blood levels, offering a clearer picture of how EPA and DHA status relates to the earliest biological stages of age-related cognitive decline. The findings reinforce an idea Carl has emphasized before: when it comes to omega-3s, long-term blood levels matter far more than short-term intake. Carl revisits key insights from Episode 115 on omega-3s and brain health, then explains what makes this study different — including its focus on the Omega-3 Index as a predictor of cognitive aging risk. The research showed that individuals with an Omega-3 Index above 8% had significantly better brain aging outcomes, while most people in Western populations fall far below that range. The episode also explores why simply “taking fish oil” doesn’t guarantee results. Carl explains the importance of consistent intake, proper dosing, balanced EPA and DHA ratios, and — critically — absorption and bioavailability. He breaks down why some people see meaningful benefits from omega-3s while others don’t, and how advanced delivery systems can dramatically impact results. If you’re interested in protecting brain health decades before symptoms appear — and want practical, measurable strategies instead of guesswork — this episode offers clear guidance grounded in human research. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Why this new omega-3 study focused on blood levels, not dietary intakeHow omega-3 status relates to early biological stages of cognitive declineWhat “early onset” cognitive changes mattersWhy the Omega-3 Index is the most reliable marker of omega-3 adequacyWhat an Omega-3 Index above 8% means for long-term brain healthWhy most people never reach protective omega-3 blood levelsThe distinct roles of DHA (structure) and EPA (healthy inflammation response & blood flow) in the brainGenetics don’t determine destiny – lifestyle and nutrition matter alsoHow absorption and delivery systems impact omega-3 effectivenessHow omega-3 testing turns supplementation into a measurable strategy SUBSCRIBE & CONNECT Don’t miss future episodes packed with supplement science and practical healthy aging insights. ✅ Subscribe to the NatureCity YouTube channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and your favorite streaming platform 💬 Comment below with your biggest takeaway from this episode Explore NatureCity supplements at 👉 https://www.naturecity.com FOLLOW US Instagram: @NatureCitySupplements Facebook: NatureCity Supplements #NatureCityPodcast #Omega3 #BrainHealth #CognitiveAging #HealthyAging #Omega3Index #EPA #DHA #LongevityScience #SupplementScience #HealthSpan

New Science: Resveratrol Can Help Skin Appearance

In this episode of the NatureCity Podcast, host and supplement expert Carl Pradelli breaks down a newly published human study on resveratrol — and why its findings go beyond skin-deep benefits. Resveratrol has long been discussed for its role in healthy aging, heart health, and longevity. But this new research shifts the spotlight to something many people notice first as they age: visible changes in skin firmness, elasticity, and wrinkles. What makes this study especially noteworthy is that it didn’t use just any resveratrol — it used Veri-te® resveratrol, the fermented form found in NatureCity’s TrueResveratrol. Carl walks through exactly what the study showed, who participated, the surprisingly low dose that was used, and why this specific form of resveratrol appears to work differently than many high-dose products on the market. He also explains why improvements in skin health often reflect broader biological support — including antioxidant protection, a healthy inflammation response, mitochondrial function, and cellular repair. Beyond skin aging, the episode explores how resveratrol — particularly the low dose Veri-te® — has also been studied for bone health, cardiovascular support, metabolic function, and brain health, reinforcing its role as a foundational, multi-system aging nutrient rather than a cosmetic-only supplement. If you’re curious about resveratrol but want evidence-based guidance — not hype or mega-dose guesswork — this episode offers clarity, context, and practical takeaways grounded in human research. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Why this new resveratrol study focused on visible skin agingWho was studied and why the results are especially relevant for adults over 40The specific skin aging markers that improved in the studyWhy the study used just 150 mg per day — and why that mattersHow skin health reflects deeper cellular aging processesWhy not all resveratrol supplements are created equalHow fermented resveratrol differs from conventional sourcesThe connection between resveratrol, bone health, and agingHow resveratrol supports cardiovascular, metabolic, and brain healthWhy ingredient form and purity matter more as we age SUBSCRIBE & CONNECT Don’t miss future episodes packed with supplement science and practical healthy aging insights. ✅ Subscribe to the NatureCity YouTube channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and your favorite streaming platform 💬 Comment below with your biggest takeaway from this episode Explore NatureCity supplements at 👉 https://www.naturecity.com FOLLOW US Instagram: @NatureCitySupplements Facebook: NatureCity Supplements #NatureCityPodcast #Resveratrol #HealthyAging #SkinHealth #BoneHealth #LongevityScience #AntiAgingResearch #SupplementScience #HealthSpan #VeriteResveratrol

Do You Really Need Expensive Longevity Supplements?

In this episode of the NatureCity Podcast, host and supplement expert Carl Pradelli takes a step back from the hype surrounding cutting-edge longevity supplements to ask a more practical — and important — question: Do you really need expensive, trendy longevity products to support healthy aging? With longevity now dominating wellness headlines, many supplements promise to slow aging, lengthen telomeres, boost NAD+, or activate autophagy — often at a steep monthly cost and with limited long-term human research. Carl explains why longevity isn’t driven by a single “magic molecule,” but by a network of systems including a healthy inflammation response, oxidative stress protection, cardiovascular health, immune system regulation, brain function, and cellular integrity. In this episode, Carl breaks down how well-established nutrients — backed by decades of human research — already support many of the same biological pathways targeted by newer longevity compounds. He highlights three foundational supplements that almost everyone should prioritize first for both health span and longevity: Vitamin D (especially when paired with Vitamin K2)Omega-3 fatty acids from high-quality fish oilVitamin E tocotrienols Carl explains how these nutrients support the same health systems targeted by newer longevity compounds, and even mitochondrial function and  telomere integrity too — all without the uncertainty and cost of newer longevity “stacks.” You’ll also learn why optimizing the fundamentals can deliver powerful aging benefits today, not just theoretical lifespan gains decades from now. If you’re curious about longevity but want science-backed, realistic guidance before spending hundreds of dollars a month on supplements, this episode is for you. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN Why longevity isn’t controlled by one single nutrient or pathwayThe hidden downside of expensive, cutting-edge longevity supplementsNetwork of systems that influence agingWhy Vitamin D is one of the most underestimated longevity nutrientsThe role Vitamin K2 plays alongside Vitamin DWhy omega-3s are often called the “original longevity supplement”How omega-3s support heart health, brain health, and telomeresWhat tocotrienols are — and why most vitamin E supplements miss themHow tocotrienols support cellular, mitochondrial, and brain healthWhat telomeres really are and how you can protect themWhy consistency beats novelty when it comes to healthy aging SUBSCRIBE & CONNECT Don’t miss future episodes packed with supplement science and practical longevity insights. ✅ Subscribe to the NatureCity YouTube channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and your favorite streaming platform 💬 Comment below with your biggest takeaway from this episode Explore NatureCity supplements at 👉 https://www.naturecity.com FOLLOW US Instagram: @NatureCitySupplements Facebook: NatureCity Supplements #NatureCityPodcast #Longevity #HealthyAging #VitaminD #Omega3 #Tocotrienols #Telomeres #AntiAgingScience #HealthSpan #SupplementScience

Do Coffee & Tea Affect Bone Health?

Is your daily coffee helping you… or quietly harming your bones? And could tea actually strengthen them? In this episode of the NatureCity Podcast, host and supplement expert Carl Pradelli revisits a popular question from a past episode: Is caffeine bad for bone health? This time, he breaks down new research published in late 2025 that followed nearly 10,000 women over age 65 for a decade — revealing some surprising differences between coffee and tea when it comes to bone mineral density. Carl explains why moderate coffee intake is usually safe, when it can become a concern (especially for postmenopausal women), and why tea — particularly green and white tea — may actually support stronger bones thanks to powerful polyphenols. He also shares practical, realistic strategies for protecting bone health without giving up your morning cup of coffee. Finally, Carl explains why bone health requires far more than calcium alone, and how NatureCity’s Tru Osteo® and Tru Osteo Plus® formulas are designed to support not just slowing bone loss — but potentially improving bone density over time. If you care about aging well, staying active, and keeping your bones strong for the long haul, this episode is a must-listen. WHAT YOU’LL LEARN What the newest long-term study reveals about coffee, tea, and bone densityWhy tea drinkers showed higher bone mineral density over 10 yearsWhen coffee consumption may negatively affect bone healthHow caffeine impacts calcium absorption (and why the effect is smaller than you think)Why postmenopausal women and low-calcium diets need extra cautionThe surprising role alcohol plays in worsening coffee’s bone effectsHow tea polyphenols and catechins support bone-building activitySmart ways to enjoy coffee while protecting your bonesWhy calcium alone isn’t enough for strong, healthy bonesHow Tru Osteo® and Tru Osteo Plus® support comprehensive bone health SUBSCRIBE & CONNECT Don’t miss future episodes packed with supplement science and practical wellness insights. ✅ Subscribe to the NatureCity YouTube channel 🎧 Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and your favorite streaming platform 💬 Comment below with your biggest takeaway from this episode Explore Tru Osteo® and Tru Osteo Plus® at 👉 https://www.naturecity.com FOLLOW US Instagram: @NatureCitySupplements Facebook: NatureCity Supplements #NatureCityPodcast #BoneHealth #CoffeeAndBones #TeaBenefits #HealthyAging #Calcium #VitaminD #VitaminK2 #OsteoporosisPrevention
