This podcast series focuses on the people living on the 6th floor of UC Berkeley's Martinez Commons, more specifically known as the Transfer Living and Learning Community (TLLC). As a member of this community, I have learned that everyone has such unique stories to tell about their journeys to Cal as transfer students. Not everyone has been in school as long or even graduated high school. This series will be divided into 4 episodes where we follow along Phyllis (my roommate), Thien, Roshan, and Francisco and hear them climb to the top as the share how they became a Golden Bear!

    Bringing Community to Cal

Hey, y’all! Welcome to the last episode of the Transferring to the Top series! Today’s episode focuses on community, what it means to my floormates and, I, and where we find it. We established that the TLLC (Transfer Living and Learning Community) is a huge source of community for Phyllis, Francisco, Thien, Roshan, and I! We also end the episode by giving listeners some tips on finding some form of community. Thank you for making it all the way to the fourth episode and I hope you’ve enjoyed this series. So much love, Crystal G. 3

Fiat Lux or Pay the Bucks

Hey, y’all! Welcome back to Transferring to the Top, we’re on episode 3! Today’s episode will dive into the academic lives of my floor mates and me as transfers. Coming in two years later into a 4-year university isn’t always easy but it isn’t impossible and this is an idea that Thien explores. Fiat Lux or Pay the Bucks plays on the UC Berkeley motto which means ‘let there be light.’ It aims to poke fun at having to pay so much money yet not being able to take advantage of all the opportunities at Cal. With that being said, I’ve been able to enjoy a lot of what Berkeley has to offer despite being here for a shorter amount of time.

From CC to the Big C

Hey, y'all! Welcome back to the second episode of Transferring to the Top. Today's episode will dive into the community college journeys of my floormates and how they navigated their years at CC. We also speak a little bit about the stigma of community and how it's extremely toxic and irrational. Next week's episode will focus on academics at Cal and how it's been as a transfer student.
