Creageivity 42 - with movement facilitator, poet & performer Rebecca Faro

Born in Scotland but living and working in Las Alpujarras, Southern Spain for many years, Rebecca Faro does so many things and covers so many bases! She’s a movement facilitator, trained dancer at the Bush Davies School of Dance, plus a poet and performer: ‘In the web of our existence dances our dream like stirring of the wind breathing our being.' Rebecca describes how, “For many years growing up I felt cut off and alone, living amongst the fury and dust trails of my parents’ domestic violent marriage. Escaping into nature, writing down all my tangled feelings, were moments that enabled me to access something true within myself.” (You can read more about this on Rebecca’s website). She has also started ‘Death Cafés’, which she speaks eloquently about, outlining the importance of facing death, and what ‘a good death’ might be, as well as giving some background on the international Death Café movement. It’s a light and interesting story, despite the apparent weightiness of the subject. In development is a show to take to the Buxton Festival in England for 2027, and she has just published a book of poetry. Ranging from soulful reverie to fond remembrance, playful musing to the spiritually meditative, her verse is both deeply personal and readily relatable. Titled ‘Catching the Fall’ it’s in four sections: Dreams, Love, Grief and Memories; and is available direct from Rebecca’s website: https://dancinginsideout.com/poetry-book  The poems Time and We Live As Though written and read by Rebecca, which start and end the podcast, feature the piano music of Mix Amylo.  Rebecca’s website: dancinginsideout.com   If you feel you're too old to be creative, or too creative to be old, then Creageivity is the podcast for you!

Creageivity 41 - with artist Julian Bell

Julian Bell is a painter and art writer based in the English town of Lewes, East Sussex. He studied English Literature at Magdalen College, Oxford. From 1974 however he set up as a painter, 'learning on the job' by accepting commissions for portraits, landscapes and pub signs. He has exhibited his paintings widely, and is also the author of eight books, including studies of Van Gogh, Bonnard, and the neglected 17th-century original Adam Elsheimer. We begin Creageivity 41 with a look back to Julian’s distinguished artist parents, Quentin Bell and Anne Olivier Bell, and find out about a connection to Hollywood actor George Clooney. Later, we also hear a little of other relatives from the famous Bloomsbury set. Julian’s quiet and self-effacing manner masks a very individualistic way of looking at life - and expressing his spiritual viewpoint - in images which are arresting and highly engaging. His work deals with the world as it is, and can show nature, motorways, and the entrance to cities, sometimes using aerial and unusual viewpoints. An example Julian talks about (seen by Adrienne and Harlan) is a ceiling painting in Pelham House, Lewes, where the viewer is looking up at a tightrope walker crossing the vault. The painting is also notable in that it includes the portraits of many of the people working on the refurbishment of the building at the time. We also get to hear about painting techniques, and how Julian dealt with a disastrous fire which destroyed his studio, along with a huge stock of his unsold work. A thoroughly interesting episode!  Julian’s website: https://julianbell.co.uk Julian's gallery: https://natashaokane.art Julian’s books: https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/5959.Julian_Bell Book about Julian’s work: Storytelling Pictures: The Art of Julian Bell by David Carrier (Distanz Publishing, 2026)  Music:                Bartok Mikrokosmos 77, by Lorenzo Buczek Bach Cello Suite in Gmaj, by PM Music (Note: Julian’s actual listening, as mentioned in the podcast was to Pierre Fournier, however copyright on this is not possible) Sunny Café, by Alex Morgan         If you feel you're too old to be creative, or too creative to be old, then Creageivity is the podcast for you!

Creageivity 38 - with Actor / Poet / Food entrepreneur Maya Waterman

With memories going back to hiding under a table during World War Two air raids, actor, poet and food entrepreneur Maya Waterman recalls vivid moments in her life. Her path from a blitzed London was eventually to take her to the English town of Tunbridge Wells (at the casual suggestion of a friend) where she started a very successful baking business. Baking and feeding people remained a theme throughout her career, and when she moved to Los Angeles, she started several successful businesses, including food deliveries to the Hollywood creative industry.  It was here that Maya began to have her childhood dreams of an acting career encouraged when she was invited to take classes, in exchange for managing the affairs of a theatre company. She was then spotted - at a relatively late age - by two Producers looking for a lead character actor for a TV series, with her film and TV career only taking off in her 60s. At the same time Maya was becoming an in-demand face in commercials and music videos, including for Thirty Seconds to Mars and Sam Fender songs. She also took the lead in Joyride, an Amazon commercial which she says is now recognised as ‘a classic’. As a poet Maya had an intense and highly creative period of writing, and in Creageivity 38 she reads three of her pieces for us. Acting opportunities continue, and Maya has also been very active in social justice and support projects - a truly rounded artist with fascinating stories to tell!
