Why Grief Doesn’t Follow a Timeline with Brinlie Madill

This is a very raw episode of Yeah The Gals, as I sit down with Brinlie Madill - a young mum, photographer and midwifery student, who shares her experience of losing her Mum, Nikki to cancer and the way grief can show up in the wake of loss. Brinlie shares the rollercoaster of what the last few years have looked like for her and her family. From the shock of her Mum's diagnosis, the realities of supporting her through treatment, and what life has looked like since she said goodbye - all while trying to be a Mum herself. We touch on: * What it’s like to become a mum just as you're losing yours * Grief that doesn't come in stages (and why the hardest bit came 10 months later) * The trauma of hospitals, health anxiety and PTSD after loss * How parenting kept her going when she couldn’t get out of bed for herself * Why asking for help is hard, but necessary * What actually helps someone who’s grieving * Letting go of timelines, pressure and perfectionism in healing * Learning to soften, not shrink, in the wake of grief If you’re walking through loss, supporting someone who is, or just want a better understanding of what it means to live with grief while the world keeps moving - this conversation will hit you in the feels. A People Pleasers Boundary Breakdown with Abbey Gibson

In this episode of Yeah The Gals I’m joined once again by friend of the pod and one of my most requested guests…therapist, mum, and boundary-setting queen, Abbey Gibson from Woman Kind Therapy.  You know those chats where you feel seen, slightly exposed, but also really empowered? This is one of those. We dive deep into the tangled web of people pleasing, burnout, and why setting boundaries feels so bloody hard. We unpack the why: Where that urge to be “the good girl” and make everyone else happy even comes from (spoiler: it’s got layers), and talk through the real toll that always saying yes can take on your mental health, relationships, identity and nervous system. Abbey also shares some absolute gems around how to start setting boundaries (even if it makes you feel like a total as*hole), and why discomfort is a necessary part of personal growth. This ep is honest, layered, and just such a nourishing conversation for any gal who's ever felt stretched too thin. We cover: Why people pleasing is actually a self-betrayal strategy (ouch, but true)How “being good” became a measure of our worth as girlsThe real toll people pleasing takes on your body and mindThe link between burnout, perfectionism and mental loadHow to set boundaries without a meltdownWhy therapy isn’t just for crisis… it’s a tool for coming home to yourselfWhat self-worth really is (hint: it’s not about achievements) If you've ever felt like you're doing too much and yet still not doing “enough,” please listen to this ep. I promise you'll walk away with so much more clarity, compassion, and maybe even a few permission slips to let go of what’s no longer serving you. Big love to Abbey for her wisdom, her warmth, and for being so bloody generous in this chat. 🎥 Watch us on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@yeahthegalspodcast 📲 Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/yeahthegalspodcast/?hl=en We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we record this podcast and pay our respects to their Elders, past and present. That First Year of Motherhood with my best gal Tamara Scott

We’re back with the final chapter of our little trilogy chat — with my best gal Tee. Tamara and I sat down two years ago when this podcast was just a baby. We were chatting infertility, IVF, and hopes for motherhood. A year later, we were both pregnant, breathless, and anticipating the arrival of our little gals. And now? We’re in it. Mum life. Sleepless nights, full hearts, mashed banana bloody everywhere. In this raw and honest catch-up, Tee opens up about her first year as a mum — from a surprise early birth and C-section, to navigating breastfeeding, baby blues, and a hip dysplasia diagnosis for little Willa. It’s not just the highlight reel. It’s the messy middle. And it’s a convo we need more of. We talk about the guilt, the identity shifts, the weird in-between of wanting to be grateful and wanting it to be easier. We unpack the expectations, the emotional load, and the moment you realise your baby looks just like you (grunts and all). In this episode, we chat about: - The wild birth story — a routine check-up turned C-section - The unexpected breastfeeding challenges (and choosing formula without the guilt) - Baby blues, postnatal therapy, and checking in on your own mental health - Navigating hip dysplasia and what it means for connection and care - The reality of living 40 minutes from anything - Why Tamara and her partner chose to keep Willa’s face off social media - The shift from survival mode to “this is actually amazing” - Letting go of perfection and learning to trust your gut Whether you're a new mum, a mum-to-be, or someone still figuring it all out — this is your permission slip to be human. We see you, we love you, and you are not alone. 🎥Watch us on YouTube – https://www.youtube.com/@yeahthegalspodcast 🧡Follow us on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/yeahthegalspodcast We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this episode was recorded and pay our respects to Elders past and present.
