Sorry, no fish in this episode! Instead, Christine interviews Josh and Amber about their experiences in animal science. To celebrate Black History month, we get to know Josh and Amber through the lens of being people of color. We talk about issues of mentorship, representation and the importance of being included. DEI has become a term that has come with a lot of backlash but we attempt to cut through the assumptions, and speak on these topics in a way that's open minded and thoughtful. We hope you enjoy it! Species Spotlight: The Ocean Sunfish

In this episode, "Species Spotlight: The Ocean Sunfish", the crew dives into the subject of ocean sunfish! These animals have the smallest brain to body ratio, with a car sized body and a walnut brain. First discovered in the 1700s, much is still unknown about these odd creatures but we share everything we learned! Come learn about a fish without a real tail, that's covered in jelly-like flesh and parasites! This podcast is brought to you by Nemateleotris magnifica, commonly known as the fire goby. These fabulous little pyros have been known to conjure up wizard-like flame spells, turning their opponents into a pile of ash. They are used by blacksmiths to forge magical greatswords with dragon slaying capabilities. They inhabit live volcanoes, and the sandy bottoms of the Indo-Pacific oceans where they feed on small planktonic creatures. Cheers to you, oh great and mighty flame goby! Aquarium of the Pacific

In today’s episode, "Aquarium of the Pacific", the crew revisits their time at the Aquarium of the Pacific, located in sunny Long Beach California. Amber and Christine were actually able to visit twice! They go through the exhibits, favorite sightings and rate the aquarium. Frogs, birds, jellies, sharks, they have quite a few species. They also have many garibaldi, the pride of the pacific ocean and native to California. We also provide a bit of history for this dynamite aquarium! Come along! Year in Review: 2025

Gettin' Fishy With Video Games (Remastered)

This week, we join the remaster trend by re-recording a classic episode that our online listeners have never heard! The Life of Gars w/ Dr. Solomon David

In this episode, "The Life of Gars," the crew talks everything gar, with the GARgantuan “Gar Guy” himself, Dr. Solomon David. Gars have been around much longer than humans. It helps when you grow so big that you have no natural predators! They’ve somehow wrongly been characterized as a “trash fish” and Dr David is here to set the record straight. We learn about their evolution, reproductive strategies, distribution and much more! Solomon is doing great work in ecology and in science communication, getting the word out about these primitive ancient fish. This podcast is brought to you by the alligator gar. Nothing brings clarity to a name more than naming an animal after another animal, or a fruit after another fruit. Just ask the grapefruit or the dolphin fish! We took one look at this gar and named it after one of the most commonly known reptiles in America. Elongate mouth? Rows of sharp teeth? All very alligatorish. Why we chose this over the name “crocodile gar” we will never know. Perhaps it's because we often see gar’s later, alligator and not in a while crocodile. Fish and Climate Change w/ Rollie Williams
