    Your Therapist Needs Therapy 145 - #notalltherapists

Ugh. This week there’s drama to talk about. We’re talking about the recent online firestorm around TherapyJeff, whose response to CNN's reporting on a so-called "rape academy" website was not good. We’ll cover why the way he said it matters as much as what he was, with the best possible reading, trying to say. Before getting to the outcry, we slow down on the CNN story itself, including a closer look at that 62 million users claim and what media literacy on a topic this serious actually requires. It's a messy story with no clear good guys, and the goal is to think through it carefully rather than just post a hot take. Also, the title is a reference to a Maria Bamford joke that became a running gag on Arrested Development, because sometimes you need a little humor to lighten heavy topics.  As always, Jeremy has all his practice info at Wellness with Jer, and you can find him on Instagram and YouTube. To show your love for the show you can pick up some merch! We appreciate support from likes, follows, and shares as well! None of my online work would be possible without my media maven Kenny, so check out their work as well at kenlingdesign.com ----- Podcasts about therapy do not replace actual therapy, and listening to a podcast about therapy does not signify a therapeutic relationship. If you or someone you know is in crisis please call or text the nationwide crisis line at 988, or text HELLO to 741741. The Trevor Project has a crisis line for LGBTQ+ young people that can be reached by texting 678678.

Your Therapist Needs Therapy 141 - Talking Apostasy with Sammy from HaramDoodles

This week Jeremy is joined by the incredibly talented Sammy from Haram Doodles. Jeremy and Sammy are both Borgenicht Fellows and they chat about some of the similarities they experienced leaving high control religion. Sammy talks about her deconstruction from Islam and starting Haram Doodles as a way to practice joy in her art while creating a safe space for ExMuslims to connect. Sammy also talks about her work with Ex-Muslims International to end apostasy and blasphemy laws.  To learn more about Sammy and her work, head over to haramdoodles.com or follow her on Instagram. Follow this link to learn more about and support Ex-Muslims International, and head over to exmuslim.me to read others’ or share your story of leaving Islam. This retreat is designed to let your nervous system settle and come back to yourself. It’s rest, grounding, and trauma-informed connection instead of more noise. ----- Podcasts about therapy do not replace actual therapy, and listening to a podcast about therapy does not signify a therapeutic relationship. If you or someone you know is in crisis please call or text the nationwide crisis line at 988, or text HELLO to 741741.
