Carrier to Current: The History of Cabrini Radio is an 8-episode series that takes a behind the scenes look at one of Cabrini University’s strongest student-run organizations - Cabrini Radio. From its inception in the 80s as a carrier current, to switching to the FM dial in the early 90s, and now, in 2023, a fully online streaming radio station, Cabrini Radio has a rich history and an alumni base that was eager to reminisce and relive their DJ days.

    Episode 8: Special

    In the Eighth (and final) episode of Carrier to Current: the History of Cabrini Radio, you will hear what has made Cabrini Radio special to those who have been on staff through the different eras. From the early days to today, there are many themes that have continued to this day. Everyone has a unique story to tell about their time on staff and what made it special to them, this episode will highlight many of those stories from the Staff over the years.     Episode 7: Structure

    In this episode of Carrier to Current: The History of Cabrini Radio, we hear about GMs and exec staff members that were on the Cabrini Radio staff that were part of the structure of Cabrini Radio. From having lots of execs help run the station, to having less execs, the structure of Cabrini Radio has changed over the past 40 years. Fulfilling the day-to-day responsibilities as an exec staff member of Cabrini Radio, there’s plenty of roles that have needed to be filled in order to maintain the structure of Cabrini Radio. We’ll hear about the change of the structure of Cabrini Radio from the beginning, to the Cavalier Radio era. We’ll hear about a rock format that Cabrini Radio once had, to a present day variety format. Turning the radio station into a bigger program was important, and we’ll hear how that was done. Being a student-run radio station, Cabrini Radio has always been about providing hands-on experience for students, and providing leadership opportunities to be successful as a college radio station.     Episode 5: Technology

    In this episode of Carrier to Current: The History of Cabrini Radio, we hear alumni talk about the different types of technology they got their hands on during their time in their respective era. Technology Cabrini Radio has had over the past 40+ years, from turntables to CDs to digital, Cabrini Radio has consistently upgraded studio equipment to keep up with the latest technological trends. Alumni speak on the studio setup and what they had to work with while they were on staff. As time moves forward, we hear about the enhanced technology alumni were able to get their hands on to produce the best radio show possible on Cabrini Radio. Upgrading studio equipment was crucial to Cabrini Radio as time moved forward, giving the staff members hands-on experience with the latest technology during each era.     Episode 4: Shows

    In the fourth episode of Carrier to Current: The History of Cabrini Radio you will hear about the different types of shows our Djs had run over the years. Shows and the DJs who run them are the cornerstones of Cabrini Radio. There have been many different shows across the various eras and it has been amazing to see the evolution over the years. The station has gone from struggling to get music to play to having an extensive library that our Djs can pick from for their two-hour shows.  Each Dj brings their specific passions and personality to the radio when they host their show allowing for creative freedom unmatched anywhere else at Cabrini.     In the this episode of Carrier to Current, former Cabrini Radio staff members recount their personal experiences while working for the station. This episode dives into tales that shaped Cabrini Radio's history, both positive and negative. The classroom, on-site, and studio were all sources of enjoyment and challenges. However, through perseverance, the issues were ultimately resolved, and this is why Cabrini Radio continues to grow each and everyday. More than four decades later, our DJs still cherish their fondest college memories, many of which were created inside the radio booth.
