    Choosing Life & Peace in the Face of Death

    Usually I try to post episodes about motherhood centered topics, but this episode is more about navigating extreme difficulties in general, which definitely can apply to motherhood. The difficulty I'll be speaking of here is the grief associated with my dad's recent death. This episode centers on Romans 8:6 — the choice between a carnal mind (death) and a spiritual mind (life and peace) — and describes practical steps we can all use to quickly shift our perspective out of the gutter, and, in so doing, find God's amazing comfort. Please note--I am more of a writer than a podcaster, so this episode has some funny flaws (for example, at some point I cough and the software I'm using to edit the show didn't edit the cough out haha!! O well--real life is what this podcast is all about anyway!). Also, at one point I mention reading some verses in Luke 11. I believe those verses are actually found in Luke 12.     …and a spicy little *bonus chat* about spiritual warfare. Buckle up, Christian mums, because we’re about to talk about the best and only defense against the raging mom-guilt monster: the blood of Jesus. And, of course, because I can’t just sit still and do the easy, acceptable thing, I’m throwing in a complimentary talk about the mildly controversial subject of spiritual warfare. Opinions differ in the Christian world about spiritual warfare, yet despite the different ways of looking at it, the Bible is clear that God has given us the mandate and the tools to fight the things that are against us. And fight we should, because the second-best way to rid ourselves of mom guilt is to stop doing the things that make us feel guilt and shame in the first place, and this is where the spiritual war work comes in. Except this mini look at what the Bible says about the oftentimes painful purification process God puts us through won’t leave you with a massive guilt trip and a burdened heart. The Bible is better than that. Sanctification, purification, and holiness aren’t just religious words we throw around when we don’t know what to say to people who are suffering.
