Episode 164: 501(c)(3) or Not? Doreen Browning Helps Us Make Sense of It

Your homeschool co-op started with a few families, a shared vision, and a desire to build community, but as it grows, suddenly bigger questions start popping up. Do we need to become an LLC, a non-profit, something else entirely? What does it even mean for a homeschool co-op to have a legal structure? What is a legal structure? And why would we need one in the first place? In this episode, we're super excited. We're breaking down what a legal structure actually is, when a homeschool group may want one, and some of the questions leaders should be asking as their community grows or even from the beginning. We'll talk about liability, money, leadership, and why choosing a structure isn't just about paperwork. Rather, it's about creating a healthy foundation for the ministry and community you're building. So if you've ever wondered, "Are we supposed to be doing something more official than we are right now?" Then this episode is for you.
