#168 Apology vs. Amends: Why "I'm Sorry" Isn't Enough After Betrayal

An apology is a moment. Making amends is a process - and confusing the two is one of the most common places betrayal recovery gets stuck. In this solo episode, Hali breaks down the real difference between apologizing and making amends after infidelity and betrayal. An apology expresses remorse, and it often marks where repair begins, but it was never built to carry the full weight of what betrayal breaks. Making amends is something else entirely: a commitment to make things right and to live differently, demonstrated through consistent, trustworthy action over time. Hali walks through what making amends actually looks like in practice: working with a professional to build a recovery plan you can sustain, setting goals that reshape how you live, respecting your partner's boundaries, naming the values you're committing to, and developing genuine empathy for the impact of your choices. She also names the foundation the whole process depends on: staying in integrity, because a single new breach can derail months of rebuilt trust. This episode is for you if: You're the partner who caused harm and you've wondered why your apology didn't land the way you hoped — or you want to understand what real repair requires of you. You're the betrayed partner and "sorry" hasn't felt like enough — and you want language for why you were never asking for too much. Enjoyed This Episode? #166 Why Shame Is the Enemy of Accountability — And What to Do About It with Jacob Fletcher, CMCH, CSAT

One of the biggest obstacles to healing after betrayal isn't a lack of love — it's shame. When the person in recovery floods with shame, they lose the ability to truly listen, hold space, or take accountability. And without that, trust cannot rebuild. In this episode, Hali sits down with Jacob Fletcher, a Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist (CSAT), to talk about what real relational healing requires — and why slowing down is often the fastest path forward. Whether you're the partner trying to understand why accountability feels so inconsistent, or the person in recovery trying to figure out how to actually show up — this episode gives you a real, honest look at the inner work required on both sides. Connect with Jacob Fletcher:  Jacob Fletcher is a licensed mental health counselor and the founder of Pure Wellness Counseling where he specializes in helping individuals navigate trauma, addiction, and personal growth. He is a CSAT therapist and uses various modalities to help his clients find healing. You can also connect with him for coaching at Choose Recovery Services.  Enjoyed This Episode? #165 The Groundhog Day of Disclosure: Why the Same Questions Keep Coming

After betrayal, one of the most exhausting patterns couples hit is what I call the Groundhog Day of disclosure: the betrayed partner asking the same questions again and again, while the partner who caused the harm feels like nothing they say is ever enough. In this episode, we unpack what's actually happening underneath that loop — why the repeated question isn't an interrogation but a nervous system trying to build a floor under itself — and how both partners can survive it without drowning. We talk about: Why answering "logically" doesn't create safety after betrayal How consistency and tone build trust at a body level The despair of "nothing is ever enough" — and the real risk it creates Practical tools for both partners, plus a way to face the loop as a team Enjoyed This Episode?
