38 Freedom or Peace? Which One Are You Actually Looking For?

Which One Are You Actually Looking For?  For years, Lisa thought peace was the goal.  She prayed for peace. Asked God for peace. Looked for peace. Needed peace.  But what if peace isn't actually the thing we're missing?  In this season finale, Lisa explores the surprising difference between peace and freedom and why so many Christians spend years chasing the fruit while ignoring the things disrupting it.  Together we'll discuss:  • Why peace and freedom are not the same thing  • The prisons that quietly disrupt peace  • Why survival mode keeps us stuck  • How shame, fear, resentment, guilt, and grief affect our everyday lives  • What happens when we stop fighting ourselves and begin cooperating with God's work inside us  • Why peace may be the result, not the goal  Because freedom isn't the absence of difficulty, grief, uncertainty, or fear. Freedom is no longer being controlled by the things that used to control you.  And when freedom begins growing, peace often follows.  Living begins when we stop organizing our lives around pain. Transformation happens when insight becomes practice. The Season 3 Resource Guide was created to help you go beyond listening and begin thoughtfully applying what you're learning through reflection questions, exercises, and practical next steps. ➡ Access the Full Season 3 Companion Guide Season 3 Stop Surviving and Start Living Resource Guide - Outside The Pulpit ✍️ If reading is more your thing, I've shared a companion article on Substack that explores this topic a little deeper.  📬 Subscribe to have future reflections delivered directly to your inbox. https://outsidethepulpit.substack.com/p/who-are-you-once-you-taste-freedom?r=6h1pc2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true Send us Fan Mail Support the show 🎧 Thanks for tuning in to Outside the Pulpit. 37 When Survival Skills Outlive Their Purpose

For years, your survival skills may have served you well.  They helped you cope. Protect yourself. Keep going. Make it through.  But what happens when the very strategies that helped you survive begin limiting your freedom?  In this episode, Lisa explores why change can feel uncomfortable even when it's healthy, how the brain responds when your identity begins shifting, and what happens when survival skills outlive the season they were designed for.  We'll discuss:  • Why freedom can feel surprisingly uncomfortable  • How cognitive dissonance shows up during growth  • Common survival strategies many women don't even recognize  • Why your brain prefers familiar over healthy  • The power of "I am becoming..." statements  • How gratitude for past versions of ourselves creates room for growth  Because the strategies that got you here are not always the strategies that will take you forward. 📬 Subscribe to have future reflections delivered directly to your inbox. https://outsidethepulpit.substack.com/p/what-if-you-dont-need-that-anymore?r=6h1pc2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true Send us Fan Mail Support the show 🎧 Thanks for tuning in to Outside the Pulpit. 36 The Feeling Was Never The Destination. Freedom Is.

You don't have to carry it forever. That's why the feeling was never the destination, freedom is. You've identified the pattern.  You've followed the thread.  You've found the knot.  You've faced the feeling.  Now what?  Many women assume healing means continually revisiting the same wounds, emotions, and disappointments over and over again.  But what if healing looks different?  In this episode, Lisa explores why feeling your feelings is part of the process, not the destination.  Together we'll discuss:  • Why emotional healing isn't your full-time job  • How God designed us for healing  • The connection between brain, body, and spirit  • Why some feelings are visitors, not permanent residents  • How to stop carrying burdens God never intended you to carry forever  Because healing isn't learning how to carry more.  Sometimes healing is learning what you're finally allowed to put down.  Transformation happens when insight becomes practice. 35 Feel It Long Enough to Let it Move

Why Feeling Your Feelings Changes Everything  At some point, every transformation journey arrives at a place most of us would rather avoid.  The feeling.  Not understanding it.  Not analyzing it.  Not talking about it.  Actually feeling it.  In this episode, Lisa explores what she calls The Painful Stupid Helpful Part of transformation.  The part nobody wants. The part most of us spend years trying to bypass.  The part that unexpectedly changes everything.  In this episode:  • Why awareness and understanding are not enough  • The difference between feeling and wallowing  • What emotions are actually trying to tell us  • How God designed our brains and bodies to process emotional experiences  • What it looks like to stop resisting and start allowing  Because healing doesn't begin when we understand the feeling. Healing often begins when we stop running from it.  And that may be the most painful, stupid, helpful thing you'll ever do. 📬 Subscribe to have future reflections delivered directly to your inbox. https://outsidethepulpit.substack.com/p/the-answer-i-didnt-want?r=6h1pc2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true Send us Fan Mail Support the show 🎧 Thanks for tuning in to Outside the Pulpit. 34 What if the Feeling Won't Destroy You?

What if the thing you've been avoiding isn't actually dangerous?  Many women spend years running from grief, fear, rejection, disappointment, loneliness, and shame because they're convinced that if they truly feel it, it will overwhelm them.  But what if that's not true?  In this episode, Lisa explores one of the most common fears women carry:  "If I let myself feel this, I might fall apart."  Together we'll explore:  Why difficult emotions feel so threatening The difference between a feeling and the fear of a feeling Why avoidance often costs more than feeling How emotions were designed to move Why the breakthrough isn't finding the feeling, but allowing yourself to experience it What if the feeling you've spent years fearing is actually survivable? And what if healing begins when you finally stop running?  🎙️ Listen now.  Transformation happens when insight becomes practice. 33 What Did Being Strong Cost You, Really?

Strong people get things done. They solve problems. Carry responsibility. Show up when others can't. Keep moving when life gets hard. But what happens when strength becomes more than a gift? What happens when the very thing that helped you survive becomes the thing that keeps you from healing? In this episode, Lisa explores the hidden bargain many capable people unknowingly make: As long as I can handle it, I don't have to deal with it. Not because strong people are weak. But because strong people can function for years without addressing what's happening underneath the surface. Together we'll explore: • Why functioning and healing are not the same thing • How strength can become an avoidance strategy • The powerful question that changed Lisa's life • What many capable people are protecting themselves from feeling • Why healing sometimes begins when we stop carrying everyone else's pain long enough to acknowledge our own Because sometimes the strongest person in the room isn't the freest. And sometimes freedom begins with a single question: What would I have to feel if I stopped being strong for a moment? Transformation happens when insight becomes practice. 32 The Experience We'd All Like To Avoid

The Experience We'd All Like To Avoid You've discovered the pattern.  You've identified the fear.  You've recognized the grief.  You've found the knot.  Now what?  Many people spend years developing self-awareness only to discover that awareness alone doesn't create transformation.  In this episode, Lisa explores the step that many people unintentionally skip: actually feeling what they've spent years avoiding.  Why do some struggles seem to persist even after we've identified the root?  Why isn't knowing enough?  And what happens when we stop running from difficult emotions and begin allowing them to be processed instead?  Join Lisa as she explores why awareness reveals the knot, but healing often begins when we're willing to sit with what's inside it.  Because the feeling you've been avoiding may not be the obstacle.  It may be the doorway. 📬 Subscribe to have future reflections delivered directly to your inbox. https://outsidethepulpit.substack.com/p/the-part-most-people-skip?r=6h1pc2&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true   Send us Fan Mail Support the show 🎧 Thanks for tuning in to Outside the Pulpit. 31 Don't Get Stuck in One Chapter of Your Story

Have you ever found yourself praying about the same struggle year after year and wondering why it's still there? Like the Struggle Bus just keeps pulling in your driveway? Fear. Anxiety. People pleasing. Resentment. Overthinking. Overworking. At some point, many of us begin asking difficult questions: Why is this still here? What am I doing wrong? Why hasn't God fixed this yet? In this episode, Lisa explores a different possibility. What if the persistence of the struggle isn't proof that you're failing? What if the symptom you've been fighting is actually pointing to something deeper? Together, we'll explore the difference between self-condemnation and curiosity, why symptoms make terrible teachers, and how lasting transformation often begins when we stop asking "What's wrong with me?" and start asking "What is this trying to show me?" Because awareness helps us see the loose ends. Curiosity helps us follow the thread. And sometimes the thread leads us to the very place God wants to heal. Transformation happens when insight becomes practice.
