Reiki can sound mysterious until you’re the one who gets off the table and thinks, “I can’t explain it, but I feel different.” That’s where Dane Brown’s story starts, and it’s why this conversation hits so hard for anyone who’s stressed out, curious about energy healing, or trying to find a more supportive way to care for the animals they love. We sit down with Dane, the practitioner behind Great Dane Healing in Northeast Pennsylvania, to trace his path from a first session recommended by a friend to becoming a Reiki Master Teacher. Along the way, we talk about the moment he realized Reiki “found” him, how regular sessions led to training in Usui Reiki, and how practice turns into purpose when you keep showing up. If you’ve been wondering what Reiki actually feels like, what a good session environment requires, or why some people struggle to describe the results, you’ll hear it in real, grounded language. From there, we go deep on animal Reiki and why dogs now make up most of Dane’s clientele. We explore rebranding from Cherry Blossom Reiki to Great Dane Healing, building a Reiki business without crushing overhead, and why mobile Reiki can be a game-changer for pets who get anxious away from home. We also address Reiki misconceptions, especially the claim that Reiki is a religion, plus what to look for in an ethical Reiki practitioner: honest boundaries, a caring presence, and zero overpromising. Dane shares additional tools he offers, including guided meditation, distance Reiki, chakra-focused support, and animal aromatherapy for dogs and cats. You’ll also hear a powerful recent story from a hospital setting that highlights the connection between physical pain, rest, and energetic wellness. Dane Brown | Great Dane Healing Dane Brown is the owner and Reiki practitioner behind Cherry Blossom Reiki, LLC, DBA Great Dane Healing, a Northeast Pennsylvania-based Reiki practice serving both animals and people, with dogs now making up the majority of his clientele. Dane’s Reiki journey began about seven years ago when a friend suggested he try Reiki as a way to help manage stress. At the time, he knew very little about Reiki and wasn't quite sure what to expect. After his first session, he couldn't fully explain what he had experienced—he just knew that he felt noticeably more relaxed. That experience led to regular Reiki sessions and, eventually, an opportunity that would change the direction of his life. When his Reiki Master Teacher offered an Usui Reiki Level I class, some encouragement convinced Dane to give it a try. During that first training, he could immediately feel the energy for himself and knew Reiki was something he wanted to continue exploring. Over the years, Dane continued studying with his Reiki Master Teacher and completed numerous Reiki trainings, eventually becoming a Reiki Master Teacher himself. One of the most influential steps in that journey was completing Compassionate Animal Reiki training. Combining Reiki with his lifelong love of dogs felt like a natural fit and ultimately helped reshape his business. Originally operating as Cherry Blossom Reiki, Dane rebranded his work under the DBA Great Dane Healing—a name inspired by a childhood nickname and his love for dogs. What began as a personal journey to manage his own stress had evolved into an opportunity to support others, particularly animals and the people who love them. Today, dogs are Dane's primary Reiki clientele, although he continues to work regularly with people as well. He offers both in-person and distance Reiki and has continued expanding Great Dane Healing's focus on holistic wellness, including handcrafted pet aromatherapy products, community events, rescue support, and education about complementary wellness practices. Dane approaches Reiki as a gentle complement to—not a replacement for—traditional medical or veterinary care. One of his goals is to make Reiki more approachable, especially for people who may be skeptical, unfamiliar with energy work, or simply curious about what it might offer. After all, that is exactly where his own journey began. Nearly seven years after walking into his first Reiki session without knowing what to expect, Dane now has the opportunity to provide that same space for relaxation, connection, and support to people and animals throughout his community. If this resonates, subscribe, share with a friend who loves holistic wellness, and leave a review so more people and pets can find supportive care.
