I Didn't Survive It. I Became Someone Else.

What happens when the version of you who knew how to handle everything suddenly can't? After a long absence from HumanAF, I'm coming back a bit differently. For the first time, it's just me and the mic. No guest. No old Facebook Live. No neatly packaged lesson from the other side. I'm talking from inside a year that dismantled more than I expected and forced me to reconsider who I am, how I've been living, and what I actually want to carry forward. A catalytic loss. Midlife. Perimenopause. Aging parents. Kids growing up. Relationships changing. Career and financial uncertainty. A nervous system that finally said, we're not doing this anymore. I didn't survive it and return to who I was. I became someone else. I am becoming someone else. And the next series of episodes explore the messy middle of discovering that some of what you thought was personality, strength, love, responsibility, or simply "who you are" may also have been how you learned to survive, stay connected, and remain valuable. What we get into: Why healing doesn't make us immune to being human, and why coming undone doesn't mean we've failed. The difference between understanding change and actually living differently when it disappoints people or disrupts what once felt safe. What happens when your body and nervous system stop cooperating with the life you've been forcing yourself to maintain. Why distance can sometimes give you enough quiet to finally hear your own experience.Moving from "How do I fix this?" toward the much more interesting question, "What is this showing me?"Learning to notice what remains true, what you've outgrown, and what you consciously want to pick back up.A different understanding of self-trust. Less about becoming unfuckablewith. More about learning how to stay with yourself when life f***s with you. There’s no triumphant comeback or tidy transformation at the end of this one. I'm still in it. That’s real life. But aliveness is returning. So is curiosity, possibility, creativity, and my desire to express myself which is huge. Not because I've forced myself back into functioning, but because I'm finding my way back into relationship with myself. If you're somewhere between who you were and whoever the hell you're becoming, this conversation is for you. Maybe you don't need to figure it all out yet. Maybe you just need enough room to notice what's here. Resources: Integration SessionsFollow Keri-Anne on SubstackFollow Keri-Anne on Instagram

Emotional Resiliency: The Deep Feelers Guide to Holding Space for Yourself with Michelle McIntosh (Part 2)

Questions explored: What is ‘Unmasking?’ The two sides to self-exploration and development The difference between grief and loss The importance of community and circle when exploring and expressing emotions Viktor Frankl’s perspective of “space between stimulus and reaction.” TW: Grief, Sexual Abuse  This week’s episode of the HumanAF Podcast is a continuation of Keri-Anne and her close friend and ADHD life coach, Michelle McIntosh’s conversation surrounding emotions.   Michelle starts the conversation with her personal experience of unmasking and discovering Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), highlighting the validation that came with understanding this aspect of herself. Keri-Anne expands on this to highlight the importance of self-exploration, emphasizing that it offers an opportunity to acknowledge vulnerabilities in relationships. It can be challenging to embrace, especially when met with the possibility of losing relationships with those who may not be ready to accept the resulting self-development. The silver lining is the possibility to deepen these connections to new heights.  Keri-Anne and Michelle emphasize the power of authenticity in breaking down walls and creating more meaningful connections through parts work: a concept which helps identify the values associated with different beliefs or behaviours.  Michelle’s mentions of Viktor Frankl’s perspective on the space between stimulus and reaction propelled the conversation towards emotional reactivity and the privilege that can surround emotional experiences such as grief. This episode will resonate deeply with anyone who has ever grappled with the complexities of their own emotions. Don’t miss out on this transformative and soul-stirring discussion!   About Michelle: Michelle McIntosh is a Certified Orton-Gillingham Practitioner and Executive Function Coach. Michelle’s journey took an incredible turn when she learned about her son’s ADHD diagnosis closely followed by her own ADHD diagnosis. This personal experience has ignited her passion for understanding the intricate world of ADHD from within. Michelle’s core belief is that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to navigating ADHD. It’s not just about planners and timers; it’s about uncovering YOUR unique path to success across all areas of your life. Michelle spends her days navigating the depths of the learning process, helping neurodiverse learners find clarity and progress.
