Ep. 46 Dream Lifting After 50: How to Activate Your Bucket List and Live with Purpose

Guest: Mare Brighton - Dream Lifter and Founder of Connection Project 360 Host: Jean, Your Life Over 50 In this heartfelt episode of Your Life Over 50, Jean sits down with Mare Brighton — a self-described Dream Lifter — who helps people activate their bucket lists, live with intention, and move through life with fewer regrets. Mare shares the moving story that inspired her work: two teenage girls who dreamed fearlessly, one of whom tragically passed before ever setting foot in Europe — yet lived her dream daily. That story became the seed of Mare’s lifelong mission to help others “live their dreams while they’re living.” Listeners will discover: ✨ The difference between a bucket list and a living intention list — and why 50 is the “sweet spot” for active dreams. ✨ How to recognize which dreams are truly yours (and which belong to others). ✨ What “Judgment Dragons” are — and how to silence the voices that keep you from dreaming big. ✨ Why sharing your dreams with “safe people” can help make them real. ✨ The power of community in lifting one another’s dreams, not just our own. Jean and Mare also explore how rewriting your list can reflect life’s seasons, and how “playing” with your dreams brings joy back into the process of self-discovery. 2. Ep 45 - From Minnesota Cabin to Peru Paradise - Laura's Adventure-Filled Life

Ep 45 - From Minnesota Cabin to Peru Paradise - Laura's Adventure-Filled Life

From Minnesota Cabin to Peru Paradise - Laura's Adventure-Filled Life Guest: Laura Dias, Retreat Host & Adventure Enthusiast Ever wondered what it's like to completely change your life and follow your dreams? Our amazing guest Laura Dias did exactly that! Born and raised in Minnesota (where everyone "goes up north" to the lakes), Laura has always been what she calls "joyously map obsessed." Laura's Journey Laura's adventure story began early - she saved up money from two jobs to take her first big trip to Europe right after high school. But the real magic happened when she moved to Peru about eight years ago. What started as a business trip to find alpaca products turned into something incredible when she met Carlos, a local guide who was only making $100 for leading 17-day jungle treks to Machu Picchu! Seeing how unfairly he was being paid, Laura suggested they start their own company. And that's exactly what they did! Retreats and Tours Peru was born, offering transformational retreats in the Sacred Valley near Cusco. What Makes These Retreats Special Laura's retreats aren't your typical tourist trips. They focus on the ancient energy of Cusco and the Sacred Valley, taking guests to less crowded places where they can really connect with: Amazing Incan history and stories The beautiful Quechua indigenous culture Stunning archaeological sites The transformational power of stepping outside your comfort zone The retreat season runs from April through November (avoiding the rainy season), and they currently host about 4 retreats per year with room to grow up to 32! Life-Changing Advice for Midlife Women Here's where Laura really shines - her philosophy on adding adventure to your life is pure gold: Start Small: You don't need to climb Mount Everest! Adventure can be as simple as: Putting cinnamon in your tea instead of honey Taking a walk down a path you've never explored Trying a new restaurant in your town Eating dinner at 6pm instead of 7pm Break the Routine: Laura explains that routines can hold us captive. When you do the same things every day, years can fly by without you even noticing. But you remember every trip you took and every adventure you had! Change Your Mindset: Instead of seeing challenges as problems, try viewing them as adventures. As Laura says, "Adventure is fun. A problem can be difficult. But if you can train your brain to see things as adventure... it's a much better way." The Science of Happiness Laura shares this brilliant insight: The word "happiness" comes from the same root as "happenings." You need things happening in your life to be truly happy! Plus, when you step out of your routine, your brain produces endorphins that make you feel better. She also reminds us that: Depression comes from thinking too much about the past Anxiety comes from thinking too much about the future Happiness lives in the present moment Perfect Timing for Empty Nesters For women whose kids have grown up, Laura has encouraging words: "You have more choice than you've ever had in your life!" While being a parent required routines and structure, now you can literally do whatever you want. The key is taking small steps to rediscover what that might be. Connect with Laura Ready to add some adventure to your life? Laura has a Facebook group called "Ignite Your Life" where she posts daily "sparks" - little adventure ideas to get you started. Look for the badge-shaped logo with a little road! Want to visit Peru? Email: laura@retreatsandtoursperu.com Facebook: Ignite Your Life group LinkedIn: Retreats & Tours Peru Laura's story proves that it's never too late to completely change your life and follow your dreams. Whether you're ready for a transformational retreat in Peru or just want to start with small daily adventures, the most important thing is to take that first step outside your routine. As Laura says, "Adventure calls you" - you just have to be brave enough to answer!

Ep. 42 Living Life Before Retirement

Tony Hilton is a nurse practitioner who works for the Veterans Health Administration in Washington, DC, while living in Southern California. She's in charge of a safety program that protects both staff and patients across 175 healthcare systems serving 9 million veterans and about 375,000 care providers. Tony focuses on patient mobility and safety. She explains that healthcare workers have high injury rates, even higher than construction workers! Her job is to keep both staff and patients safe by making sure patients can move around safely. She believes nobody should stay in bed if they can get up and move around, to avoid health problems from not moving enough. When veterans come to VA facilities, Tony and her team set up mobility goals for them. They assess what patients can do, and if they can't stand on their own, they provide special harnesses to help them walk without falling. Her team follows patients not just in hospitals but also in clinics, homes, and communities. Tony explains that when patients feel depressed about their mobility issues, her team focuses on what's meaningful to the individual and works with them to develop goals. She created a chart system that tracks patients' progress over time with a house, sun, and trees at the top representing the goal of returning home. This visual helps patients, families, and staff see progress even during ups and downs. Besides her healthcare work, Tony travels internationally for speaking engagements and pleasure. She especially enjoys visiting places connected to Bible stories, like Israel and Egypt. She's planning to retire on a cruise ship in a few years, saying it's "cheaper than a nursing home" and lets her travel while keeping her brain active. Tony's advice for women over 50 is to focus on emotional and mental wellness first, as this drives physical health. She encourages staying active and connected, not giving up, and embracing purpose. She got her doctorate in public health after age 50 and believes you're "as young as you wish to be."

Ep. 41 "Running Through Life From Dietitian to Life Coach"

In this episode of Your Life Over 50, Jean interviews Caryn, a vibrant 51-year-old life coach from Omaha, Nebraska. Caryn used to be a dietitian and endurance coach, but now she helps women, especially those between 45 and 55, learn how to love themselves and prioritize their own health and happiness. She talks about how many women spend years caring for everyone else and often forget to take care of themselves. Caryn encourages women to start each day by checking in with their own feelings and needs—even just placing a hand over their heart and asking, “What do I want today?” She believes that small changes, like this morning habit, can help women reconnect with who they are. Caryn shares her personal journey, including going through a divorce about ten years ago, and how that hard time led her to start focusing on self-love and personal growth. She also talks about the guilt many women feel when doing something for themselves and how she had to work through that feeling over time. She explains how her career started in hospitals helping people eat better after serious health scares. Over time, though, she realized she wanted to help people before they got sick. That’s what led her to mindset coaching, because she saw that emotions and beliefs often affect our health choices more than just food plans. Caryn also shares her passion for running. She’s completed marathons, half-marathons, and even an Ironman triathlon! She loves helping other women train for races and build healthy habits. For her, running isn’t about speed—it’s about feeling strong and being in nature. At the end of the conversation, Caryn encourages women over 50 to dream big, take care of their bodies, and believe that they can still do amazing things. She says it’s never too late to start something new and become who you want to be. You can find Caryn on Facebook under her name, or on Instagram at @carynfemininefrequency. She’s also rebranding her business to “Abundant and Aligned Mind and Body.”  If you have questions or comments, reach out to Caryn. Ep. 39 - From Shy to Lifting Spirits: Sonya’s Journey to Confidence and Connection

In this inspiring episode of Your Life Over 50, host Jean sits down with guest Sonya Nightingale, a vibrant entrepreneur in her mid-50s who runs two online businesses that empower women—especially those over 50—to feel confident and capable. Sonja is known as the “Fairy Bra Mother”, a title that perfectly fits her first business, where she has helped over 4,000 women find comfort, support, and confidence through properly fitted bras. What began as a personal, transformative experience at a bra expo led her to overcome her extreme shyness and launch a thriving business that not only changed her life but deeply impacted the lives of her clients—some even brought to tears after seeing their new silhouette and feeling seen for the first time in years. Her second venture, Blue Bonnet Travel by Sonya, was born out of her love for the trips she earned through her bra business. With a focus on disability-friendly travel, solo travel for women, and all-inclusive vacations, Sonja is passionate about helping women—especially those hesitant to travel alone—experience the world safely and joyfully. She candidly shares her own challenges, including autism, chronic pain, 27 surgeries, and moments of self-doubt, yet proves that determination, mindset, and support can make anything possible. Despite a period of marital tension over her travel schedule, Sonja's husband ultimately became her biggest supporter, recognizing how much her work meant to her. She credits much of her growth to business coaching, tools like CRM systems, and the encouragement of her clients and peers. Sonya’s heartfelt advice to women over 50 is clear: “It’s never too late to start something new. If I can do it with my limitations, you can, too.” She closes by sharing her upcoming plans for a group cruise to Alaska designed for women over 50 and the possibility of organizing other inclusive travel experiences. You can connect with Sonya via email or on Facebook (details below), and she welcomes those ready to reclaim their confidence—whether through the right bra or the right destination. This episode is a rich blend of laughter, learning, and encouragement—perfect for any woman looking for a second-chapter spark.  Thank you for subscribing and leaving us a review 💡Contact Sonya by Email: bluebonnettravelbysonya@gmail.co 📧 sonya.the.bra.lady@gmail.com Facebook: Sonya Nightingale (look for a pink outfit and a star wand) Check out Your Life Over 50 facebook group: Your Life Over 50 https://www.facebook.com/groups/yourlifeover50
