After watching all the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, I found myself wondering about the songs of the sea, and before I knew it, I was sailing straight into the fascinating world of sea shanties! In this episode of The Music in Me, I'm taking you on a musical voyage to discover the surprising history behind these catchy maritime songs. Were pirates really singing sea shanties? Why did sailors sing while they worked? And how did a centuries-old whaling song become a viral sensation on TikTok? We'll explore the stories behind famous songs like "Drunken Sailor," "Blow the Man Down," "Haul Away Joe," "Leave Her, Johnny," and "Wellerman."     The Music of Dolly Parton: A Heartfelt Tribute

    In this very special episode of The Music in Me, I'm paying tribute to an artist who has meant so much to me throughout my life—the incomparable Dolly Parton. I've loved Dolly's music for as long as I can remember, but what I loved even more was the woman behind the songs. Her kindness, humor, generosity, faith, incredible storytelling, and ability to always be unapologetically herself made her truly one of a kind. I'll be sharing some of my favorite Dolly songs, from classics like “Jolene,” “Coat of Many Colors,” and “I Will Always Love You” to personal favorites including “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” “Backwoods Barbie,” and many more. Along the way, I'll share some interesting stories behind the music and, most importantly, why these songs are special to me. I'll begin with “Love Is Like a Butterfly,” the Dolly song that closed my 50th birthday episode, and end with the beautiful “When I Get Where I'm Going.” This episode is more than a look back at Dolly's music. It's my personal love letter to a remarkable woman whose songs became part of the soundtrack of my life.     50 Years, A Million Memories & The Music in Me

    🎂🎶 I’m turning 50, and I’m celebrating the only way I know how—through MUSIC! 🎶🎂 Come celebrate this milestone with me as I take a musical trip through my first 50 years! From my earliest childhood memories to the music that filled my school years, I’m revisiting some of the artists and songs that helped create the soundtrack of my life. We’re going back to the 80s and 90s for Michael Jackson, Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, Bon Jovi, boy bands, girl groups, 90s country, powerhouse women like Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears, plus some unforgettable songs from movies and musicals. And, of course, I have a few honorable mentions because there are WAY too many artists I loved to fit into one episode! These aren't necessarily the greatest songs ever recorded, they're the songs that bring back memories, moments, feelings, and different versions of me throughout the years. I'll laugh, I'll reminisce, and I may even embarrass myself a little as I look back at the music I grew up with and the songs that still make me want to sing along today! And I'm saving one very special song for the end—one by an artist who has held a special place in my heart for basically my entire life.     The Ultimate Karaoke Playlist

    I love to sing, but there’s just one problem—I’m way too shy to sing karaoke in front of strangers! In this episode of The Music in Me, I’m talking about some of the most popular karaoke songs and what makes them so much fun to sing, from “Sweet Caroline” and “Don’t Stop Believin’” to “Livin’ on a Prayer,” “Dancing Queen,” “Shallow,” “Mr. Brightside,” and more. Then I’m getting personal and sharing some of my own favorite karaoke songs, including Broadway favorites, Disney songs, powerhouse vocals from Whitney Houston, Adele, P!nk, Sia, Frank Sinatra, and three of my favorite Alicia Keys songs. Some of these songs have special memories attached to them, some I used to sing over and over on my old karaoke machine, and others became favorites from singing them in my bedroom or car while pretending I was the original artist.
