    Elisha The Prophet (13): The Death of Elisha

    In this episode, we explore the final chapter of the prophet Elisha's life as recorded in 2 Kings 13. Unlike his master Elijah, who was carried to heaven in a whirlwind, Elisha's end came through a protracted illness — yet his zeal for the Lord never wavered. Even on his deathbed, Elisha delivered God's message to King Joash of Israel, offering a powerful object lesson of deliverance that the halfhearted king failed to fully embrace. And remarkably, God's power continued to work through Elisha even after his death, as a man's body was resurrected upon contact with the prophet's bones. Join us as we draw lasting lessons from Elisha's final days — about the certainty of death, the enduring work of God across every generation, and the urgent call to pursue His promises with wholehearted zeal.

    Elisha The Prophet (12): The Anointing of Jehu

    In this episode, we turn to one of the most dramatic and violent turning points in Israel's history: the rise of Jehu. Commissioned through the prophet Elisha and anointed by a son of the prophets, Jehu was raised up by God to execute long-promised judgment against the house of Ahab. From his furious chariot ride to Jezreel, to the deaths of Joram, Ahaziah, and Jezebel, to the wholesale eradication of Ahab's household and the worshipers of Baal, we trace how God brought about a reckoning decades in the making. Along the way, we'll draw out two weighty lessons from this account: first, that God's wrath is real and must be taken seriously, as the gruesome end of Jezebel foreshadows a far greater judgment yet to come; and second, that reform alone is never enough. Though Jehu purged Baal from the land, he clung to the sin of Jeroboam—a cautionary tale that reaches all the way into the Reformation era and into our own day, reminding us that only a full restoration of God's original message, found in the New Testament, is the path to pleasing the Lord.

    Elisha The Prophet (11): Hazael, king of Syria

    In this episode, we examine the account of Elisha's encounter with Hazael in Damascus from 2 Kings 8:7-15, where the prophet reveals that Hazael will become king of Syria and bring devastating war upon Israel. This brief but powerful narrative connects the work of Elijah and Elisha, showing how God's instructions to Elijah in 1 Kings 19 were fulfilled through his successor. Beyond the historical details—Ben-Hadad's assassination, Hazael's rise to power, and extra-biblical evidence like the Tel Dan Stele—the lesson draws out a timeless truth: God sees the full picture of sin and rebellion among His people and works on His own timeline, sometimes even through ungodly men, to bring about judgment and ultimately call His children back to repentance.

    Elisha The Prophet (10): Siege of Samaria

    In this episode we look at another deliverance of Elisha the prophet. This time, not only is he delivered from death, but the whole city of Samaria is blessed by God. The account of the Syrian siege of Samaria is fascinating and horrifying. The ravages of famine are on display, but so is the glory of God as He brought about a reversal in one day.

    Elisha The Prophet (9): Deliverance From The Enemy

    In this episode we examine the next event recorded in the life of the prophet Elisha. In 2 Kings 6 we see where a humble prophet had more power than an army, not because he was inherently strong like Samson or commanded battle-hardened troops, but because his God, the Lord Jehovah, sent His army to protect the prophet. This same God is the one Christians serve today – and He has the same power.

    In this episode we consider Elisha the prophet's servant, Gehazi, and the record of his greed in 2 Kings 5. Though the account is brief, it is a powerful reminder and warning about sin and its consequences. We will go through the text and draw out a number of lessons to help us stay sober-minded about our service to the Lord.

    Elisha The Prophet (7): Naaman The Syrian

    In this episode we continue to look at the life and deeds of Elisha the prophet. We consider his healing of Naaman, the Syrian general who had leprosy. In this account we see a man enraged when his expectations were not met, but radically changed when he submitted to the command of the Lord. We draw several lessons out of these events that have practical application in our lives.

    Elisha The Prophet (6): The Shunammite Woman

    In this episode we look at Elisha the prophet and his interaction with a woman from Shunem. We note how she blessed him and he, in turn, brought many blessings into her life. Her faith and service to the prophet is a worthy example in-and-of itself, but there are also other lessons to be learned from her life and God's working on her behalf.
