By Flesh and Wall: The Relentless Drive to Make Art with Nick Stiles

Tonight the guys sit down with Nick Stiles, a longtime enthusiast and participant at the studio. Nick is an immensely skilled painter who works strongly in the domains of fantasy, darkness, and imagination. Especially notable is his talent with the figure, long understood as the pinnacle of practice in art: training to render the human form trains one to render anything. He also has several large, public murals to his credit, and recently gave a four-part figure drawing course here at Location 1980. Scholar to Studio: Academic Turned Artist with Dr. Bridget R. Cooks

Tonight's guest Dr. Bridget R. Cooks is the most well-read person we've had on the show. With a Ph.D. in Art History, Visual and Cultural Studies, she is a published author, has written in dozens of exhibition catalogues and academic journals, and has curated numerous exhibitions around the country. But these are only a few of the credentials, stories, and accomplishments in her name: to list everything we talk about in this episode would be impossible. And presently, she's stepping across the aisle, picking up the brush and becoming a visual artist herself. We only dipped our toes in the pool and can't wait to have her back - tune in to one of our most articulate episodes yet Dr. Bridget R. Spec Scripts and Shifting Sands: A Screenwriter's Climb with Ed Dutcher

Tonight the duo hosts Ed Dutcher, a screenwriter with numerous irons in the fire - something they learn is necessary if you're going to make it as an unknown in Hollywood. The glamour is real, and so is the uphill battle atop moving ground. With experience amongst the many disciplines of cinema, including producing, Ed is focused on screenwriting and tells us the skills - many internal attitude choices and grit - that it takes to succeed as an artist in the unique industry that is Hollywood. Paint Beyond the Picture - Scott Ludwig

Tonight's guest, Scott Ludwig, has been in the game for some thirty years. To simply address his works as "abstract" would be to miss the deeper layers of process that go on. Beyond depicting designed scenes, Scott's work experiments with the very medium itself: he has an intimate understanding of viscosities, transparencies, and intermixabilities of various pigments and carriers. What's more, he never stops experimenting and moving forward. Listen in to see how he keeps his engagement with art - as both a producer and an enjoyer - constantly fresh. As always, our journey is truly the destination. Introducing some new segments, get ready with the first interview of the 2025 season.
