Cultivating Friendships at Work

Do friendships at work really matter? As our organization transitioned to using Gallup for our Associate Engagement Survey (AES), one item caught a lot of attention: "I have a best friend at work." Does this really make a difference? And is this something that our organization and leaders should care about? Gallup’s research would overwhelmingly tell us, “Yes!” In fact, their research shows that if you have a best friend at work, you’re seven times more likely to be highly engaged. In this episode, Jamie Kuhne, Vice President of Care Management, and Emilee Tinapple, Clinical Nurse Manager in Care Management, share their experiences with building and cultivating connection in their professional lives and with the teams they lead and how creating workplace friendships can impact our engagement and well-being.

Providing meaningful recognition is one of the most powerful and inexpensive ways for leaders to positively impact team engagement, retention, productivity and even well-being. So why do national and global surveys frequently show that less than half of employees say they are receiving it? Well-being in Decision Making

It's estimated that leaders spend 37% of their time making decisions, on average, making it a core competency of effective leadership. In fact, great leaders are often characterized by their ability to make tough decisions with confidence. But with big decisions or even sometimes the smaller ones also comes responsibility to the people it will impact. In this episode, Kristie McClure, OhioHealth's Senior Advisor of Provider and Associate Wellbeing and Dr. Mike Ezzie, President of the OhioHealth Physician Group discuss the importance of considering the well-being of people when making decisions as a leader. They also share examples of what this looks like for both senior and front-line leaders and steps you can take to assure well-being is taken into account but also doesn't stifle the decision making process.
