10/15/26 - Fr. Christopher Mahar - How Do I Stop Having Digital Vanity?

Father Christopher Mahar earned a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy from Providence College in 2000 and subsequently completed his Bachelor's degree in Sacred Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2003. He was ordained a deacon in St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome in 2003 and a priest in the Diocese of Providence in 2004. He currently serves as Pastor at St. Augustine Church in Providence, Rhode Island.  In Today's Show: EMAIL: Troy from Spencerport, NY Recently I've been so addicted to scrolling, social media, and just the digital vanity as a whole; I've neglected my prayer life, I've put off confession, and hence I've put off daily Mass. It's been incredibly difficult to try and break this habit, and I don't know what to do. Do you have any advice?   EMAIL: Jeremy I treat my life as a job application for Heaven. My wife and I try to totally detach from the material world and focus on what comes next. Whatever God has in store for us, we want to be prepared. We do try to live as if our life is a job application for what comes next in Heaven. Is that the wrong mindset? In my opinion, even if we're wrong, we are still serving our Lord while on earth.   Caller: Lugboxer from Olean, New York In Acts 2 the end times are described in verse 21, 'and it shall come to pass that whoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved' Why is anything other than calling on the name of Lord needed to be saved?   EMAIL: Wilson from Greenwood, South Carolina I watched a Catholic podcast yesterday that featured two prominent priests, and both of them believed that Halloween is "the devil's favorite holiday". When I scrolled down to the comments section, many seemed to be in agreement, and I just don't get it. Halloween was a historically Catholic holiday, and its name is short for "All Hallows Eve". Why do so many Catholic personalities seemingly have an agenda against it?   Caller: Teresa from Syracuse - YouTube The priest at her parish first said that Christ is present in the Eucharist, then said that they are no longer offering the cup because of the cold and flu season.  How does this not contradict the belief that Christ is truly present in both the host and the cup, if they are now withholding the cup for fear of illness?  She would like Fr. Mahar's opinion.   @AmirReza_Harandeh I am from Iran and in Iran Muslims who change their religion will be executed. I can't have access to baptism and catholic religious works . What do I have to do ?   @De-Evilizer What is the history or meaning of the white collar that priests wear?   @phillipdela How do I lovingly reach out to my niece who committed adultery, and not condone her actions?   @IJ72 Do people who take their life go to hell or purgatory? Or do we not know?   Caller: Debbie from MA - 1060AM How can someone stop being judgmental of others, if they recognize that tendency in themselves?   @Felix Last time on the show, you said that parts of Genesis can be considered mythical. If Genesis is sometimes mythical and sometimes not, how are we to know which parts are mythical and which ones are not?   @prcvids2024 What is Father's take on those who say that adopting abandoned embryos of IVF and having them implanted into surrogates to give birth to them is called being PRO LIFE?   Caller: James from Iowa - YouTube When at mass, and girls are dressed immodestly distributing Holy Communion, should he step outside the line, or just accept it?   EMAIL: Aaron from Boston, MA Why are pilgrimages seen as penance?  It feels like taking a break and going on a nice vacation but just focusing the experience on God.   EMAIL: Bradley from Redmond, Washington What are your thoughts on invincible ignorance? What about a gentile in some tribal society that sees no missionaries who have not reached that tribe?   EMAIL: Anonymous from New Orleans Is a confession valid if the priest alters the words? For example, if he says "I pardon you..." instead of "I absolve you..." Should I ask the priest to give the absolution again correctly if this mistake happens again?   EMAIL: Anonymous from Texas My husband feels he doesn’t need to go to confession because he doesn’t do anything bad. I’ve told him we are all sinners, but he isn't receptive. What words can I say to him so he will understand the importance of this holy sacrament?   Visit the show page at thestationofthecross.com/askapriest to listen live, check out the weekly lineup, listen to podcasts of past episodes, watch live video, find show resources, sign up for our mailing list of upcoming shows, and submit your question for Father!

Fr. Robert J. Spitzer, S.J., PhD, is the President of the Magis Center of Reason and Faith, one of the largest science-based Catholic apologetics institutes in the world. Father Spitzer has his own weekly EWTN television show, Fr. Spitzer’s Universe. He has appeared on the Larry King Show (with the late Stephen Hawking discussing the origins of the universe). He has also appeared on the History Channel, the Today Show, and a PBS series. In Today's Show: Caller: Patrick from South Carolina Has an atheist friend who needs to be convinced that our world would require an intelligent force to create it.  What does Fr. Spitzer suggest would be a good way to explain this?   Caller: Heather from Cairo, Ohio - ICR  Her teenager asked her this question and she wasn't sure of the answer:  If a married couple was in a fatal car accident, would they have their funeral and be buried at the same time or separately?   EMAIL: Damon from Buffalo, NY Are priests allowed to pursue an academic career alongside the priesthood? I know historically this was quite common, but I am curious about what it's like today. I have an affinity towards science and philosophy and hope to be a part of the scientific community one day, but I have also been discerning the vocation towards priesthood. I am curious whether I could work towards a PhD after seminary or maybe get a different degree altogether?   EMAIL: Ashtar from Niagara Falls, Ontario Father, statistics have shown that there has been a significant increase of young adults converting to Catholicism (or returning) in the US; why do you think this is happening?   EMAIL: Sean from Cleveland, Ohio Father, what is your response to those that say Catholicism is incompatible with the Natural Sciences as Catholicism is faith-based rather than evidence-based?   @VaticanTheThird Father, how come there are Jesuits in the Eastern Rites? Are they biritual?   Message from Caller: Ed from MA He wants to promote Magis AI. Is there a business card that has a provoking question and a QR code on it? Would you make something like that? 10/13/26 - Fr. William Rock, FSSP - Are There Still Hermits?

Fr. William Rock, FSSP, serves as Parochial Vicar at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Nashua, New Hampshire. He was ordained in October of 2019 and serves as a regular contributor to the FSSP North America Missive Blog. Fr. Rock is also currently contributing to TAN Books “Year of the Latin Mass.”  Fr. Rock’s video contributions can be found on TAN Books YouTube page. In Today's Show: @De-Evilizer Are there still hermits? Do you have to be a priest or a Sister/Nun to be one? Can a lay Catholic woman be a hermit? And how does one go about this? Serious question, not trying to be silly.   EMAIL: Anonymous from Missouri Can you explain how Dignitatis Humanae from Vatican II does not contradict prior Papal teaching? (ie Mirari Vos, Quanta Cura, and Syllabus of Errors) On the surface, it seems like a bit of a contradiction, but I am just an average layman who is not a Theologian.   EMAIL: Anonymous (For Fr. Rock) For the last 5 months, my wife and I have been attending our local FSSP parish and discerning whether we should register there and raise our kids with the Traditional Mass. It has been a very difficult and trying time for us. I love the TLM and know the FSSP is a good thing for the Church, but we struggle with the parish dynamic. I know the priests mean well, but sometimes the tone of preaching comes across as angry or harsh. I have heard other FSSP priests preach, and it is typically not like this. It doesn't bother me all the time, and the homilies are quite good most of the time, but it does concern my wife that our kids would end up believing God is harsh rather than a loving Father. I feel very conflicted and don't know what God wants me to do. Do you have any advice?   Caller: Kevin from Massachusetts Did the rosary exist before it was given to St. Dominic by Mary?   Caller: Molly from Saskatchewan, Canada - YouTube Are a boyfriend and girlfriend allowed to stay under the same roof temporarily (a week or so) if they have separate rooms and other people are staying there with them?   EMAIL: Courtney from St. Louis, Missouri Can a biblically faithful, born-again Protestant have eternal salvation WITHOUT the catholic church?   Caller: Andrew from Nevada - YouTube Is it acceptable for someone to go to confession in a state of mortal sin as a candidate for confirmation?   Message from Caller: Brother Knight Scott Why has Bella Dodd never been considered for canonization by the Vatican? He sees her as a lot like St. Paul because she was a convert who was originally a communist.   @prcvids2024 Can someone be admitted to Seminary if they reject fiducia supplicans?   @jay..._a_g Question for Fr Rock: I was recently asked to be a lector at my Ordinariate parish. I was hesitant, but resolved that if it's a need of my parish it would be charitable to lend a hand.  Is this sound logic? Any advice for me?   @gracieobunny9916 Fr Rock, I have no family practicing the Faith. I’m 60 and single. What you think about pre planning funeral? I am concerned as I have no one to ensure a Catholic funeral etc   EMAIL: Anonymous from Detroit, Michigan I was at the Detroit Institute of Arts when I observed on display the reliquary of an “unknown” Saint that was on display. Inside the reliquary were the apparent remains of the Saint. The reliquary dated to the 1300s. I was very sad that this was a museum piece and not in the hands of the Church. Is this a common occurrence? Is there anything that can/should be done?   Caller: Tom from Massachusetts Has a niece who is in a gay relationship. Are he and his wife prohibited from attending the wedding if they marry civilly?   EMAIL: Anonymous When we are given crosses for which we have no choice but to bear, will God hold it against us if we do our duty for the sake of the duty and for Him, but do not do so joyfully, willingly, or patiently? I think there is grace to be earned in quarreling with ourselves and hopefully coming around to the right conclusion for any hardship we must bear. But will God be angry with us if we only do our duty because we must and not because we want to? 10/12/26 - Fr. Casey Jones - Is Cremation Moral?

Father Casey Jones is a priest of the Diocese of Venice, Florida. He currently serves as the pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Parish and school in Naples, Florida. In Today's Show: @PvtSchimmy May a Catholic dissent from Humanae Vitae, even though not practicing birth control itself, and still be admitted to the sacraments? Meaning, they do not submit their intellect to the teaching.   EMAIL: Anonymous Is cremation moral according to traditional Catholic teachings? I have heard some Catholics argue that cremation was used by pagans to deny the resurrection.   Message from Caller: Brother Knight Scott Why hasn't Christopher Columbus had a case open for canonization?   EMAIL: Mary Lou from Amherst, NY Why is intinction not practiced at most Latin Rite Parishes?   @Felix I thought it’s odd that Jesus said I came to bring the sword. Seems like in that statement he doesn’t want peace on earth. How should we understand that statement?   @mapa77741 Father, should we be praying 3 or 4 mysteries of the rosary? I heard the Luminous were added later.   EMAIL: Greg Would it be right for me to baptize a 14-month-old great-grandchild without permission of the mother who has custody and is not Catholic? I remembered there was a traditional saying that if Sunday Mass is out of reach within more than 1 hour, you are automatically excused. Is this true?   Message from Caller: Lugboxer from Olean, NY - YouTube In Acts 16, the guard asks Paul and Silas how he can be saved. They answer to believe in our Lord Jesus Christ. Why do we need anything more than that to be saved?   @LiteralyMi If you are in your late 20s to early 30s Catholic and unmarried and feel like you are running out of time, what do you do practically to not feel this way?   EMAIL: Maya from Egypt (Convert / The Problem of Evil) Hi Father and thank you for your time. I have recently started to believe in Jesus Christ, Son of God, and I have a question. I live in the Middle East, and maybe you heard about it, but life here involves a lot of suffering for women. If God sees the evil done across the world, why doesn't He help the victims?  Why does God not help people stay safe when he sees everything?   EMAIL: Anonymous Should prayer books, personal missals, or Bibles be blessed by a priest as a sacramental? I've heard that such books don't need to be blessed because they are the word of God. Is that correct?   EMAIL: John from Ohio My atheist friend and his wife (both non-practicing Catholics) want to baptize their baby and have asked me to be the Godfather. However, I asked them why they are doing this if they’re no longer practicing, and they had no answer. Should I refuse the honor or do it anyway for my friend? I feel conflicted and want to do what is right.   @AmongTheWildflowers8 (Modesty) What is the morality of temporary cosmetic procedures like Botox or lip fillers?   @daughterofGod1775 Is it acceptable to be a “Messianic Jew”? In Today's Show: EMAIL: John from Ohio Is choosing to have only one or two children considered fulfilling the obligation to be open to life?   EMAIL: Anonymous from Buffalo, NY Is there an age limit for asking someone to be a godparent? For example, could a great-grandparent be asked?   EMAIL: Elizabeth from North Carolina What is the Catholic church's view of both living and post-death organ donation?   @daughterofGod1775 Would it be OK to donate my body to science?   @catholic123 Are there any types of suffering that we shouldn't offer up?   @Thomas-p7x1w Should Catholics be opposed to the death penalty? How to reconcile modern teachings of the catechism with older church teachings that explicitly allowed it for the sake of justice?   @ChristaDeMark Father, if after doing a deep review of your life you find there are sins that you may not have expressly brought up/remembered in confession, should they still be confessed?   @CrisisisComing Does Charlie Kirk's death count as Odium Fidei?   Message from Caller: Brother Knight Scott He received an email from a couple who are both trans, and they plan to get married.
