    Stay Salty Pt 2

What causes salt to lose its flavor and its preserving power? What makes salt useless? In Part 2 of Stay Salty, My Friends, we're looking at how Christians go from being defined by devotion to Jesus, prayer and Scripture to being more influenced by culture than by Christ. Salt loses its effectiveness when other things get mixed in. The same is true spiritually. Where there's compromise and mixture, deception is sure to be found. Can you recognize when you've deceived yourself or been deceived by culture? When was the last time God's Word exposed a lie, corrected you, and brought you to repentance?

    Stay Salty Pt 1

Stay salty my friends. Jesus told His followers, “You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?” We are called to be distinct, but salt and sugar can look remarkably similar. In a world where deception doesn’t announce itself, believers must develop the spiritual maturity to discern good from evil, truth from deception, and the precious from the vile. If we lose what makes us distinct, how can we influence the world around us? Questions to Consider: Have I maintained what makes me distinct as a follower of Christ? Can I recognize the difference between truth and something that only resembles it? Am I examining my own life and fruit? Have I allowed the world to influence me more than I influence the world? Am I still “salty”?

    When Worlds Collide

When Worlds Collide Many would say that the church has become too political. That politics should never be discussed in church. To quote Josh Howerton, "It's not that the church has become political. It's that politics became spiritual" Church history and scripture are filled with God's people actively engaging their government on moral matters. Preachers like; • Peter Muhlenberg who, during the fight for American independence, regularly spoke out from the pulpit about tyranny. At one point in a church service, after preaching, he took off his minister's robe and revealed his militia soldier uniform, went on to join the army and fight for God-given rights. • Henry Beecher, who spoke out from the pulpit against slavery, went so far as to raise money for rifles to help the anti slavery movement. The rifles became known as Beecher's Bibles. Imagine telling Henry Beecher.... Pastor, you should stay out of politics. His answer would have been that he wasn't preaching about slavery because Congress was debating it. He was preaching about slavery because human beings were made in the image of God and were being enslaved. Politics had entered the territory that belonged to morality and theology. What happens when issues the Church has spoken about for thousands of years suddenly become political issues? Does the Church surrender that ground? Do we stop speaking because politicians have started speaking? Do biblical convictions become off-limits because they've made their way into legislation, elections and courtrooms? Or do we recognize that sometimes the Church hasn't stepped into the political world—the political world has stepped into ours? There are moments when two worlds collide. In this message, we're going to look at what Scripture says about the Church, government, and our responsibility as followers of Jesus when politics enters the territory of morality, theology, and biblical truth.

    The Emo Generation

The Emo Generation God designed us to experience emotions, not to be ruled by them. God’s Word and God’s Spirit reveal Jesus and establish our identity in Him. But when we neglect His Word, live disconnected from His presence we create a void. And eventually, something else will step in and begin defining us and controlling us. 1. Are your emotions informing you, or controlling you? 2. Who gets to tell you who you are: your feelings, your circumstances, or Jesus? Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things 2 Timothy 1:7 For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control Ephesians 4:26 Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger 1 Peter 5:7 Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. 2 Corinthians 10:5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ

    The Forest For The Trees

Missing the forest for the trees. The disciples asked Jesus after he was raised from the dead if he would overthrow the roman rulers and change the jewish people's situation. The disciples literally interrupted Jesus's instructions to go and make disciples, to wait until they had power to fulfill the mission. They were focused on a single tree, a particular situation, so focused that they missed the forest. In this short message we will look at scripture and see how easy it is to have selective attention spiritually. To see in part but completely miss the overall vision of God for our lives.
