    The One Church

    Did Jesus build one church, or does the Bible authorize people to “join the church of their choice”? In this episode, we examine what Jesus and His apostles taught about the New Testament church, Christian unity, and denominational division. Ronnie Scherffius and David Johnson, instructors at the Texas School of Preaching, begin with Jesus’ statement in Matthew 16:18: “I will build My church.” The possessive expression “My church” identifies both ownership and authority—the church belongs to Christ. Addiction is not limited to drugs or alcohol; it can include pornography, social media, spending, sinful habits, and anything that begins to control the heart, mind, and body. From John 8:34 and 1 Corinthians 6:12 to Romans 12:2 and Psalm 119:11, this discussion considers the biblical call to self-control, the danger of being brought under the power of anything, and the need to renew the mind through God’s Word. We also discuss how addiction affects the brain, why Christians must be careful about what they consume, and how parents can guard their children from harmful influences. Above all, this episode points listeners back to prayer, spiritual accountability, wise companionship, and the transforming power of Scripture.     The Bible & Mental Health - Part 1

    Where should a believer turn first when life grows heavy — to the body, or to God? With this opening episode we launch a new series on Scripture and mental health, drawing a careful line between the clinical and the spiritual. We confront two opposite errors: pretending faith makes us immune to grief, and handing every emotional struggle over to the world. We also respond to a trending claim that healing from painful religious experiences must begin with regulating the nervous system rather than turning to God. From the man found "clothed and in his right mind" in Mark 5 to the sufficiency of Scripture in 2 Peter 1:3, we make our case: there is soundness of mind in being with the Son of God. One note: this series does not address chemical imbalances or serious medical conditions requiring professional care — our focus is the emotional difficulties within our control, and the answers God has given for them.

    The Bible - Still Authoritative

    In this episode of the Biblical Christianity Podcast, we discuss why the Bible is still our authority in matters of faith, worship, doctrine, and daily life. We begin with the sovereignty of God and show why His authority is rooted in His position as Creator and Lord over all. From there, we examine how that authority was given to Christ, delivered through the apostles, and preserved in the inspired Scriptures. This episode also addresses the dangers of replacing biblical authority with creeds, traditions, personal feelings, cultural trends, or religious practices that God has not authorized. If we are going to walk by faith, we must walk according to the Word of God.

    "Church Fathers," History or Authority?

    In this episode of the Biblical Christianity Podcast, we examine the so-called “church fathers” and ask an important question: are their writings authoritative for Christians today? While many early Christian writers provide helpful historical insight, their writings were not inspired and must never be placed on the same level as Scripture. This discussion considers men such as Clement, Polycarp, Ignatius, Cyprian, and others, showing how their writings can confirm historical practice while also revealing the gradual rise of error after the apostolic age.
