    Welcome to the twelfth episode of the second season of my podcast, Empower Your Magical Self. My hope is that it will inspire you to consider your perspective, and whether a revamp may benefit your life and the lives of those around you.  My guest today is the brilliant and colorful Kyla Price, aka StarLady Hedge, astrologer extraordinaire, joining me from her home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Like so many of my guests, I discovered Kyla on TikTok, where her extremely active account has garnered over 85 thousand loyal followers. What drew me to StarLady Hedge is her authentic, "we're all in this together" brand of SUPER-informed astrology and fun interaction with her legions of fans.  Maybe it's the autism - like me, Kyla is an autistic woman who was diagnosed later in life. Also like me, she's had lifelong struggles because of it. We both have BIG emotions that have caused even the well-intentioned around us to cluck their tongues and tell us we're being inappropriate. I feel big kinship with her.  We talk a lot in this episode about how crucial a change in perspective can be for those of us mired in existential struggle - and how annoying that suggestion can sound when we're actually mired there.  Interestingly, Kyla uttered the word "sovereignty" and of course I had to mention my book, "Empower Your Magical Self With a One Month Habit Break: A Handbook to Regain Sovereignty" .     Empower Your Magical Self with a 1 Month Habit Break (S2 Ep11)

    Welcome to the eleventh episode of the second season of my podcast, Empower Your Magical Self. My hope is that it will inspire you to consider your habits, and whether any of them detract from your sovereignty and joy.   Today's episode is a little different, in that I don't have a guest. Today I'm talking about habits, and about how changing mine changed my life.  The concept of "habits" looms so large in my world that I wrote a book about habits - specifically about how to break up with one (or just take a break from one) in 30 days.  It's called Empower Your Magical Self With a One Month Habit Break: A Handbook for Reclaiming Sovereignty in 30 Days, and it's based in my own experiences with ceasing a few decades-long habits that were standing between me and my highest self. Briefly, prior to 2020, I spent most of my life struggling with depression and anxiety to the point that I was planning an early exit when the pandemic hit. I can't explain precisely what happened, but I refer to it as grace. I knew I wanted to live, but only if my life was entirely different. I wanted to find a way to live in joy, even though I didn't know what that would entail, or how it would look or feel.  Once I took honest inventory of my life, it became apparent to me that my habits would have to change.  "Show me your habits and I'll show you your future." There's a lot of truth in that saying. I knew my past - it was full of misery, and habits that matched. The two most problematic habits I had were watching news for hours every day and drinking at least one bottle of wine every night.  Please understand that this is not about morals - that was an internalization that I had to fully grok in order to let go of the habits that no longer served me. It was not about judging and bullying myself, it was about honestly assessing what was going on and ditching what no longer served me.  My book Empower Your Magical Self With a One Month Habit Break: A Handbook for Reclaiming Sovereignty in 30 Days is the Project that evolved as a mindful way of jettisoning those habits.  The Project detailed in the book is divided into four themed weeks, and each day offers a prompt or a physical exercise aimed to help you get to the bottom of your habit's origin and shake it loose so that it no longer has power over you.  Week 1: Excavation Week 2: Tools Week 3: Ideas Week 4: Going Deep Wrapping Up Empower Your Magical Self With a One Month Habit Break: A Handbook for Reclaiming Sovereignty in 30 Days is the book I wish I'd had when I was endeavoring to change my habits. My hope is that it will inspire you to consider what community means to you.  My guest today is Meghan Rubinstein, the founder of Sakala in Denver. Although we were talking by video, I've actually met Meghan in real life (!), so that sets her apart from most my guests.  I met Meghan in real life because Sakala is a real, actual place in Denver, and (with great trepidation) I attended a Coffee & Communitea gathering there last year. The trepidation wasn't to do with Sakala specifically - as an autistic woman who was undiagnosed until quite recently, I've had decades of horrific social experiences and thus developed severe social anxiety, so walking into a group of strangers is terrifying for me. My guest today is the brilliant and fierce British witch Kelly-Ann Maddox, author of Rebel Witch and the new Witch in Darkness (to which I'll return momentarily).  I read Rebel Witch: Carve the Craft that's Yours Alone last year and immediately wanted to have its author on my podcast, so this interview is a wish fulfilled for me. It was an important book for me because of its irreverent (and that's not to say disrespectful, not at all) approach to witchcraft as... "A practice shaped by their individual personality and life journey, rather than allowing themselves to be spoon-fed. It challenges witches to design a nurturing practice that is truly theirs."     Welcome to the eighth episode of the second season of my podcast, Empower Your Magical Self. My hope is that it will cause you to reconsider how you've always seen something. Perhaps there's something you're missing, or seeing through a skewed lens.    I became aware of today's guest, Joe Ellison, in the way I became aware of most my guests - TikTok. Joe is just a few months older than me, and in our early 50s, Joe and I are definite elders of TikTok. He's a singer/songwriter, and his band, Run with Patience, is currently on tour in Eastern Europe - he was in Serbia when I checked in with him earlier this week to get a photo for this episode.  Though Joe's a rock star, that's not what his TikTok channel is about, and that's not why I asked him to be my guest. As BrothermanJoe, his charismatic and upbeat persona brings thousands of viewers (including me) to his videos for his regular features like "3 Good Things Thursday" and "Fridays with Mom". Joe's close relationship with his 96 year old mother is one of the hallmarks of his videos, and one of the many things that's endeared him to me. While Joe's mother lives a few doors down from him, my mother and I share a home (she's upstairs, I'm downstairs).  In today's episode, Joe and I talk about having strong relationships with our elders as we all age.     Welcome to the seventh episode of the second season of my podcast, Empower Your Magical Self. My hope is that it will make you consider something you've never thought of before, or think of something in a new way.  Like the majority of my guests, I became aware of today's guest through social media and quickly became a fangirl. I'm so happy that Jazmine (aka Witchyy Addams) is joining me today on my podcast for her FIRST EVER INTERVIEW.  I'm very fortunate - we've struck up a friendship (or maybe she just didn't avoid my attempts at friendship) and I admire her and the way her mind works so much. Maybe it's because we're both autistic witches. I've literally had dreams wherein she was helping me sort vague dream things out in that gauzy way that dreams are, and I really do adore Jazmine.  Jazmine, in my mind, is kind of a sage. But she refers to herself as a Spiritualist, and I think that's marvelous. She's undeniably gifted.  You may notice that I'm not in my usual spot during this podcast. That's because I was still hobbled from my broken leg and I needed to be in my Reiki room immediately after we recorded: Jazmine and I traded virtual services that week and it was delightful.  In return for 30 minutes of virtual Reiki from me, Jazmine gifted me with a truly beautiful and very thorough reading. I fell in love with Sarah after hearing her a few years back on Between the Worlds, the podcast of another of my heroes (and guest earlier this season), Amanda Yates Garcia.  I have a very clear memory of hearing Sarah say in that interview that she never really has to make decisions because she simply follows the leadership of her Guides. I remember that so clearly because it inspired me to get to know my own Guides, and that's been the single most impactful development in my life. That's why Sarah is so very important to me.  There's a funny twist to that story, but you'll have to listen to the episode to find out what it is.  Sarah is a "color witch," and we talk about what that means during the episode.
