    My Personal God: My King

    by David Chadwick In case you haven't picked up on it yet, the eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, personal friend. King David knew this all too well. He didn't just see God as a far-off, cosmic deity. He encountered him as his steadfast love, his shield, and his deliverer. Like King David, God also wants you to know him as your "King" (Psalm 2:6). Do you know why? Because that is exactly who he is - the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. An earthly king rules faithfully and absolutely over every part of his kingdom. His confidence is unwavering because nothing is outside of his sovereign control. Every decision is decided and decreed by the king. God is the ultimate King. Psalm 93:1 says he is robed in majesty, armed with strength, and that he reigns! There is no one like him. But there's more. Earthly kings may have a strong presence. But God is omnipresent - he is everywhere! Earthly kings may be wise. But God is omniscient - he knows everything! Every morsel of wisdom comes from him. Earthly kings are powerful rulers. But God is omnipotent - His power is infinite! He is outside of time, all-knowing, and all-powerful! Think about it this way: If one atom is outside God's control, then every atom is outside his control. Why? Because God oversees ALL. And all means all. God is the King of your life - working all things for good to fulfill your role in his Kingdom. Do you know God as your personal King? Pray to him today, "Lord you are my King and the ruler of the universe! You are the only ruler of my life. Help me kneel to your authority. I want to fulfill the plans you have for me in your Kingdom. And I want to trust you with everything in my life." What an incredible reality for you to be reminded of today: The sovereign King of the universe is your personal God. Rest in that truth!

    My Personal God: My Deliverer

    by David Chadwick God is our refuge and strength. He wants to be a very present help to us in times of trouble (Psalm 46:1). He desires to have a close and personal relationship with each one of his children. King David also describes his relationship with God by calling him "my deliverer" (Psalm 18:2)? We, too, are invited into that kind of personal relationship where we know God the same way. God wants to protect you and keep you. He wants to give you peace and to deliver you from your enemies. Jesus said this to us in John 16:33: "In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world." We are going to face problems in this world. And every single one of us will experience enemies. Satan is the most obvious enemy. He is the evil one assigned to relentlessly pursue us. He wants to control our lives, use us as his pawn, trap us in sin, and keep us in a prison of discouragement and despair. He desires that we feel entrapped with no hope. But God. Rich in mercy. Abounding in love. He came to set us free! The Lord's gracious gift of mercy delivers us from our sin. When we become entrapped, overwhelmed or burdened, turn to Jesus. He forgives us and sets us free, washing away our mistakes and giving us new life and hope. Jesus said to pray like this: "Deliver us from evil" (Matthew 6:13). Do you know God as your deliverer? Today, confess your heart to the Lord: "Father, I'm a sinner. Thank you for your gift of grace. Daddy, deliver me from evil - both from enemies who are after me and from my own fleshly desires. You are my deliverer and I love you!" In this life, you will have many afflictions and enemies, but the Lord will deliver. The victory of Jesus has overcome the world.

    My Personal God: My Stronghold

    by David Chadwick As Christians, we serve a personal God. He is close to us in times of trouble. He is our salvation and our light. In him, we find perfect peace and protection. God is also our personal stronghold (Psalm 18:2). You can run into his arms to find rest. As your stronghold, he will guard and protect you as any loving Daddy should. Picture a citadel guarded by strong ramparts. Perhaps a moat surrounding the stronghold, filled with water. That is who our great God is! He is a personal citadel. A strong place of refuge and our first line of defense. The Creator of the world offers protection to us in times of need and gives us strength far greater than any opponent we will ever face. Romans 8:37 says that we are more than conquerors through Jesus. Because of Jesus, we now have access to an impregnable stronghold. One with walls that are too high to be scaled, a moat too deep to swim through, and weapons too powerful to overcome. Do you know the Lord as your personal stronghold? Do you run to him in times of need? You can run to him, straight into his castle, pull up the drawbridge, and be safe from your pursuing enemy. If not, God wants to reveal himself to you as a stronghold today. He wants to take hold of your life and show you his strength. Join me in praying this prayer: "Lord, you are my stronghold! In you, I take refuge and find retreat from the cares of this world. I can run into your arms and am promised to find rest and protection. You promise me protection from harm and the ultimate gift of eternal, heavenly peace." Now, run into the arms of your Daddy. And experience your personal God as your forever stronghold.

    My Personal God: My Steadfast Love

    by David Chadwick The eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, intimate, and personal friend. As a hiding place, a shield, and a rock, he has been on a rescue mission for all of time to save the world from the curse of sin. God loves the world (John 3:16) and wants everyone to experience his steadfast love and his loving kindness (Psalm 144:2). The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases (Lamentations 3:22-23). The Hebrew word for steadfast love is "hesed." It is a love based on covenant commitment, not  a contract. God's "hesed" love is a love that is loyal and faithful. It never ends. Even when we fail and flee, God is faithful to persist in love and pursue us to return to Him. Since he made the covenant, he will always honor it. Exodus 34:6-7 uses the word "hesed" and says, "The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast "hesed" for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin… to the third and the fourth generation." For a moment, picture a rushing river that flows relentlessly no matter what. If you were to dam it up, it would find a way to keep flowing. Obstacles and barriers would not be able to stop its flow. This is how God's steadfast love is toward you. A never-ending love that keeps flowing. It never gives up. Have you had an encounter with the steadfast love of a personal God? If not, today is the day to ask God to show you his steadfast love. Pray with me today: "Daddy, thank you for the gift of your steadfast love. Your loving kindness is meant to transform me. Thank you for the cross. It is big enough to cover all my sins. Your love endures forever." Enjoy the steadfast love of a personal God. It is a love that is extended to all generations and never runs out!

    My Personal God: My Shield

    by David Chadwick In this world, there are really only two religions: either you are saved by grace or you are saved by your good works. Christianity is the only world religion with a personal God who left the splendor of heaven to radically pursue a love relationship with this broken world. You have a loving Daddy who wants to be your light and salvation. He also wants to be your shield. When you are surrounded by enemies, he wants you to turn to him for protection. King David did this on a regular basis. He recognized God was his ultimate protector and knew God personally as his "shield" (Psalm 18:2). A soldier uses a shield to protect the entire body from attack. A shield is a defensive weapon that guards the body from harm and destruction. In the New Testament, Paul describes the supernatural armor God has given his followers. One of the pieces of armor is the "shield of faith." Why would we need a shield of faith? Because a strong faith protects us from the enemy's flaming arrows. A Roman shield in that day would cover the entire human body. No arrow from the enemy could pierce the shield. Even when "bad" things happen, God promises to use everything for good (Genesis 50:20, Romans 8:28). He is a restorer of the brokenhearted and he promises to bring beauty from ashes (Isaiah 61:3). Do you know God as your personal shield? Say to him today, "Daddy, thank you for being my protector. My defender. My shield of faith. Though I may not always see the enemy's arrows coming toward me, I am confident that you protect me. You are always able to see what I cannot see and you promise that no weapon formed against me will prosper (Isaiah 54:17)." Seek to know the God of creation as your personal shield. You have no reason to ever be afraid.

    My Personal God: My Heritage

    by David Chadwick The eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, personal friend. He wants to be your light. Your salvation. Your hiding place. He desires to have a personal relationship with you. Did you know that the testimonies you collect because of God's personal and sovereign guidance over your life is your heritage? King David wrote in Psalm 119:111, "Your testimonies are my heritage forever, for they are the joy of my heart." Biblically speaking, "heritage" is the legacy passed down from one generation through the next because of a covenant or birthright. The Bible is full of stories where God moves on behalf of his people. These collective testimonies of God's faithfulness become our heritage. The heartbeat of our personal God is to establish the heritage of his faithfulness in our lives: times when his angel armies protected you, times when he supernaturally provided for you, moments where his sovereign hand made a way in an otherwise impossible situation. These "God stories" become our heritage as we form memories about his faithfulness to each one of us. As we remember how God came through for us, we become encouraged to believe that he will come through for us again and again.  They are stories that we can pass on to our kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids until Jesus returns. That is a great example of Godly heritage. Give thanks today to your personal God by saying to him, "Daddy, I am thankful to know that my heritage comes from you. Help me to use my testimony to encourage others in my life with stories of how you have changed me, sustained me, and provided for me over and over. You came through for me once and you can do it again!" In a world that so easily forgets, may we remember God's heritage in our lives!

    My Personal God: My Hiding Place

    by David Chadwick The eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, personal friend. He wants you to know him as your portion, your salvation, your light. He is also your hiding place (Psalm 119:114). God wants you to run into his arms when you are shaken, when tragedy hits, and when hard times become insurmountable. Think about the children's game "hide and seek." When you play this game, you don't want anyone to find you. God, on the other hand, WANTS you to find him. He wants to seek after you, find you, and invite you into his family where he waits with open arms. He wants to save you, redeem you, transform you, and love you forever. The Bible says that Jesus came to seek and save what was lost (Luke 19:10). His grace pursues us. When our sinful nature wants to hide, our Daddy in heaven wants to find us. His grace covers us and his presence becomes a place in which we can hide in times of trouble. With God as our hiding place, we are fully protected. We are now hidden in Christ (Colossians 3:3) and his love surrounds us on all sides like a protective bubble. His protection is stronger than any force of darkness on the earth. Perhaps the enemy of our soul can't even find us when we run to Jesus and make him our hiding place. Are you aware that you have a loving Daddy whose arms you can safely hide in? Today, say to Him: "Lord, you are my hiding place. You are where I run in times of trouble. Your steadfast protection keeps me safe from things both seen and unseen. You are my personal God!" Quit running! Let the Lord find you and hide yourself in him. Your personal God will forever be your hiding place.

    My Personal God: My Salvation

    by David Chadwick The eternal God of the universe wants to be your close, personal friend. He is not a distant God. Psalm 34:18 says that God is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. King David knew the Lord in so many personal ways. He knew him as his song, his portion, and his light. And also as his salvation. Psalm 27:1 says, "The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?" The term "salvation" in Scripture means to be saved from our sins and forgiven by God. Because of Jesus, we have been offered the free gift of eternal life (Romans 6:23). Visually speaking, salvation also represents a wide, open place. A place where our feet can be secure. Where we can freely walk and run without any fear of tripping or falling. Salvation is also a new beginning. A rebirth into a new identity in Christ. A fresh start. A completed work in which our sins are forgiven. Our slate has been forever wiped clean. A loving Daddy has chosen us and promises to never forsake us no matter what! Do you know God as your salvation? If not, join me today in praying, "Daddy, show me the joy of salvation. Please remind me that no matter what I do, I know I am loved by you. Jesus paid it all for me when he died on the cross. As your child, I can confidently know that you make all things new. I walk in wide, open spaces, never being fearful of tripping and falling. Putting my trust in Jesus means an eternity in heaven with You. God, you are the only one able to keep me from falling." The Lord is your salvation. Don't ever be afraid.
