081 The Power of Fear: Who really is in control?

Manifestation Therapy® and Coaching Podcast | With Judy Hawley, MSW, RSW Fear and anxiety are not inherently bad. They are important emotions that provide information, prepare us for danger, and support our survival. But what happens when fear begins to influence what we believe, how we behave, and the decisions we make? In this episode, I explore fear and anxiety through the lenses of neuroscience, trauma, psychology, spirituality, and conscious awareness. We look at how our brains learn from previous experiences, how our nervous systems respond to perceived threats, and why an emotion can feel completely real even when the prediction attached to it may not be true. This is where discernment becomes so important.I share personal experiences that have shaped my understanding of fear, faith, authority, and the importance of questioning what we're told. We explore why discernment doesn't mean automatically trusting. We also dive into ADHD, rumination, and our relationship with uncertainty. Because the goal isn't to eliminate fear. It's to understand what fear is communicating without automatically allowing it to determine how we live. In This Episode, We Explore The difference between fear and anxiety, and why both emotions have important messages. How trauma, attachment, past experiences, and nervous system responses influence our perception of danger. How constant exposure to news, social media, and predictions about the future can influence our emotional and physiological responses. Why discernment requires an open mind, critical thinking, and a willingness to question our own beliefs. How ADHD, hyperfocus, rumination, and the need for certainty can interact with anxiety. The difference between intuition, trauma responses, subconscious pattern recognition, and fear. Why present-moment awareness doesn't mean ignoring genuine problems or avoiding meaningful action.Using the four N's Name, Notice, Normalize, and Nurture; to explore emotional experiences. Episode Chapters 00:00 — Understanding fear and anxiety differently 01:47 — How past trauma can shape our perception of danger 13:26 — Facts, opinions, journalism, and discernment 19:23 — Religion, fear, faith, and spiritual connection 35:50 — Fear-based marketing and social media 43:42 — Anxiety and the need for certainty 44:26 — ADHD, rumination, and overthinking 51:52 — Returning to the present moment without becoming passive 55:10 — Spiritual exploration and questioning our beliefs57:13 — Fear-based manifestation and the pressure to remain positive 59:25 — The four N's: Name, Notice, Normalize, Nurture 01:05:12 — How much of today are we giving away to tomorrow? 01:06:39 — Release → Regulate → Align → Manifest 01:09:15 — Learning to move forward without absolute certainty A Question to ConsiderHow much of the life you have today are you willing to give away to fear about tomorrow? 080: Medium Blessings with Andrew Spirit: Mediumship, Meditation and Learning to Live

What happens when spiritual abilities begin to emerge later in life and how do you learn to trust what you're experiencing while still staying grounded in the physical world? In this episode of the Manifestation Therapy® Podcast, Judy Hawley sits down with Andrew Spirit of Medium Blessings, a psychic medium, intuitive Reiki practitioner, spiritual mentor and teacher from Brockville, Ontario. Andrew describes himself as a “late bloomer” whose spiritual development began at 35 when he joined a meditation circle simply hoping to quiet his mind and find some peace. Instead, he began discovering abilities he hadn't previously recognized. Judy and Andrew explore what it can mean to develop intuitive and mediumistic abilities while continuing to live a grounded, everyday life. Andrew shares his experiences with clairvoyance and claircognizance, the importance of mentorship and spiritual development, and why he believes we don't have to choose between the spiritual and physical worlds we can learn to be present in both. They also discuss meditation as a practice for developing greater awareness of our thoughts, calming the mind and connecting more deeply with ourselves. Andrew offers an interesting perspective on the ego: rather than trying to crush, destroy or eliminate it, he believes the work is learning to “tame” it so that our thinking mind works with us rather than continually managing us. In this episode, we explore: Andrew's unexpected journey into psychic mediumship and spiritual developmentClairvoyance, claircognizance and different ways intuitive information may be experiencedThe challenge of being authentic about spiritual beliefs while still feeling connected to everyday societyGrounding, exercise, nature and protecting your peaceWhy self-awareness and knowing yourself matterBalancing spirituality with being present in the physical worldMoving from simply surviving to actually livingMediumship as a source of connection, guidance and closureThe importance of mentorship when developing spiritual abilitiesMeditation as a daily spiritual and self-awareness practiceWhy meditation doesn't require having a completely blank mindWorking with the ego rather than trying to destroy itDeveloping what Andrew calls the “psychic muscle” through consistencySpiritual development, intuitive Reiki and connecting with Spirit Andrew also offers a spontaneous collective message for listeners about creating a regular meditation practice even if you begin with only five minutes a day. His message is less about meditating perfectly and more about consistently creating space to observe your mind, reconnect with yourself and become more intentional about where you place your attention. And toward the end of the conversation, Andrew turns the reading toward Judy, sharing a personal message involving a canary spirit animal, expression, visibility and using her voice more fully. 079: Shame Is Not Accountability: How to Take Responsibility Without Betraying Yourself

What is the difference between shame, guilt and accountability and why does it matter for trauma healing, relationships and personal growth? We often assume that feeling terrible about something we have done means we are holding ourselves accountable. But shame can actually pull us away from accountability by turning a behaviour or mistake into an identity: I didn’t just do something wrong, there is something wrong with me. In this episode of the Manifestation Therapy® and Coaching Podcast, Judy Hawley, MSW, RSW, BSDS, trauma therapist and transformational coach, explores how shame, guilt and accountability function differently, particularly for people with histories of trauma, criticism, emotional invalidation, ADHD, people-pleasing or perfectionism.  You’ll explore why healthy guilt can provide information about your values and behaviour without defining who you are and why feeling guilty does not automatically mean you have done something wrong. Sometimes guilt arises simply because you are setting a boundary, saying no or changing an old pattern.  Judy also explores what real accountability can look like: acknowledging what happened, understanding your impact, making repair when necessary, changing behaviour and sometimes accepting consequences without requiring endless self-punishment. Key Notes: From a trauma-informed perspective, understanding why a behaviour developed matters but understanding does not automatically excuse its impact. A pattern may once have protected you and still cause harm today. Healing allows room for both compassion and responsibility. Judy brings the conversation through the Manifestation Therapy® framework of Release, Regulate, Align and Manifest, as well as the Four N’s: Name, Notice, Normalize and Nurture, to explore how we can stay connected to ourselves while taking meaningful responsibility for our choices.  In this episode: The difference between shame, guilt and accountabilityHow shame can become tied to identity and self-worthTrauma, ADHD, rejection and internalized shameWhy guilt can be useful—but isn’t always accurateBoundaries and conditioned guiltWhy trauma can explain behaviour without excusing itSelf-compassion versus self-punishmentTaking responsibility without abandoning yourselfRelease → Regulate → Align → ManifestThe Four N’s: Name, Notice, Normalize and NurtureUsing emotions as information rather than identity Key takeaway: Shame says, “I am the problem.” Guilt can tell me, “Something needs my attention.” Accountability says, “Now that I understand it, what am I going to do about it?” Manifestation Therapy® Where Science Meets Soul. 078 A Gratitude Meditation: Self-Acceptance, Self Love and Appreciation for who you are

Deep Gratitude: A Guided Meditation for Your Body, Your Life & Yourself In this guided meditation, Judy invites you to slow down, reconnect with your body, and experience gratitude not simply as something you think about but something you can feel and embody. Through gentle breathing, a full-body gratitude scan, self-acceptance and reflection, you'll be guided to notice the extraordinary ways your body has carried, protected and supported you throughout your life. This meditation explores gratitude for your body, your experiences, the different versions of yourself you've been, and the person you are becoming. You'll be invited to: Settle into your body and the present moment Move through a gentle body scan with intentional gratitude Appreciate your body for what it does rather than how it looks Meet past and present versions of yourself with greater compassion Release some of the pressure to be perfect Practice self-acceptance without giving up growth Recognize the ways you've adapted, survived, learned and changed Allow gratitude to extend inward—to yourself Self-love doesn't require believing everything about yourself is perfect. You can recognize where you want to grow while still loving the person who is growing. You can want something different for your future without making who you are today insufficient. Find somewhere comfortable, give yourself permission to simply receive, and join me for this practice of deep gratitude, self-love and acceptance. 077 ADHD and Time Blindness Why knowing is not the same as doing

Why can someone with ADHD know they need to leave in 15 minutes—and still struggle to leave on time? In this episode, Judy Hawley, MSW, RSW explores ADHD and time blindness: the difficulty sensing, estimating, organizing and responding to time. Time blindness isn't about not caring, being irresponsible or simply needing to “try harder.” For many ADHD brains, time can be difficult to perceive until something becomes immediate. Knowing is not the same as doing. Key Notes Judy explores the distinction between understanding of time management, and actually being successful with organizing time around the tasks you are focused on.Throughout the episode, Judy explores how to use specific strategies to anticipate the big picture of time management as opposed to the end focus point of being somewhere on time, successfully completing assignments and the need for removing the judgement from time management with neurodivergence. Having ADHD doesn't mean our behaviour doesn't affect other people. If we repeatedly arrive late and inconvenience someone, ADHD may explain why the behaviour is happening, but it doesn't erase its impact. Accountability still matters. But accountability and shame are not the same thing. Rather than demanding that an ADHD brain simply function differently, we can ask: What systems can I build that work with my brain and still allow me to take responsibility for my behaviour? Because you cannot see 15 minutes. For many people with ADHD, time needs to become external and visible. Sometimes the behaviour you've spent years judging becomes much easier to change once you understand what has been driving it. In This Episode Why ADHD can create a sense of “now” versus “not now”Why a deadline three weeks away may not create urgency until it is suddenly very closeThe difference between understanding time intellectually and experiencing it internallyHow procrastination and last-minute urgency can become part of the ADHD cycleWhy repeatedly criticizing executive functioning difficulties doesn't make executive functioning more effectiveThe difference between accountability and shameWhy ADHD can explain behaviour without eliminating responsibility for its impactHow to externalize time using visual timers, labelled alarms, transition cues and other supportsWhy tracking how long things actually take can be more useful than guessing how long they should takeHow curiosity can support change more effectively than self-judgment Take with you:F or one week, don't begin by trying to fix your time management. Study it. Notice how long getting ready actually takes. How long transitions take. Where you lose time. What creates urgency. What makes starting easier. What happens when you're deeply engaged in something. Replace judgment with curiosity and start gathering information about how your brain actually experiences time. 076 What I Actually Do: Inside Manifestation Therapy® and Coaching with Judy Hawley

What if the pattern you keep trying to eliminate isn’t actually the problem? What if procrastination, perfectionism, people-pleasing, shutting down, overthinking, hyper-independence, or even fear of success developed because some part of your system learned that these behaviours offered protection? In this episode, Judy answers one of the questions she is asked most often: What exactly do you do? The answer goes far beyond one therapeutic modality. Judy shares how nearly two decades of work across mental health, addictions, trauma, crisis intervention, families, schools, forensic settings, psychotherapy and coaching shaped an approach that looks at the whole person; brain, body, nervous system, thoughts, emotions, behaviour, attachment, relationships, identity, spirituality, energy and purpose. Key Notes Judy explores the distinction she makes between being trauma-informed and trauma-educated, and why understanding why a pattern developed can be just as important as changing it. Rather than beginning with “How do we get rid of this?”, her work begins with curiosity: What is your system trying to accomplish or protect? Throughout the episode, Judy explores how she integrates approaches including IFS/parts work, CBT, DBT, emotionally focused and attachment-based work, Brainspotting, elements of EMDR, motivational interviewing, ACT, nervous-system work, neurodivergence and ADHD-informed approaches, alongside spirituality, energetics and the 12 Universal Principles. She also introduces the pathway at the heart of Manifestation Therapy®: Release → Regulate → Align → Manifest Release what no longer needs to be carried. Regulate so expansion does not automatically register as danger. Align thoughts, behaviour, identity, relationships, values and purpose with what you are creating. Manifest through conscious creation, embodiment and action.Because manifestation isn't simply positive thinking, affirmations or creating a vision board. It requires understanding what happens internally when you move toward the very thing you say you want. In This Episode Why behaviour makes more sense when we understand what came before itHow protective patterns can masquerade as self-sabotageTrauma-informed versus Judy's concept of trauma-educated practiceWhy different brains require different approaches, particularly with ADHD and neurodivergenceHow IFS, CBT, DBT, Brainspotting, attachment work and other modalities can work togetherThe relationship between the nervous system and our capacity for expansionHow spirituality and psychology can coexist without spiritual bypassingThe role of the 12 Universal Principles within Manifestation Therapy® A question to take with you: What if the part of you that seems to be standing in your way isn't trying to sabotage you, but has been trying to protect you? You cannot sustainably create a new reality while remaining unconsciously organized around the old one.Release. Regulate. Align. Manifest. 075 Ashley Patino on Healing Through the Akashic Records and Returning to Self

In this episode, I’m joined by Ashley Patino, healer and host of Life After an Ego Death, to talk about spiritual awakening, ego death, energy, intuition and finding your way back to yourself. Ashley shares her rapid awakening and how it led her into Kundalini energy, the Akashic Records, channeling and supporting others through their own spiritual journeys. Key Notes Ashley’s spiritual journey accelerated around her Saturn return at 29, when she realized she was no longer living in alignment with herself. What followed was a rapid spiritual and Kundalini awakening and an exploration of energy healing, the Akashic Records, channeling, meditation and intuitive development. One of the biggest themes in our conversation is learning to trust ourselves while still taking responsibility for our own healing. We talk about boundaries, consent, energetic protection, listening to the body, taking action toward what we want, closing old cycles and allowing ourselves to be in the uncomfortable space between what was and whatever comes next. In This Episode • Spiritual awakening and ego death • Kundalini awakening and the Saturn return • Akashic Records, channeling and intuition • Energy healing, protection and boundaries • Consent and personal responsibility in healing • Manifestation, intention and taking action • Listening to your body and nervous system • Closing cycles and “energy leaks” • Rest, expansion and different seasons of life • Learning to trust the liminal space between endings and new beginnings • Ashley’s Life After an Ego Death podcast • Bringing mind, body, energy and spirit into alignment Connect with Ashley: Instagram: @rainbowhawkwomyn Podcast: Life After an Ego Death on Spotify and Apple Podcasts Connect with Judy 🌐 www.manifestationtherapy.com 📸 Instagram: @manifestationtherapy 🎙️ The Manifestation Therapy Podcast 📘 Manifestation Therapy®: Universal Principles in Supportive Practice

074 Spiritual Awakening Redefined: Maybe we do not remove the ego, just find acceptance for all of who we are.

What if you don’t feel spiritually awakened because you’re looking for the wrong things? Spiritual awakening has become almost competitive. Visions. Kundalini energy. Synchronicities. Repeating numbers. Intuition. Spirit guides. Dark nights of the soul. Extraordinary experiences can absolutely be meaningful, but they may not be the measure of how spiritually awakened you actually are. In this episode, I explore what spiritual awakening has meant across different traditions, including Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, Taoism, Christian mysticism, Sufism, Kundalini traditions, and Indigenous and shamanic approaches. While these traditions are distinct and shouldn't be collapsed into one belief system, many raise fascinating questions about consciousness, ego, identity, suffering, connection and what it means to awaken. I also bring the conversation into psychology, trauma healing, attachment, neuroscience and somatic work. Because awakening may not be about escaping your human experience at all. It may involve becoming conscious enough to actually be present within it. We talk about spiritual bypassing, why emotions like anger, grief, fear and jealousy aren't evidence that you're “low vibration,” and why healing isn't about immediately turning uncomfortable emotions into positive ones. I share my 4 N's: Name, Notice, Normalize and Nurture, and how they can help us process emotion without suppressing it or allowing it to control what happens next. I also explore something we don't talk about enough: attachment and spirituality. When we suddenly stop feeling connected, seeing signs or having powerful spiritual experiences, we may wonder whether we're blocked, being punished or have somehow lost our connection. But sometimes our attachment system may be responding to the perceived loss of connection and reassurance. And finally, we bring it back to manifestation and alignment. You can consciously want something while another part of you is terrified of it. Your body can contract around it. Your nervous system can experience the required change as unsafe. Your attachment system can associate becoming someone different with losing belonging. Alignment isn't making every part of yourself perfect; it's becoming aware enough that the different layers of you aren't unconsciously fighting one another. Key Takeaways Maybe spiritual awakening isn't about becoming less human so that we can become more spiritual. Maybe it's about becoming present enough within our human experience that we finally have access to all of ourselves — cognitive, emotional, somatic, relational and spiritual — and from there, becoming more capable of experiencing our connection to everything beyond ourselves too. In this episode: What spiritual awakening actually means Buddhism, Advaita Vedanta, Taoism, Christianity and Sufism Kundalini awakening versus spiritual awakening The historical meaning of the Dark Night of the Soul Ego death versus developing a healthy sense of self Trauma, the nervous system and spiritual development Spiritual bypassing and emotional suppression The 4 N's: Name, Notice, Normalize and Nurture Intuition versus nervous-system activation Attachment wounds and our relationship with spirituality Why intense spiritual experiences aren't necessarily evidence of spiritual development Manifestation, alignment and integration What it might really mean to awaken Spiritual awakening isn't a competition. Your awakening doesn't need to look like anyone else's.
