    From NCAA Basketball to Tri-City Flag Football: Martin's Story, S2 Ep 29 Shattered Wisdom Podcast

    From officiating NCAA basketball games to helping grow a youth flag football program, Martin has spent a huge part of his life around sports—but from some very different perspectives. This week on Shattered Wisdom, Jack and Jerett sit down with Martin. We start with his time as an NCAA basketball referee and get into what it's actually like being the person with the whistle. Martin talks about making decisions in a matter of seconds, dealing with coaches and players, handling pressure and criticism, the calls officials sometimes get wrong, and what people watching from the stands don't understand about refereeing. Then we move from the basketball court to the football field. Today, Martin is involved with Tri-City Flag Football League, a growing youth flag football program that's creating opportunities for kids to compete, learn and develop through sports. That opens up a much bigger conversation. We talk about parents on the sidelines, coaching kids, winning vs. development, playing time, sportsmanship, referee shortages, how competitive youth sports should be, and whether adults sometimes make kids' sports more complicated than they need to be. Martin has been an official, he's dealt with coaches and players at a high level, and now he's seeing sports through the world of youth athletics.     In Episode 9 Jack and Jerett are joined by **JJ and Kendrah** for one of the most revealing conversations of the series. Throughout this journey, allegations were made about our family that had very real consequences. In this episode, we're going through those allegations and comparing them with what actually happened, what we personally witnessed, and the reality we experienced behind closed doors. What was alleged? But what REALLY happened? The four of us talk openly about the claims that were made, the events surrounding them, the details that were misunderstood or misrepresented, and what it feels like when an allegation can take on a life of its own.Then, toward the end of the episode, we step outside of our own story and look at the bigger picture.We examine publicly available CPS and child-welfare statistics and discuss the difference between a **report, an allegation, an investigation, and a final finding**—because those terms don't all mean the same thing. Federal NCANDS data actually tracks these stages separately, including referrals that are screened out, reports that are investigated or assessed, and final dispositions such as substantiated, indicated, unsubstantiated, and closed with no finding. Protecting children matters. So does getting the truth right.
