  1. Episode 1

Episode 1: You've Got Gay Blood In You

On this premiere episode of Your Other Mother, I share what it was like to grow up raised by two moms in the 1990s and 2000s. Some terminology you'll hear throughout the episode, for those who may be unfamiliar: "queer" is often used as a synonym for "not heterosexual," although this term has expansive meanings and interpretations. In general, "queer" connotes a rejection of heterosexual norms and expectations, and can be both a description of one's non-heterosexual sexual orientation and a political identity. "Queer" was historically used in English as a slur toward people who were attracted to people of their same gender, and has been reclaimed by non-heterosexual folks as an identity marker and a political orientation."cis" or "cisgender" means identifying with the sex you were assigned at birth. "Cis" is the opposite of ..."trans" or "transgender," meaning identifying as a different sex or gender than the one you were assigned at birth."nonbinary" means not identifying as a binary gender, e.g., woman or man. "Nonbinary" refers to the concept of the gender binary, which posits that there are two opposite genders: male and female. Though this word has expansive meaning, it generally means that a person does not identify with a particular binary gender or does not identify as cisgender. Hosted on Acast. 2. Episode 2

Episode 2: Queer Family-Making in Washington

In this episode, I interview three incredible advocates who have worked in the adoption space in Washington state over the past decades: Washington State Supreme Court Justice Mary Yu, attorney and former court commissioner Eric Watness, and attorney and advocate Barbara Wechsler. We discuss the history of same-sex adoption in Washington state, legislative changes that empowered queer folks to form legal relationships to one another, and what the future might hold for the legal treatment of queer family-making. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  3. Episode 3

Episode 3: What Words To Use

In this (short) episode, I talk about the terms I use throughout the podcast and reflect on the complexities and nuances of the words we use to describe our families and ourselves. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  4. Episode 4

Episode 4: Lucky To Have You As My Mother

A conversation with the incredible Jane (not her real name), a former "sperm broker" for gay women trying to have biological children in the 1980s in the Seattle area. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  5. Episode 5

Episode 5: The Cultural Attaché to Greece

On this episode of Your Other Mother, I talk about depictions of queer families in the media I engaged with in the 1990s and 2000s, including films The Birdcage and The Kids Are All Right, and TV shows Friends and Will & Grace. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  6. Episode 6

Episode 6: A Conversation with Sammy, Part One

  7. Episode 7

Episode 7: A Conversation with Sammy, Part Two

Today's episode is part two of a two-part conversation with my dear friend Sammy, a fellow child of two moms who grew up in the Boston area. 8. Episode 8

Episode 8: A Conversation with Jesse

On this episode, I talk to Jesse, a fellow child of two moms who grew up in the Boston area, and who was the first person I met in adulthood also raised by two moms. It was such a treat to reconnect with Jesse after 10+ years. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

  9. Episode 9

Episode 9: A Conversation with Daisye

This week's conversation is with the inimitable Daisye, for whose wisdom, eloquence, and thoughtfulness I am so grateful. We talk about her experiences coming of age as a lesbian in the early 1990s while also navigating the experience of her mother coming out and entering a relationship with a woman around the same time. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

    Episode 10: You're Our Kid

This very special conversation between my godmothers and me is one of my favorites of the season (okay, aren't they all?!). Many thanks to my sweet aunties for sitting down for this conversation around their own relationships to parenthood as gay women, my growing up, and what the future holds. Hosted on Acast.
