Psychedelics, Psychedelics, Psychedelics! Treatments and the Science

Could psychedelics change the way we understand and treat mental health? From neuroscience to clinical care, these substances are prompting important questions about what we know and what we still have to learn. In this episode, hear Dr. Joshua Rosenblat, a leading psychiatrist and researcher who has conducted trials with psychedelics for depression, bipolar disorder, end-of-life care, and personality disorders. Host Dr. Nirushi Kuhathasan explores the science behind psychedelics and their potential role in treatment with Dr. Rosenblat, who is also a clinician-scientist and associate professor at the University of Toronto, based at the University Health Network. Together, they discuss how psychedelics affect the brain, what research tells us about their use in mental health care, and how our understanding of these substances continues to evolve. Tune in for a closer look at where the science stands and what the future could hold for psychedelic care in Canada.   Additional Reading: Insights on Psilocybin for Clinicians: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2853938 Insights on Psilocybin for Patients: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2854042 Ketamine for Bipolar Depression: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/2853662 Blinding in Psychedelic Clinical Trials: https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jamapsychiatry/fullarticle/2847667   Host: Dr. Nirushi Kuhathasan Guests: Dr. Joshua Rosenblat Producers: Dr. Sagar Parikh & Dr. Nirushi Kuhathasan Audio Editor: Serhii Artiukh Music: Teamwork by scottholmesmusic.com
