Colompton Beer Club #274- Smooth Criminals

This week, we start by fantasy football, talking draft strategies, players we're targeting, league etiquette, and whether fantasy has made watching the NFL better. With that, we also prep for our fantasy football leagues by setting up the draft order by drawing names out of a hat. Nothing fancy. We look ahead to the 2027 Pro Football Hall of Fame class and discuss what really separates a Hall of Famer from a player who was simply great during his era. From there, we get into the WNBA after a coach came under fire for defending an opposing player's hard foul on Sophie Cunningham, raising the question of whether a coach should always publicly have their player's back. Then things get a little more unsettling as we talk about the growing surveillance state in America, including Flock license-plate cameras, AI tracking, and a report involving Snapchat AI flagging a private conversation to the FBI. How much privacy are we willing to surrender in exchange for safety and convenience? Dante shares his thoughts on the 2026 Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, including Jaafar Jackson's performance, the music, Michael's cultural impact, and whether the modern music biopic formula is starting to wear thin. Of course, it wouldn't be the Beer Club without the beer. This week we're sipping on and reviewing Ridge Runner from Breckenridge Brewery and Small Batch IPA Rotator IPA from Great Lakes Brewing Co. And we close things out with a round of Rapid Fire Questions covering fantasy football, privacy, AI, embarrassing search histories, and plenty of other nonsense. Grab a beer and join the club. 🍻

Colompton Beer Club #270- The Best One, Yet

This week, we break down the aftermath of UFC 329. We discuss Paddy Pimblett's performance against Benoit Saint Denis, what the result means for both fighters, and where Conor McGregor and Max Holloway go after their highly anticipated showdown. From there, we head to the NFL to talk about Aaron Donald's potential return to the Los Angeles Rams, the Seattle Seahawks' record-setting $9.6 billion sale, and which NFL Draft classes have produced the most playoff success since 2015. We also dive into the World Cup Final between Argentina and Spain, discussing the biggest moments from the World Cup tournament and what it means for international soccer moving forward. Outside of sports, we explore one of our favorite conversations of the episode: how movie studios create unforgettable marketing campaigns. From The Blair Witch Project convincing audiences it was real, to Smile placing creepy actors at sporting events, Barbie becoming a cultural event, and the immersive marketing behind Obsession, we look at how studios blur the line between advertising and experience. Plus, we ask why smartphones got rid of the headphone jack, react to an unforgettable arrest involving the phrase "Raise My Balls Up," talk about permanent Daylight Saving Time, discuss a neighborhood argument over kids spraying water, and wrap things up with "Questions to Ask Your Friends." Grab your favorite drink and join us as we sip on and review Brau Buddies by Lakefront Brewery and Vanilla Barrel Cream Ale by Alltech's Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. while discussing sports, movies, technology, and ridiculous internet stories.
