Just An Average Citizen Podcast 71 | Why Your Voice Matters Between Elections

What’s happening in Abilene and the Big Country—and how can ordinary citizens make a difference? In this episode of Just An Average Citizen, I’m sharing why I’m refocusing this podcast on helping citizens understand local issues, find the facts, and stay engaged with the people elected to represent them. We’ll discuss: Why citizen involvement matters: Our responsibility doesn’t end when we vote. Staying informed and communicating with elected officials matters between elections, too. The Abilene firefighter ballot propositions: Why collective bargaining and arbitration are on the ballot, and the contract negotiation dispute that led to this issue. Accountability and transparency: Why citizens should ask questions, follow public decisions, and expect clear answers from their elected officials. Preparing to vote: How to research candidates, review their records and positions, and make informed choices at the ballot box. My goal isn’t to tell you to stop thinking for yourself. It’s to help you find information, understand the issues, and decide where you stand. Because local decisions affect our communities—and an informed, engaged citizenry is essential to making our system work as intended. Subscribe to Just An Average Citizen for conversations and information about the issues that matter in Abilene and the Big Country. Inform. Educate. Empower. #JustAnAverageCitizen #AbileneTexas #BigCountry #CivicEngagement #LocalGovernment #InformedCitizens
