Stop Bullying With A Calm Brain:How Parents & Teachers Can Help Kids Report Bullying Safely

Send us Fan Mail Bullying rarely ends with a clever comeback, it ends when a kid finally feels safe enough to tell the truth and an adult actually steps in. We talk through what keeps children silent, including fear of retaliation, shame, and the painful experience of being brushed off with “work it out.” When kids don’t feel safe, their brains can’t focus, learn, or make good choices, so we treat safety as the bedrock, not a bonus.  Together, we share real stories and practical bullying prevention strategies for parents, teachers, and caregivers. We unpack why “stand up to the bully” can backfire and even teach “might makes right,” and we explain what works better: calm listening, quick advocacy, and a clear plan that brings a team around the child. We also get into how to build a culture that reduces bullying before it starts: consistent rules, active supervision, and adults modeling respect in everyday moments. We discuss cliques and exclusion, how peer culture can shut bullying down, and why home-school communication matters, especially when cyberbullying and social media spill conflict across every setting. Finally, we tackle the hard question of what to do when you find out your child is the one bullying, including consequences, increased supervision, and guiding them toward insight and empathy. Subscribe for more brain-based parenting help, share this with a parent or teacher who needs it, and leave a review so more families can find these tools. Bullying Is About Power, Not Just Mean Words: Recognizing Bullying and What Parents Can Do

Send us Fan Mail Bullying rarely looks like the movie version, and that’s exactly why it can do so much damage before an adult ever notices. We start a new Brain-Based Parenting series by getting painfully specific about what bullying is and what it is not, so you can stop guessing and start seeing the patterns that matter: intentional harm, repetition, and a power imbalance. Today we walk through the major types of bullying parents and caregivers need to recognize: physical bullying that can be subtle, verbal bullying that sticks for years, social bullying that weaponizes exclusion, and cyberbullying that follows kids home through group chats, anonymous apps, and constant notifications. We also tackle hazing and why “initiation” often equals humiliation, especially when a child’s need to belong gets used against them. Then we shift to practical parenting: warning signs your child might be targeted, how to tell normal peer conflict from one-sided bullying, why some bullies look like angels around adults, and how social media changes the speed and scale of harm. If you want clearer bullying prevention tools, better conversations at home, and a stronger sense of what to do next, this one will help. When Kids Fight: How Adults Step In Without Making It Worse

Send us Fan Mail Kid conflict can flip a room from calm to chaos in seconds and the hardest part is knowing whether to step in, stay out, or slow everything down. We talk through what to look for when a disagreement turns into a real conflict, including the “emotional temperature” check: can they regulate, stay respectful, and disengage, or are they escalating into sarcasm, personal attacks, and dysregulation? We share practical conflict resolution tools for parents, teachers, and caregivers who want safer, more respectful outcomes. That includes intervening early when you see power imbalances or a history of escalation, bringing in other adults when the story has missing pieces or safety is involved, and handling sibling conflict with a mix of supervision and skill-building. We also dig into why coaching works best before the blowup, using modeling, role play, rehearsal, and simple “game film” reflection after you’ve observed what really happened. You’ll also hear language kids can use to stand up for themselves without pouring gasoline on the problem, like curiosity-based statements and clear boundaries. We close with what adults should avoid doing in heated moments, from intimidating body language to emotion-invalidation, and why staying neutral is often the difference between stopping a fight and actually resolving it. Calm In The Middle Of Conflict: Conflict Can Build Trust When You Repair.

Send us Fan Mail Conflict at home can feel like a five-alarm fire, but it’s often a clue about something deeper: a need, a fear, or a value getting rubbed the wrong way. We sit down to talk conflict and conflict resolution through a brain-based parenting lens, starting with the real-life ways people respond under stress, fight, flight, freeze, or even the “pause” that buys us time to choose a better response. Today we unpack what conflict actually is, when it helps, and when it harms. We explore how respectful disagreement can build clarity and strengthen relationships, while disrespect and malintent can do lasting damage. Along the way, we connect the dots between conflict and core human needs like safety, belonging, and purpose, and why our emotional brain takes over the moment we feel threatened. We also get practical about kids and teens. We talk why young kids fight when they can’t communicate, why elementary-age kids collide with new expectations and new value systems at school, and why teen conflict is so intense when independence, embarrassment, and fear are in the driver’s seat. Then we compare sibling conflict versus peer conflict, what “normal” sibling rivalry looks like, red flags like power imbalances and missing repair, and interventions that help, including supervision, curiosity, and making space for one-on-one connection. Forgiving Your Mistakes:You Will Mess Up as a Parent, and You Can Repair It

Send us Fan Mail That sinking feeling after you overreact, snap, or realize you handled something the hard way can be brutal. The worst part is how quietly it sticks around, replaying in your head and whispering that you are failing your kids. We refuse that story, and we get practical about what to do next. We share real parenting mishaps and why they can feel so heavy, then dig into what is actually happening underneath: high stakes, shame, comparison, and the belief that our kids are a mirror of our worth. We talk about public moments when you feel judged, how to reframe the crowd in your mind, and how to shift from managing appearances to meeting a child’s needs. We also name the pressure social media adds, from perfect houses to nonstop activities, and why guilt-based decisions can drain your time, money, and peace. The heart of the conversation is repair. We break down self-forgiveness as a skill your kids learn by watching you, plus the “redo” strategy that helps you reset after a mistake and rebuild trust. We also cover when to circle back for a calm conversation, how to apologize with humility, and how to ask your child what would help next time. Hope Grows When We Practice Gratitude Daily pt 2

Send us Fan Mail Hope is one of the most underrated parenting tools, and it’s not just a feeling. When kids are dealing with trauma, loss, or ongoing stress, hope can be the difference between shutting down and trying again.  We dig into a memorable story shared by Dr. Bruce Perry that captures how “rescue” changes endurance, then connect it to what parents see every day: kids do better when they believe something better is possible and when they trust the adults around them. We also bring in Viktor Frankl’s perspective on meaning and purpose, because resilience is often less about raw strength and more about having a reason to keep going. From there, we get practical. We talk about gratitude practices that fit into real routines, how anxiety and gratitude compete for attention, and why simple rituals like sharing “highs and lows” can create safety and connection at home. We also challenge the habit of always answering “I’m fine” and explore how healthy vulnerability can unlock support from friends, mentors, and faith communities. If you want brain-based parenting strategies, trauma-informed encouragement, and realistic next steps for family resilience, this conversation is for you. Hope That Holds:The Real Antidote to Despair pt 1

Send us Fan Mail Hope is easy to talk about and hard to hold onto when your child is struggling, withdrawing, or stuck in negative self-talk.  We start by defining hope as more than a wish. Real hope is future-focused and backed by action, which means parents can do more than wait and worry. We unpack the signs a child may be losing hope, from losing interest and energy to having trouble imagining a next chapter. From there we share a simple approach that opens doors instead of starting fights: honest “I notice” statements, curiosity, and giving your child enough agency to talk without feeling judged. We also dig into loneliness and isolation, including the way social media and “echo chambers” can reinforce a teen’s worst beliefs. A key shift is moving from “How do I get my kid to fit in?” to “How do I help my kid feel belonging?” We talk about faith, community support, and meaningful rituals as anchor points in chaotic seasons, plus why kids often receive wisdom better from trusted adults outside the immediate parent-child dynamic. To close, we focus on what restores hope fastest: small measurable wins, specific encouragement, and unconditional love that is not tied to performance.
