Formula F.I.T.T.

Welcome to Coach Eve Radio! Nobody prepares you for how much this life costs your body. Nobody tells you that carrying other people's trauma will eventually show up in yours. And nobody hands you a roadmap for staying healthy, strong, and whole, from the first day you pursue this career to the day you retire. Coach Eve Radio fills that gap. Hosted by Eve Webber, fitness professional, M.S. in Kinesiology, fire service health and wellness director, Sierra College Regional Fire Academy instructor, and firefighter's wife, this show covers the full spectrum of health and wellness across an entire career and a whole life. From the physical demands of the job to the faith that sustains you when the demands get too heavy. Every week: expert guests, real conversations, and actionable tools from someone who has spent nearly 30 years inside the fire service, and who is still doing the work on herself. Faith, function, and the long game. New episodes every week. If this episode helped you — share it with one person who needs to hear it. That is the best thing you can do for this show. 62: From The Vault-Embrace the Suck with Brian Velazquez

What does a decade in the US Army — including time as an infantry soldier and scout sniper — actually prepare you for when you walk into a fire academy at 34 years old with a mortgage, no income, and a class full of recruits half your age?  According to Brian Velasquez, almost everything. In this episode of Coach Eve Radio, Coach Eve sits down with Brian — a 10-year Army veteran, former paramedic, EMT instructor, tactical medicine trainer, and now a newly graduated firefighter — for a conversation that covers the full arc from military service to the firehouse. Brian talks about what the military mindset actually gives you in the fire service, how tactical medicine translates to emergency response when resources are limited, and what it looked like to be the oldest guy in the academy while quietly becoming the one everyone called Dad. They get into the real stuff — what probationary life actually looks like day to day, how to handle constant adaptability when every captain does things differently, why earned praise from a salty senior firefighter after your first commercial fire hits completely differently than being told good job every day, and what it actually means to embrace the suck when things get hard. Brian also talks about leadership without a title, accountability in academy culture, managing the mental load of high-pressure training without burning out on your days off, and the one piece of advice he would give every new recruit walking through those doors.  If you are a veteran considering the fire service, a recruit in the middle of the academy, or someone who wants to understand what separates the people who make it from the people who do not — this conversation is for you.  If this episode helped you — share it with one person who needs to hear it. That is the best thing you can do for this show. 56: So You Want to Be a Firefighter - Every Question You Are Afraid to Ask Answered

If you have been thinking about becoming a firefighter and have no idea where to start, this episode is the one I wish existed when people first started asking me these questions. In this episode of Coach Eve Radio, Coach Eve answers every question she gets asked about getting into the fire service. Not the sanitized version. The real version. What it actually takes physically, what the hiring process actually looks like, whether you need your EMT before the academy, what to eat and how to train, why running five miles every day is not the answer, and what nobody tells you about the difference between getting ready for the academy and getting ready for the job. This episode covers the full arc from figuring out if this career is even a good fit for you, through the application and hiring process, through pre-academy preparation, and into what the academy itself demands. Whether you are completely new to the fire service or have been thinking about this for a while and cannot figure out how to actually get started, this one is built for you.   If this episode helped you, share it with one person who needs to hear it.
