Digger Is Getting Dragged, But I Get It

This week, I'm talking about Digger, the new Tom Cruise film that's been getting dragged by critics — and, for once, I'm here to defend a movie that seemingly everyone else has a problem with. What starts off looking like a story about a billionaire oil tycoon quickly turns into something much stranger, with a twist that completely reframes the film and a satirical, almost theatrical approach that I found genuinely refreshing. I get into the film's many layers, its surprisingly brilliant cinematography, Tom Cruise's performance, and why I think the criticism that it's too sympathetic towards corporate CEOs misses some of the bigger points it's trying to make. Spoilers ahead! We get into the film's biggest reveals and its commentary on climate change, corporate greed, political hypocrisy, and our own complicity in the systems destroying the planet. Plus, it's time for Songs of the Week! I'm talking about Remi Wolf's new album Mud—including my current favourites, “Champagne” and “Burn Blue”—alongside new music from Slayyyter and songs by Dora Jar and Ruby Roberts. As always, you can find all my picks in the monthly playlist on Spotify by searching for The Overshare Pamphlet. See you next Monday at 6am UK time! Zack Cregger Just Saved Resident Evil

Resident Evil is BACK, apparently — and somehow, it’s actually good. This week, I dive into the latest reboot and why Zack Cregger might have finally figured out how to rehabilitate a franchise that has been struggling for years. From its first-person video game-inspired camerawork and genuinely terrifying jump scares to its Gen Z humour, Austin Abrams’ surprisingly perfect protagonist, and its commentary on Big Pharma and corporate greed, there’s a lot to love. Plus, what this could mean for the future of the franchise. Then it’s time for the first Songs of the Week of October, featuring Suicide’s “Dream Baby Dream,” French pop from Louane, a new track from Tinashe, and a legendary velvet underground classic. Basically: scary movies, questionable corporations, great music, and a lot of enthusiastic yelling. Taylor Swift’s Showgirl Dilemma

Taylor Swift is back in the conversation, so naturally I have some thoughts. This week, I’m talking about the four new songs from The Life of a Showgirl: The Encore — “Patient Zero,” “Cleveland,” “Pink Clouding” and “Babylon” — and what they tell us about this era, Taylor’s songwriting, fame, privacy, and the increasingly interesting tension between her personal life and her art. I also get into why I think “Babylon” is the standout of the four, my frustrations with some of the writing on The Life of a Showgirl, and where I think Taylor could go from here. Plus, I share this week’s Songs of the Week You can follow me on Instagram and Threads @robscal.jpg, on TikTok @robscal.com and on Twitter @robscaltweets Get 15% off any product on https://shop.chezsheacustom.com with the code OVERSHAREPAMPHLET

    Ed Sheeran Is Not Neutral

This week on The Overshare Pamphlet, I’m diving into the Ed Sheeran and Macklemore controversy following Macklemore’s speech about Palestine at MetLife Stadium. I talk about what happened behind the scenes, the role of Robert Kraft, Ed Sheeran’s response, and the bigger question of where music, politics, free speech, and celebrity power collide. I also get into the idea of “staying neutral” and whether artists can really separate themselves from politics when they have such massive platforms. And because I can’t spend an entire episode being angry, I finish things off with three Songs of the Week (including a track from Carly Rae Jepsen’s latest album). A messy celebrity controversy, some very strong opinions, and three songs worth adding to your playlist.

2026: The Year Cinema Finally Came Back

Is the cinema officially back? This week, I’m looking at Hollywood’s surprisingly huge year at the box office, from the phenomenon of Spider-Man and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey to the resurgence of horror and what all of this says about the future of theatrical moviegoing in the age of streaming. I’m also looking ahead at the films still to come in 2026, including Resident Evil, Clayface, Prime Time, the Hunger Games prequel, and the absolutely insane December showdown between Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three. Plus, I have some thoughts on why streaming may actually be helping cinema make a comeback, why Jumanji needs to give it a rest, and three Songs of the Week to end the episode. 🛒 Cozy Earth - Luxurious Bamboo Sheets, Pajamas, & More 💰 Get 21% OFF | Promo Code: PAMPHLET https://promocode.to/cozy-earth/oversharepamphlet-slk

Who Is the Best New Artist of 2026?

Who deserves to be crowned Best New Artist of the Year? In today's episode, I run through some of the biggest emerging artists of the moment, from Malcolm Todd and Ella Langley to Adela and Slayyyter, and make the case for who I think deserves the win. Plus, a few very strong opinions on who absolutely does not. Then it’s time for Songs of the Week, featuring The Beaches, Jennie, a Brazilian-funk banger from ENHYPEN, and a track from Adela’s Prima. What the Hell Is Going On With KATSEYE?

What the hell is going on with KATSEYE? This week, I’m looking at how one of pop’s most exciting girl groups is being swallowed by algorithm-chasing music, rage-bait lyrics and a label seemingly obsessed with virality over artistic identity — all while members disappear on hiatus and the girls look increasingly exhausted. Plus, I get into whether KATSEYE can build a real legacy beyond internet discourse, and finish with three very electronic Songs of the Week from KiiiKiii, Enjoy Ourselves and Tobi Club. The X-Men Casting Choices Nobody Saw Coming

The MCU’s X-Men are finally taking shape, and Marvel definitely isn’t playing it safe. This week, I’m breaking down the newly revealed cast, from the choices I’m already completely sold on to the ones that have me excited, confused and slightly nervous. I get into the decision to build the team around a younger generation of actors, the very divisive Rogue casting, Adam Driver as Mister Sinister, and whether taking this many risks could actually be exactly what the X-Men need. Plus, I talk about some of the other reveals coming out of D23 before wrapping things up with this week’s Songs of the Week and a few new additions to my August playlist. 🛒 Yarok Plant-Based Beauty - Vegan Hair Care 💰 Get 15% OFF | Promo Code: OVERSHAREPAMPHLET https://promocode.to/yarok-plant-based-beauty/oversharepamphlet-j4k You can follow me on Instagram and Threads @robscal.jpg, on TikTok @robscal.com and on Twitter @robscaltweets
