S3 E39 | The Best Plugs For Fishing Outflows & Breachways

In this week's episode, the guys revisit the popular 4-Plug topic, this time tackling breachways and outflows. The rules are simple: each angler can choose only four plugs, and specific lures must be identified where applicable by brand, size, and weight. Conditions and time of day cannot factor into the selections, color is not required, there is an infinite supply of lures (magically replaced if lost), and bait doesn't count. So, what did the guys choose, and how would their selections differ from yours? Did they overlook a blatantly obvious choice? Give it a listen, then let us know what four plugs you'd take! S3 E37 | Extreme Surfcasting with Calvin Toran Sandlin

This week, the guys sit down with Calvin Toran-Sandlin to discuss one of the most extreme subcultures of surfcasting. While many anglers don a wetsuit in pursuit of striped bass, very few take it to the next level by strapping on fins and swimming—sometimes several hundred yards—out into the surf at night to fish isolated reefs and rockpiles. But that's exactly what Calvin does! In addition to discussing the gear, conditions, and techniques that make this style of fishing possible, the guys explore how Calvin's extreme dedication gives him an advantage over his fellow surfcasters. Of course, there's also the giant elephant in the room: SHARKS! From great whites to brown sharks, Calvin shares some of his encounters with these apex predators and explains how he deals with them, both mentally and physically. S3 E33 | The Gang Talks Spots

You asked, and we delivered. After plenty of listener requests, this week the guys devote an entire episode to one of surfcasting's most talked-about topics: spots. Don't worry—we're not giving away anyone's honey holes. Instead, we dive into two specific aspects of spot selection. First, how do you know when it's time to move on from a dead spot? Second, we explore the idea of the "White Whale" spot—that location that looks absolutely perfect on paper, checks every box, and somehow still refuses to produce fish. If you've ever struggled with knowing when to stay, when to go, or you've been haunted by a spot that should hold giants but never seems to, this episode is for you. Oh, and yes—the episode title is an homage to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia! Subscribe to our blog: https://surfcastpodcast.com/category/in-the-wash/ Please visit our sponsors!
