  1. I Am Somebody: Remembering Reverend Jesse Jackson feat. Jamal Bryant

I Am Somebody: Remembering Reverend Jesse Jackson feat. Jamal Bryant

On episode 119 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers team up with guest-host Dr. Reverend Jamal Bryant.    Pastor Bryant held a groundbreaking joint sermon recently with his wife, Karri Bryant, for Valentines day. They cracked jokes and shared their wisdom for how to make a relationship last, which we’ll pass on to you. Then Pastor Bryant holds space for us as we remember another reverend, Jesse Jackson, who passed away Tuesday, February 17th.    FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS:   Early voting sites are being removed from North Carolina Universities, disenfranchising Black students.   The SAVE Act heads to the Senate, the “Voter ID Law” threatens voting rights.    DHS Secretary Kristi Noem says DHS Will Help “Secure” Elections.    The Olympic Village has run out of the 10,000 condoms it supples to athletes.    Five Black surgeons lead the trauma unit at the prestigious Johns Hopkins hospital for the first time.    We dedicate the majority of our show today to Reverend Jesse Jackson. Reverend Jackson had a knack for showing up wherever Black folks were organizing; he showed up for our hosts multiple times to offer his support and mentorship. We’ll hear their personal stories about the reverend and more from his fabled life: Reverend Jackson grew up in poverty before rising through the church to carry on the work of MLK Jr., his mentor. He ran for president in the 80’s (which set the stage for Obama), championed progressive causes that were far ahead of his time, and created broad political alliances that last to this day. His impact cannot be overstated.    If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: http://www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/ and send to @nativelandpod.    We are 263 days away from the midterm elections. America’s Blueprint: Detention, Racism, and Pedos

On episode 118 of Native Land Pod, hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers are joined by guest-host Kevin Ortega-Rojas.    You may know Kevin from his prolific social media presence, breaking news for more than half a million followers. He’s a writer, commentator, and host of HeresWhyKevin.    FOR YOUR SITUATIONAL AWARENESS:   – Megyn Kelly’s Bad Bunny rant on Piers Morgan   – Kid Rock calls JZ was a “DEI Hire”    – DHS and ICE chiefs (refuse to) answer questions at a Congressional Hearing   – Trump’s Tariffs cost American families $1,000+ in 2025   – Congress reviews unredacted Epstein Files and Ghilaine Maxwell testifies.    President Trump brought in Black History Month with the now-infamous “Ape Video,” a clip he posted to Truth Social of the Obamas’ faces superimposed onto apes… The public was understandably outraged but NLP was not surprised, this behavior is nothing new for Trump, America, or Republicans. What never ceases to amaze are the skin folk (not kin folk) who rushed out to defend the president’s heavy-handed racism.    Our hosts close the show by reading letters from the Dilley Immigration Detention Center in Texas, where young children are being held.    Vote for NLP at the NAACP Image Awards: https://vote.naacpimageawards.net/categories/c1b34c1a-5f52-4d43-a442-08de2c5a3e90/entrants   Read ProPublica’s ICE Detention Article: https://www.propublica.org/article/ice-dilley-children-letters   Donate to the Minnesota Freedom Fund: https://mnfreedomfund.org/donate/   Donate to Neighbors Loving Neighbors: https://nhn-tc.org/   The 6 Men Rep. Why this Conservative Evangelical Pastor Changed Sides | NLP Replay

What role have white evangelicals played in the current struggle against fascism? Once a political actor tasked with influencing SCOTUS to overturn Roe v. Wade, Reverend Schenck has since come to regret his involvement with the religious right, which he describes as a “cult.” He now calls himself a “dissenting Evangelical organizer.” Our hosts ask the reverend what brought him around.    Join hosts Angela Rye, Andrew Gillum, and Bakari Sellers PLUS guest-host Tamika Mallory for this segment from episode #117 that aired 02-05-26     If you’d like to submit a question, check out our tutorial video: www.instagram.com/reel/C5j_oBXLIg0/   Welcome home y’all!    —--------- We want to hear from you!
