Television After Miami Vice: Bad Monkey and R.J. Decker

BUY ME A COFFEE - THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND SUPPORT Miami Vice changed the way the world saw South Florida. But what happened after Crockett and Tubbs drove off into the sunset? What television shows filled the void and did they have the same impact on the way the world sees South Florda that Miami Vice did?   In this episode of Tales From South Florida, I look at the South Florida television shows that followed Miami Vice and helped create a very different image of Florida. Or did they? And what role does Florida author Carl Hiaasen play in all of this? TV Shows: Flipper and Miami Vice

Buy Me a Coffee to help support the show. Thank you. When Joseph Young named his local parcel of land Hollywood, he was hoping to mirror in South Florida the burgeoning film industry of its Californian namesake. While the aspiration seemed lofty, South Florida did indeed become a cinematic hotspot, especially during the mid to late 20th century. This week, we delve into two iconic television shows that not only showcased the unique allure of South Florida but also left an indelible mark on American culture. Perhaps no two shows had as much impact as a little half-hour drama about a family living in the Keys with a pet dolphin and another about two cops fighting the drug cartels of the 1980's. In this week's episode we look back on these two entertaining yet vastly different takes on our area and lifestyles. It's time to Take a TALK down Memory Lane once more for the Tale of Flipper and Miami Vice. 3.27.24 Send Me a Message Support the show Click the Leave A Message link above to text Bill Monty...FREE! My Top 10 Jimmy Buffett Songs

Please Help SUPPORT the Podcast: BUY ME A COFFEE Jimmy Buffett died September 1, 2023, at age 76, but his legacy is usually intertwined with South Florida and the Keys. He didn't merely write about the Florida lifestyle—he helped create the modern cultural image of Key West for millions of people around the world. His music defines the Florida experience, especially the Florida Keys lifestyle that existed once upon a time, more than any other person to date.  As we remember Florida's adopted troubadour son on the anniversary of his passing, I pay tribute to my 10 favorite songs by Jimmy. But is my list the final word? What are your top ten songs?
