October 1

October 1 But the fruit of the Spirit is… self-control. - Galatians 5:22-23 Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. - 1 Corinthians 9:25-27 Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit. - Ephesians 5:18 If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. - Matthew 16:24 So then let us not sleep, as others do, but let us keep awake and be sober. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, are drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, having put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation. - 1 Thessalonians 5:6-8 Renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ. - Titus 2:12-13 Adapted from “Daily Light”, originally published by Samuel Bagster in 1875. September 30

September 30 He knows the way that I take; when he has tried me, I shall come out as gold. - Job 23:10 He knows our frame… - Psalms 103:14 He does not afflict from his heart or grieve the children of men. - Lamentations 3:33 God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.” Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable, he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work. - 2 Timothy 2:19-21 He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD. - Malachi 3:3 I will put [them] into the fire, and refine them as one refines silver, and test them as gold is tested. They will call upon my name, and I will answer them. I will say, ‘They are my people’; and they will say, ‘The LORD is my God.’” - Zechariah 13:9 Adapted from “Daily Light”, originally published by Samuel Bagster in 1875. This is a public episode.
