The Doctor Who Became the Patient: A Breast Cancer Story | Dr. Hajra

Send us Fan Mail What happens when you go from being the doctor to becoming the patient? In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we sit down with Dr. Hajra, an NHS GP and breast cancer survivor, for an honest and deeply personal conversation about the moment her life changed. At just 37, Dr. Hajra found herself on the other side of medicine after receiving a diagnosis of advanced breast cancer. Suddenly, the person who had spent years caring for others was navigating her own diagnosis, treatment, and the emotional reality of being a patient. In this episode, we explore her journey beyond the diagnosis — from the challenges of losing her identity as a doctor to navigating life after cancer, rediscovering herself, and finding joy in the little things again. It’s a conversation about resilience, vulnerability, perspective, and the parts of a cancer journey that aren’t always spoken about. Because sometimes, the most powerful stories in medicine come from those who have experienced both sides of it. 🎀 A special episode for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Important Clarification 🎗️ We would like to clarify an important detail from our conversation with Dr. Hajra. During the episode, we mentioned that Dr. Hajra had been diagnosed with the most advanced form of breast cancer. To ensure accuracy, we would like to clarify that she had one of the most aggressive forms of breast cancer, not the most advanced stage. While these terms may sound similar, there is an important distinction: Aggressive refers to how quickly cancer may grow or spread, while advanced describes how far it has spread in the body. Stage IV breast cancer, for example, means the cancer has spread to distant organs. In Dr. Hajra’s case, the cancer had spread to nearby areas but not to distant organs. We believe this distinction is important for promoting accurate awareness and a better understanding of breast cancer. We sincerely thank Dr. Hajra for sharing her journey so openly and helping us communicate her story with clarity and accuracy. 💗 The content provided in this podcast is for informational purposes only and is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.  The hosts provide medical advice, and any health-related discussions for general informational purposes. Before You Go to the Pharmacy… Know This!

Send us Fan Mail Ever walked into a pharmacy and wondered what you should bring, what information the pharmacist actually needs, or whether they can help you without you seeing a GP first? In this episode , we’re having a good old chat about the things that are useful to know before you see a pharmacist. We talk about what to bring with you, from your medication list and relevant medical information to photos, packaging and details about your symptoms  and why sometimes the smallest piece of information can completely change the advice we give. We also break down some of the services you may be able to access through your community pharmacy, including consultations for common conditions, contraception, vaccinations, blood pressure checks and other services that people often don’t realise are available. Plus, we chat about what pharmacists can and can’t do, why we sometimes ask what feels like a million questions, when we may need to refer you elsewhere, and how you can get the most out of your consultation. Whether you regularly visit your pharmacy or only pop in when something goes wrong, this episode should leave you feeling much more prepared for your next trip to the consultation room.
