Help! Hormones, Belly Fat & WTF Is Happening to my Body? featuring Dr. Christina Enzmann

Send us Fan Mail If you have ever looked in the mirror and wondered, What is happening to my body?—you are definitely not alone. In this episode of Unapologetic Living, Elizabeth sits down with Dr. Christina Enzmann for an honest and informative conversation about perimenopause, changing hormones, weight gain, body composition, and the many unexpected changes women may experience during midlife. Dr. Enzmann explains why the approaches that worked for us in our twenties and thirties may no longer work the same way during perimenopause. We discuss how hormonal changes can affect metabolism, sleep, energy, mood, appetite, and where the body stores fat. In this episode, we discuss: What perimenopause is and when it can beginWhy many women gain weight during midlifeChanges in metabolism and body compositionThe connection between hormones, sleep, stress, and weightWhy old diet and exercise strategies may stop workingThe importance of strength training and maintaining muscleHow nutrition can support the body during perimenopauseHormone therapy and other possible treatment optionsWhy women deserve better information about this stage of lifeHow to work with your changing body instead of constantly fighting itAbout Dr. Christina Enzmann Dr. Christina Enzmann, MD, PhD, is a board-certified gynecologist, a certified menopause practitioner through The Menopause Society, and a physician trained in functional medicine and nutritional endocrinology. How Sex Ed Failed Us: The Body Literacy We Were Never Taught with Chanana McGarry

Send us Fan Mail How Sex Ed Failed Us: The Body Literacy We Were Never Taught A Conversation with Chanana McGarry of Womb Literacy How much do you really know about your own cycle? WATCH HERE:  SEX ED FAILED YOU: 3 Things 9 out of 10 Women Wish Someone Had Told Them Sooner For many of us, sex education barely scratched the surface. We learned about periods, pregnancy, and birth control—but very little about how to actually understand and interpret the signals of our own bodies. In this episode of Unapologetic Living, I sit down with Chanana McGarry, Fertility Awareness Educator and founder of Womb Literacy, to talk about the education so many of us never received. We explore: • What traditional sex education left out • What “womb literacy” and body literacy actually mean • Understanding ovulation and the menstrual cycle • Cervical fluid and basal body temperature as fertility signs • Fertility awareness vs. period-tracking apps • Hormonal and non-hormonal birth control • The menstrual cycle as a window into overall health • Becoming a more informed advocate for your own body • Reconnecting with and understanding the signals of the female body This conversation is ultimately about knowledge, curiosity, informed choice, and developing a deeper relationship with the body you live in every day. Maybe sex ed failed us—but it’s never too late to learn what we should have been taught. Birth Without Fear: Questioning the Modern Maternity System, Your Body. Your Baby. featuring Dr. Stuart Fischbein

Send us Fan Mail In this episode of Unapologetic Living, I sit down with obstetrician Dr. Stuart “Stu” Fischbein for a thought-provoking conversation about pregnancy, birth, informed consent, and a woman's right to be an active participant in decisions about her own body. Dr. Stu spent 28 years attending hospital births before moving into home-birth obstetrics and working collaboratively with midwives. Today, he teaches and speaks internationally about physiological birth, breech and twin birth skills, informed consent, and the importance of preserving options for women and families.  We talk about how fear can shape pregnancy and birth, why interventions have become so common, and what may be lost when protocols begin replacing individualized care. We also explore the difference between being informed and simply being told what to do—and why women should feel empowered to ask questions, understand risks and benefits, seek another opinion, and make decisions that align with their own values. Stuart James Fischbein MD is a community-based obstetrician and an Associate of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecology, published author of the book “Fearless Pregnancy, Wisdom & Reassurance from a Doctor, A Midwife and A Mom” and peer-reviewed papers Homebirth with an Obstetrician, A Series of 135 Out of Hospital Births, Breech birth at home: outcomes of 60 breech and 109 cephalic planned home and birth center births and Twin home birth: Outcomes of 100 sets of twins in the care of a single practitioner. After completing his residency at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, CA, Dr. Stu, as he is known, spent 24 years assisting women with hospital birthing and, for the next 12+ years, was a homebirth obstetrician who worked directly with midwives assisting local Southern California families. Since retiring from attending home births in late 2022, Dr. Stu has turned his focus to traveling around the world as a lecturer and advocate for reteaching breech & twin birth skills, respect for the normalcy of birth and honoring informed consent. He hosts the weekly Birthing Instincts Podcast with co-host Blyss Young and together they offer hope, reassurance and safe, honest evidence supported choices for those women who understand pregnancy is a normal bodily function not to be feared.  Follow him on Instagram @birthinginstincts. You Can't Love & Light Your Shadow Away A Conversation with Buddha Betty

Send us Fan Mail What if becoming more whole isn’t about getting rid of the darker parts of ourselves—but learning to understand and embrace them? In this episode of Unapologetic Living, I sit down with Betty Guadagno, aka Buddha Betty, for a raw and fascinating conversation about the shadow side—the parts of ourselves we may hide, judge, avoid, or wish weren’t there. Betty’s own story is one of profound transformation. After years of addiction, loss, trauma, and hitting rock bottom, a life-changing spiritual experience sent her down an entirely different path. Today, she is a transformation coach, spiritual guide, co-founder of The Wheel: Transformation in Motion, and someone who isn’t afraid to explore the messy, uncomfortable parts of being human. We talk about what shadow work actually means, why “love and light” isn’t always enough, the beliefs and patterns we carry with us, and what can happen when we stop running from the pieces of ourselves we don’t particularly like. Because maybe living unapologetically isn't about becoming some perfectly healed version of ourselves. Maybe it's about learning to own all of who we are—the light, the dark, and everything in between. If you've ever wondered why the same patterns keep showing up in your life—or felt like there are parts of yourself you'd rather not look at—this conversation is for you. What Are You Really Hungry For? It's Not Really About the Food featuring Stephanie Mara Fox

Send us Fan Mail What if your struggles with food aren’t really about food at all? In this episode, I sit down with Stephanie Mara Fox, Somatic Nutritional Counselor and creator of Somatic Eating®, for a fascinating conversation about our relationship with food, our bodies, and our nervous systems. We talk about why emotional eating, overeating, restricting, cravings, and other food behaviors may be communicating something deeper—and why simply trying harder, following another diet, or relying on willpower often misses the bigger picture. Stephanie shares how learning to listen to the body can help us better understand what we’re truly hungry for, both physically and emotionally. We dive into: The connection between food and the nervous systemWhy our eating patterns can be a form of communication from the bodyEmotional hunger vs. physical hungerWhy we sometimes use food to create comfort, safety, or regulationHow past experiences and trauma can influence our relationship with foodMoving away from shame and judgment around eatingLearning to recognize hunger, fullness, cravings, sensations, and other signals from the bodyWhat it means to feel safe and at home in your bodyUsing curiosity instead of criticism when looking at our food choicesCreating a healthier, more compassionate relationship with food—and ultimately with ourselvesThis conversation is a beautiful reminder that healing our relationship with food isn't necessarily about gaining more control. Sometimes it's about slowing down, listening inward, and understanding what our bodies have been trying to tell us all along. What Modern Birth Gets Wrong & How To Show Up as a Father featuring Travis Stroud

Send us Fan Mail In this conversation, Travis and I continue to dig into what modern birth gets wrong.  We dive into how the culture at large has created a medical diagnosis and procedure out of a natural physiological process, how so many of the interventions used in the hospital are the exact cause of so many negative labor and delivery outomes, and how to educate yourself so that you can have an empowering experience.   Travis is known as the doula.dude on Instagram! He and his wife had a freebirth and he now shares his insight and wisdom to other men and women on how we have been duped on birth, how to navigate your way through the medical model of what we know pregnancy and birth today and how to support women through pregnancy and birthing (whether at home or in a hospital).  Get Patched!  Start Breathing & Find Your Flow!  Join the Unapologetic Living: Inner Circle Unapologetic Living is independently produced, and all podcast expenses currently come out of my own pocket.  Your subscription helps support the show and allows me to continue bringing you meaningful, honest conversations. I Thought I Already Healed This featuring Dr. Leslie B. Newman

Send us Fan Mail What happens when an old wound, fear, grief, or pattern suddenly shows up again—and you find yourself thinking, Wait, I thought I already healed this? In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Leslie B. Newman, positive psychology expert, author, speaker, and longtime student of mindfulness and holistic well-being. We talk about why personal growth isn't a straight line and explore Leslie's concept of The Spiral Path—the idea that returning to an old struggle doesn't necessarily mean we're moving backward. Sometimes we're meeting the same experience from a completely different place, with more awareness, wisdom, compassion, and choice. We dive into self-trust, mindfulness, emotional intelligence, inner guidance, limiting beliefs, and the small shifts that can change the way we respond to life's challenges. We also explore what it means to stop judging ourselves for where we "should" be and instead recognize the growth that has already taken place. This conversation is a beautiful reminder that you don't have to have everything figured out to be growing. Sometimes the path brings us back around so we can see just how far we've come.
