    It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E10 - 'A Lovely Cat' (Films of 1997)

We're back in the dusty seats of the local flea-pit cinema to talk about the films of 1997 this time on the podcast. There was some serious box office cash spent this year and we cover some of the biggest smashes in cinema history. We're joined by brother of the pod Adam to pick two films each to talk about, plus we've all watched Spice World for the first time ever! And of course, we'll break down the box-office top 10 and the award winners. Tune in to find out which film Alex only realised was an all-time classic only after a rewatch in his late 30s, which threequel does Stu think is somewhat overlooked and which film was the first 15 certificate film Adam saw in the cinema. And what did we all think of the plot of Spice World? Also this time: 90s tennis players! 90s exhibition visits! A potential challenger to the role of official diarist of the pod! And much, much more... It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E9 - 'Dripping through the table like the Xenomorph's blood in Alien' (5th Birthday Special)

Five years, eh?! Who would have thought that a tinpot project that started way back in June 2021 would have come this far. That is to say, a tinpot project which has somehow now produced over a hundred episodes? Join us as we celebrate this significant milestone for the podcast! In a shocking turn of events, just as we had finished putting up the streamers and balloons, the podcast accidentally broke through to the mainstream through an Instagram reel of us discussing mixtapes and BBC2 idents, generating a high level of (mostly positive) interest from new listeners to the pod (we hope). How will the lads handle their new found fame? More to the point, how will Geoff monetise it? If only he was around somewhere so that he could be asked that question. Once the party begins in earnest, we swap gifts before taking on an extended quiz, then answer some listener questions in our first ever 'Ask Us Anything' . There's far too much Aston Villa/Norwich City content in the end, but it's our birthday so you'll have to let us off. Also this time: Hungry Joes! Culture Club redux! Bees in goalmouth redux! And much, much more... Thank you for all your support over the past five years, we make the show for you and we really do appreciate it. Keep listening, keep in touch and here's to the next five! If you'd like to hear more from us, be sure to like and subscribe, and share your thoughts with us on all our social media channels, found here on our LINKTREE. It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E8 - ‘Good Wessex Eggs’ (BBC’s Driving School watch-along)

Some people accuse us of scraping the barrel when it comes to episode content, but the more discerning podcast consumers recognise us for what we really are: archaeologists of 90s social history, performing a vital service in the world of nostalgia. That said, this episode we’re talking about the BBC fly on the fall documentary, Driving School. Excitingly, this is our first ever FULLY VISUAL episode of the pod, so we urge you to watch along wherever the visual version is available. Join us as we watch along with the very first episode, from 1997. There’ll be debate on whether Maureen was truly the first ever reality TV star in the UK, loads of 90s car spotting, and far too much time spent looking up old number plates on the DVLA database, Also this time: Stu’s Cubs drama! Another quiz! Delayed correspondence! And much, much more... If you’re in the UK you can watch the episode of Driving School on the iPlayer HERE, or if you’re outside of the UK, watch it HERE. If You Have To Ask what this episode is about, then you'll never know...don't turn over to the Otherside, because this time on IBAITN, and much to Stu's excitement, we're finally Road Trippin' (OK, that's enough of that) through the history of one of the biggest rock bands of the 90s, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Join us as we look at each classic 90s RHCP album in turn, examining the highs and lows of their decade including more on the John Frusciante redemption arc, the cursed One Hot Minute tour, and the Californication-era gigs with Stu's dream line-up of bands. Plus, your hosts rank their top three Chilis tracks from the era. Also this time: Rich meats and cheeses! A 90s care package from the non-league footballer of the pod! The most 90s stationery! And much, much more... You can watch 'Off the Map' here, and the doomed Fuji Rock set here. It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E6 - 'A decent, upright posture' (Nostalgic 90s Sounds)

Listen up! This time we're talking about one of the purest sources of nostalgia there is - sound and TV theme tunes. It turns out there really is a wealth of 90s nostalgia in the world of audio. We've each picked 5 sounds and 3 TV theme-tunes to discuss, so tune in to find out which of Stu's choices was the subject of extensive online detective work, which form of physical media did both Stu and Alex reference, which slice of sports-based audio can Stu quote along to in real time, and which TV theme tunes almost paralyse Alex with nostalgia... It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E5 - 'Some bloke with a double barrelled shotgun shoots a couple of holes in the footwell' (Our Favourite VHS Tapes and CD Singles)

If there's one thing that everyone at IBAITN Towers can agree on, it's that the halcyon days of collecting physical media really were the best of times, which the streaming media of today simply cannot replace. To that end, we've decided to spend some time reminiscing about our own personal favourite VHS tapes and CD singles from the decade. We've each picked one VHS and single each to discuss, so tune in to find out which video cassette Alex was given by a famous (and unnamed) neighbour to make up his collection of one (1) VHS, which phrases from the original and best football bloopers tape are still used by Stu today when he needs a haircut, and which obscure CD singles the chaps have chosen to highlight as their favourites of the 90s, one of which already has a place in podcast lore... Also this time: 90s web addresses! Dream Phone! The most 90s computer accessory! And much, much more... You can watch Jeremy Clarkson Unleashed on Cars here, and Own Goals and Gaffs here. It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E4 - 'There was no way Stiltskin survived that night' (90s Time Capsule, with Peter Lawlor)

It's time for another 90s Time Capsule episode on the pod, and this time we're welcoming back original member of Stiltskin, production company CEO and musician Peter Lawlor. As usual we allow our guest to pick a selection of things they'd like to bring back from the 90s, plus one thing they'd rather leave in the past. Tune in to find out which British comedy Peter is convinced by Stu and Alex to switch for an alternative, which live music-based programming Peter watched alongside someone who had appeared live on that show earlier that very day, and why Michael Carrick has rendered one of Peter's choices redundant. Also, Peter shares a world exclusive scoop on the implosion of Stiltskin! Also this time: Juice-drink rivalry! The most 90s cosmetics! Your correspondence! And much, much more... It'll Be Alright In The Nineties - S5 E3 - 'Chocolate, Deodorant and Persistence' (Romance in the 90s with Teresa Stenson)

We feel it in our fingers, we feel it in our toes...yes, it's Valentine's Day at IBAITN Towers (or at least it was - nearly - when this episode was recorded), and who better to help us examine romance in the 90s than our very good friend and official teenage diarist of the pod, Teresa Stenson? The pod lawyers have been all over this one and plenty of names have been redacted to protect the innocent, so tune in as we discuss the iconic couples, cultural moments and romantic gestures of the 90s, while Teresa gives us a world exclusive of some 'affecting' teenage poetry, Stu reveals his bigamist past, and a Take That episode gets planned for recording while Alex is on holiday... Also this time: Catalogue shopping! The aftermath of the Valentine's Disco! Tributes! The most 90s cheese! And much, much more... For more from Teresa, you can sign up to her Teenage Diaries Substack here and buy her excellent zines here. You can watch the very best of Murray Walker (and, we suppose, Martin Brundle) on Formula 1 '97 for PS1 here.
