    D.A.R.E. to say no

Tune into this episode where Adam shares a harrowing tale of just one of the many loved ones lost to use and mental illness and discusses the impact that recreational use can have on developing and developed minds. When I worked at a nursing home the line cook Nick noticed the warning sings of addiction in me and told me the parable of chasing the dragon, a concept known amongst users that keeps them trapped in a loop of use by attempting to recreated the unobtainable change in state of consciousness that occurred the first time they used. This information was later the key I needed in order to step back from my addictive habits and perceive them in a different context and I hope this knowledge brings you some semblance of peace of mind as well. In today's world the negative affects of addiction stems from far more than just recreational use of substances for example excessive internet usage or gaming can mimic the consequences and signs of substance use. If you notice the warning signs of addiction in a loved one have the important conversations with them today so you can still have them tomorrow. Better conversations will come in time. If true addiction is present it may be difficult and you may not feel like you're helping but little by little you can show them that another world is still possible, step by step, day by day. I pepper in levity because of the inherent weight of the subject matter at hand but please do not let it distract from the seriousness of the topic at hand. PAX Recorded June 13th, 2025
