F1 Is Ready For Their Taylor Swift Moment

Formula 1 has broken into Hollywood in a huge way. F1 the movie was a partnership like we'd never seen before, bringing Lewis Hamilton, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Brad Pitt together for what would ultimately become the highest grossing sports movie in history, and an Oscar winning film. But Formula 1 has quietly been building a television and film strategy for years.  Starting in 2017, when Liberty Media first acquired F1, the team looked for new ways to bring a different audience into the sport, expanding hopefully into the US, where the sport had never been as popular as NASCAR or IndyCar. That led to the creation of Drive To Survive, a docuseries with reality TV flare that was so successful, we've seen a ton of sports attempt to copy it, including Tennis, Rugby, Golf, and the NHL.  When F1 the movie brought in scripted TV, F1 as a sport also expanded their plan. F1: The Academy, a docuseries in the vein of Drive To Survive, this time focused on the all-female development series. A comedic, driver focused series hosted by Amelia Dimoldenberg of Chicken Shop Date. And, still in development, officially sanctioned scripted TV projects. As we see the rise of sports fiction, like Heated Rivalry and Challengers, and pop culture / sports crossovers, like Taylor Swift, Hailee Steinfeld, and the NFL, bring new fans to sports, it seems like Formula 1 is way ahead of the curve with original programming.  Join The Grid Chat: https://tandonproductions.com/gridchat/ If you have any questions find me on:  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/marissakumari/ Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@marissakumari Threads: https://www.threads.net/@marissakumari YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@marissakumari  For more podcasts like this, check out all that Tandon Productions has to offer. Kimi Antonelli Wins China & F1 Wins an Oscar!

F1 headed to China this weekend, bringing us our first sprint race weekend of the season, two race cancellations for April, and Kimi Antonelli's first Grand Prix victory. Off track, Esteban Ocon released his pre-race playlist, and F1 the Movie took home an Academy Award. And, F1 Academy returned to the grid for their season start.  New regulations continue to cause reliability issues, with only 15 out of 22 cars crossing the finish line. McLaren didn't start the race, Williams and Aston Martin continue to have problems, and Max Verstappen was forced to retire the car.  For our main story, we're breaking down the inherent issue in having two championships: one team championship in the Constructors Championship, and one individual fight in the World Driver's Championship. As we saw with Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc, battling between teammates is to be expected, but it also opens the team up to losing points in Constructors. And, as Kimi Antonelli becomes more competitive, we may see the same kind of on track behavior pick up at Mercedes.  Buckle up as we break down the Chinese Grand Prix! F1 Brings Mario Kart Mode To Australian Grand Prix

F1's new season has been all about change. New regulations, new drivers, and in the US, a new home for Formula 1. Apple TV has been met with mixed reviews, bonus content, and one big playlist from Ollie Bearman. Regulation changes brought reliability issues for multiple teams, with a shock crash from Max Verstappen and early retirement for Isack Hadjar, as well as a tough crash from hometown hero, Oscar Piastri. Arvid Lindblad, youngest addition to the grid, showed a strong debut, and Kimi Antonelli made a huge comeback.  For our main story, we're breaking down whether these regulations are actually good for the sport. With Mercedes taking the early edge, George Russell is an early favorite for World Drivers Champion. But, with a looming deadline from the FIA to change their power unit, they may not have the ability to run away with things. And, now that we've finally seen the regulation changes in action, boost and overtake mode are bringing a Mario Kart energy to the grid.  Buckle up as we break down the Australian Grand Prix! Drive To Survive Kinda Sucks Now: F1 Preview & Review

Formula 1 is finally back in Australia! Ahead of the season, we got a glimpse into how the new regulations are changing, and how teams are handling them. Cadillac enters the grid (slowly) with two well loved drivers in Checo Perez and Valtteri Bottas, but even behind them is the $200M+ Adrian Newey project at Aston Martin. Despite a huge investment and dream team, the car isn't fit to race ahead of the season opener. Plus, Red Bull brings in new seat changes in Arvid Lindblad and Isack Hadjar, which might pay off with the regulation changes.  For our main story, we're reviewing Drive To Survive's most recent season. We'll talk about how the show has changed the DNA of Formula 1 and it's fanbase, how it's been good for the sport, and whether it has lost its spark. With a lackluster, shorter season, the show failed to find a real point of view or new hero, and has struggled since the departure of Daniel Ricciardo. Lando Norris Sails to Victory: F1 Mexico City Recap

As the championship conversation has shifted to Oscar Piastri vs Max Verstappen, Lando Norris brought out a stunning performance in Mexico City to remind everyone he is still a factor: and now, he's the championship leader. For everyone else, the weekend was far from perfect. Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc had impressive qualifying performance, hitting at a possible turn for Ferrari's luck. But, a controversial 10 second time penalty destroyed Lewis Hamilton's hopes for his first podium in red. Carlos Sainz struggled with car issues, and triggered a VSC that brought an exciting final stint of the race to an awkward halt. Plus, Max Verstappen's incredible one stop strategy, trouble over Mercedes radio between George Russell and Kimi Antonelli, and Ollie Bearman's incredible P4 finish. Max Verstappen Hunts 5th WDC Title: F1 COTA Recap

After a season of cryptic messages and focus on fairness, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris have been fighting for their first World Drivers Championship title. But, with sticky moves and team orders, they've opened the door for Max Verstappen to take his 5th title in a row. Entering the weekend with an over 60 point gap, Max took both the sprint and the race win, and after a double DNF from the McLarens during the sprint, closes that gap to 40 points with 5 race weekends left in the season. Plus, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc improve at Ferrari, despite rumors of Christian Horner looking to make a move and replace Fred Vasseur. George Russell and Kimi Antonelli re-up at Mercedes, and the battle for the Red Bull seats intensifies between Yuki Tsunoda and Liam Lawson. And, of course, the Apple TV F1 rights deal.
