Pain and Fitness: Your Program Should Work for You, Not Against You

What do you do when exercise hurts? Do you stop? Push through it? Avoid certain movements altogether? Or can your fitness program actually be designed to work with your body instead of against it? In this episode of Live Healthy Louisville, Ryan and Scott dive into the relationship between pain, mobility, stability, strength, and exercise—and why there is no one-size-fits-all approach to fitness. One of the most important principles of training is simple: Your body adapts to the stimulus you give it. The question is whether you’re giving it the right stimulus for where you are today. Ryan and Scott discuss why a great fitness program should meet you exactly where you are, account for your individual movement, history, abilities, goals, and limitations, and then progressively help you move better and become stronger. They also explain how they put this philosophy into practice at RxD through Lifestyle Integrative Fitness Training (LIFT)—an individualized approach designed to help people find the right starting point and build from there. Because modifying an exercise isn’t failing. Working around a limitation isn’t giving up. And having pain doesn’t necessarily mean your fitness journey has to stop. The goal is to find a way forward that works for YOU. If you’ve struggled with aches and pains, felt like traditional workouts weren’t designed for you, or simply want to understand how to train smarter for the long term, this episode is for you. 🎙️ Live Healthy Louisville Meet yourself where you are. Build from there. Keep moving forward.

You’re Losing Weight—but Are You Losing Muscle?

What if the number on the scale is going down—but some of the weight you’re losing is the exact weight you want to keep? In this episode of Live Healthy Louisville, Ryan, Matt, and Scott tackle an overlooked part of the weight-loss conversation: protecting lean muscle. Losing weight and losing body fat aren’t necessarily the same thing. During significant weight loss—including weight loss supported by GLP-1 medications—lean mass can also be lost. And as we get older, maintaining muscle becomes increasingly important for strength, function, metabolism, independence, and our ability to keep doing the things we love. The guys break down why resistance training matters during weight loss, why the scale can’t tell you everything about your progress, and why the goal shouldn’t simply be to become lighter—it should be to improve your body composition while protecting your strength and capability. They also introduce RxD’s 4-Week Muscle Protection Program, designed around customized resistance training, coaching, and accountability for adults who want to protect or build strength while working toward their weight-loss goals. If you’re over 40, currently losing a significant amount of weight, or using a GLP-1 medication as part of a clinician-guided weight-management plan, this is a conversation worth hearing. Because what you lose matters. 🎙️ Listen to the full episode and learn more at livehealthylouisville.com
